Yep your right.

People forget a while ago you had likes of Leigh, Northwich or farnborough in conf Nat level at the time running in budgets for couple of hundred fans

Northwich always had over 1,000 gates until that Rushe crook took over and ruined them.

Moving from Drill Field killed that club, they were easily one of the biggest true non league clubs going for many many years but Jim Rushe (who ended up doing porridge for associating with a Runcorn drug racket) accelerated their unfortunate decline.

Very unlikely they'll ever play in Northwich again unless it's at Witton Albion's ground...

Their ground on the same industrial site as Witton was a decent ground. When we played them on Boxing Day about 7 years ago that game attracted a crowd of around 4,000 iirc,

Sadly, one portion of the stands is now in situ at FC United thanks to some problems with the landlords of the site.

Northwich Vics got 900-1,100 for the few years before leaving Drill Field, according to this

Rushe didn't take over for another 5 years, though

Hi All - We've got Blyth at home on Saturday - What sort of team are they like? Saw they lost their unbeaten run on Saturday but are still midtable.

No they didn’t. There’s a bit of rewriting of history going on here.
They were a leading non league team until about 10 years ago, but were forced out of their ground the Drill Field (oldest ground in country) over debts and by the time they relocated to their new ground they had suffered a double relegation. They never recovered. The money they received for the Drill Field was supposed to pay for the new ground, but they seemed to run out of money and that ground was never completed, although it comfortably staged matches. Rushe was a crook. A group of us Chester fans went to the new stadium and we paid for a meal and entrance and when we got there it was only a buffet. That was the kind of thing he got up to, apart from the thing he did porridge for.

Haven’t seen them this season but their mantra was you score two then we’ll score three and I doubt it’s changed.

Play an attractive style and can definitely cause any defence some problems when firing but will leave gaps at the back.

I've seen them this season they were crap, they shouldn't cause too much trouble on Saturday
We should have beaten them out of sight, had a couple of goals disallowed, also hit the woodwork god know's how many times - An opportunity for Bonne to have a field day.

They've slipped a little bit lately but had some decent form in December.

He's not. Grew up in Northwich and watched them for a number of years and in the glory days of competing in the national leagues, gates were always around 1000. Even in the Northern Premier League, gates of around 500 would turn up because they played some excellent football under Andy Preece until it all went wrong with money issues (again). The history of Northwich Victoria from when I watched them would make a fascinating film.

Northwich did eventually move back 'Home', I'm sure they ground share with Winsford United now but the fan base split in half, with half creating a new team called 1874 Northwich and both Northwich Victoria and 1874 now ironically play in the same league at North West Counties level. It's a shame really but there will be no going back for Northwich Victoria.

I think you will find that 1874 Northwich share with Winsford United and that in fact No ethics Vics are back sharing with Witton Albion at Wincham.

Should have played them this week, but they're still in the Trophy (chance to get injured players back). We lost 8-1 at theirs', but we were robbed.

Bloody iPad, Northwich came out No ethics but on reflection it might be more accurate to use that as their name.

Witton didn't want them there (their fans are idiots), but Northwich Vics threatened them with a lawsuit or something and Witton (a well-run club) didn't want the hassle so allowed them in.

Northwich left the Drill Field in 2002 where their last opponents were us. The attendance was 1750, hardly massive.

The attendances for our most recent matches at the Vics:
86/87 - 554
87/88 - 1483 (probably due to large away following by us as we were top of the league and this fixture was in April)
88/89 - 625
89/90 - 703
90/91 - 819
2001/02 - 1750 (last ever match at the Drill Field)
02/03 - 523
03/04 - 728
04/05 - 1552 (I went to this match, which was held at Wincham Park and Barnet fans comprised 2/3rds of the crowd)

Whose fans are idiots, Vics or Witton Albion's? It's not entirely clear!
Wincham Park is a very poor ground IMO, one of those characterless early 90s newbuilds with shallow terracing, cheapo fixtures and appalling sightlines.

Last nights sums last few seasons in 1 game.First half very good and massive improvement under Watson, enter 2nd half and changes enforced, centre half concussion,Striker Kempster chopped down, couldn’t get a game under Collins but scored 4 in 4 under Watson and McLaughlin in centre mid.York were absolutely appalling in second half against a poor Hereford side. Then Bartlett who in the past been a brilliant keeper made 2 massive cock ups and is looking a shadow of his former self, been at fault for 5 goals in last 4 games.
God can’t wait for this season to finish.

Northwich Vics.

Witton's ground is decent for the level they play at.

I'd agree that it's fine for the level that they currently play at but it was pretty poor for a National League level ground, which is the level they played at for a few seasons in the 90s and the level Northwich were playing at after they left the Drill Field. It reminded me of Kingsmeadow before any improvements to the ground were made by Kingstonian or AFC Wimbledon and I think both were built by the same construction firm.

I don't remember Witton being in the National League.

Think Witton may have spent one season at National League level but was very early 90's.

I think the comments were much directed at Witton's ground as Northwich would have ground-shared with Witton whilst playing in the National League.

Witton Albion were in the Conference between 1991 and 1994!

Not strictly National North...but Leamington progressed to the semi-final of the Birmingham Senior Cup last night, beating West Brom 4-1. Big game for Leamington on Saturday vs Hereford, but pleasing signs for Brakes fans ahead of that game.

And with this forum down we did not get a chance to highlight another away win for Curzon who now have joint best away form alongside Chorley.

And should be best, we flogged a 2 goal lead at Blyth and leaked last minute equalisers at Kiddy and Southport so should have had 7 more away points.

Not sure how it’s being done but we are masters of away football this season, really it is away form that should see us at the top.

Decent chance of a rare home win against us on Saturday despite the fact we are slightly better away from home. You at the game Big Dsve?
