My first ever game was a 0-0 draw v Tranmere on New Year's Day 1992 - probably the only reason I remember it.

There was probably less than half the attendance from yesterday that day!
That was my first visit to Vicarage Road. A crap game and you had David James in goal is all I can remember of it ! The gate was definitely about 7-8,000.

I think I have been five or six times six then. I read yesterday that your win in 1999 was hugely significant to your promotion that season. I can barely remember the game, which just shows how opposing supporters recall matches differently.

Prenton Park is a decent ground and has been spruced up a bit since the new owners took over five years ago. The ground was rebuilt for Championship / (potential) Premier League football in the 1990s and was ridiculously big when we were in non-league. However, there are suggestions a new stadium will be built in the next few years.

Yes we had 2 players sent off in that 99 game!

Won 2-1 though and it started a run of 7 wins in 8 leading to our play off win v Bolton!

Yet again we have managed to 'blow it ' at the 3rd round stage. Thats not to say Pompey are bad, they are well set up, Harness was a real handful and sure they will be challenging for the play offs. Its just that we had home advantage ( like last year at this stage ) and failed to take advantage. We were well off the pace, shocking defending for both goals, and worse than anything makes a massive hole in our budget !!
Wish Pompey all the best and hope you draw a big name in the next round -it hurts.....

Your club hasn't budgeted on progression in the FA Cup has it? Or do you mean extra funds for January etc?

Worst 1st half performance today in 5 years. Even our 2 years in the championship getting dicked most weeks.
Our defence is past it, and we need a clear out.
Good luck cobblers in round 4.

Good game at Bristol Rovers.

Should have won it at the end. Missed far too many chances. Glad we got rid of Clarke-Harris, haven't missed watching him dive to the floor at every touch.

Cba to go to Birmingham for the replay. Will be less there than we took to Bristol.

Extra funds for some loan signings this month. We have cut our wage bill by releasing Clarke to Tranmere and Hunter going on loan to Salford. Our bench on Saturday was lightweight, Midfield needs bolstering with Rossiter out for a long time, cover for Eastham and Souttar in the middle and more fire power up front - any suggestions ??

Go for Jon Obika up top, currently at St Mirren. An absolute demon doing stepovers. :)

Our win against Hartlepool means we have now beaten teams from 6 different leagues this season.

Did alright last night, but same old story from earlier on in the season. Can't score when dominating - we were the better side for the first half and needed to score, but weren't really in it in the second. Having said that, West Ham played more or less a full side and we dealt with it well in the main, just switched off at the back post to allow Zabaleta to score with a reasonably poor effort that Bonham should've done better with, and then the second comes when we're playing 5 up front so I'm not overly concerned about that.

Still think the play-offs are a realistic target, but we MUST sign effective forwards in the window. Failure to do so would be a great opportunity lost in my opinion.

We can still achieve this, having beaten Carlisle, Wrexham and Boston in cup ties. Just need to finish the job v Newcastle (possible), beat your lost in R4 (unlikely, but you never know) then get a thoroughly shit Championship outfit in R5 (Hull will do). :)

Well quite an incentive for Tranmere!

And Shrewsbury.

Birmingham potentially away from home in their own ground!

You'll have to beat us as well as Newcastle before getting a shit Championship outfit. :)

Only one flaw in that plan, can't quite put my finger on what it is.............

Loving the idea of Birmingham taking on Coventry as the away side in their own ground.

I think the same thing happened with Charlton and Wimbledon at Selhurst Park, back in the day.

Prenton Park looks like a pretty tidy ground tbf!

The ground itself is pretty good and has improved since Mr Palios and his wife took control of the club. The hospitality areas in particular has been hugely upgraded and of course there is the now famous Fan Zone which is basically a large tent on the car park run by the Trust with all the profits going into the club. Good beer and great friendly football banter guaranteed. Pity the same can`t be said about the pitch. Have you heard of the new film 1917 ? Well I swear parts on it were filmed on our pitch which looks like it has had tanks drag racing on it. That`s what happens when it is used for womans football by a club other than your own. It wasn`t that good in the first place but it was totally destroyed during one of their games against Chelsea and it has got to be the worse in senior football. Chelsea`s coach complained about it at the time and we laughed it off but most of us were shocked to see the state of it at the next game. There are parts of it that has no grass whatsoever on it. It really is an embarrassing mud pile tbh and unfortunately due to the amount of games scheduled to be played on it theres not a lot the club can do to repair it especially given that we do not have a full time groundsman since the previous one retired during last season

We had Saracens rugby for years so know about how bad a pitch can get!

We eventually got a deso plastic pitch with 3% artificial grass but probably not cheap to purchase.

The Pozzos have definitely done good things for the ground - filled in the corners, new stand etc.

Shame our replay isn't on TV but then guess our Reserves and kids don't have the same pulling power as the ones from Man U and Spurs for the neutral.

Yet again, the bigger clubs that don't need the TV money get chosen. :dis:

Agreed. Should have been Tranmere v Watford.
Tottenham v Middlesbrough is an incredibly mundane choice.

It seems the viewing public would rather watch Son and Ali in a training session than a lower league v top flight clash, which shows how the game has gone wrong.

Gary Lineker probably choose the Spurs game as it's on the BBC!

Don't have to do a lot of research for it either ..like RLC says it's easy to talk about Ali , Son and Jose.

Kane will probably be in the studio.

They probably knew we might play a 2nd string again.

And it's London with a ready made studio.

It's sort of incredulous to think that they'd overlook a league one club, who came from 3-0 down, against a Premier league club in favour of Spurs v Boro. I say sort of because I believe every Man United FA Cup game going back a decade has been on TV and more people will presumably watch Spurs than our tie. For any genuine football fans (i.e. us lot on here!), that's incredibly sad. Are we out of touch with the rest of the world or are they out of touch with us? Screw them all I say!

I think they had one not on last season but you are right.

BBC aren't supposed to be in it for ratings but they clearly are.

The Beeb pay lip service to 'magic/romance of the cup' but as soon as the big boys come in, that's all they're interested in. Other than MotD that's all they get to screen as far as 'big' matches are concerned so they go for it. But, yeah, disappointing for Tranny and other more interesting teams/ties. They now have home advantage over Watford - just beat them!

Super horns - seem to remember ManU failed to be on TV last season for a FAC game as there'd been such an outcry about them being selected the season before instead of a non/lower league team who'd had a great run. Their absence didn't last long though :-(

Probably at home to a Championship side but once they either get another Premier league side or away tie Man U will always get on I guess..

We will need mud boots Tuesday - not football ones!

I have just been past the ground and it has dried out a bit since then. However, heavy rain is forecast for Tuesday afternoon so it could well be off.

Would the replay have to take place on 4th round weekend ? I would guess your game against Villa next week would take precedence over a cup replay ?

Our pitch is a disgrace by the way.
