I've obviously not seen too much of Stockport and I've mentioned this before, albeit perhaps an unfair comparison, but the difference between Stockport and Notts last season when they played each other was quite stark given both managers took over at similar times.

It looked like Rusk was trying to implement U23 type football and it looked very rigid and precise whereas Notts looked really well coached in that game.

That game on BT was Ardley vs Gannon!

Does Gannon not like it when other people manage Stockport?

Can't see Appleton dropping down, he's one of the better managers in L1 and seems like he has ambitions to go higher.
Given the way Wilson shat on him and the club made a low dig about sacking him for 'cultural reasons', when he was talking about the big egos Wilson had signed not buying into the club culture, I think he would do what a good mate does and tell Wild to run a mile away from this job.

Wild and Gannon seem very similar from what the Halifax fans have said on here in style, no way would he want to work with Wilson telling him who he can and can't sign.

I have no confidence in us getting the next appointment right with Wilson still pulling the strings. Just like the players we've signed, he will be like a kid in a sweet shop with Stott's money and go for some big name with no experience at lower league/non league football as a reaction to getting a no-mark youth coach in.

I agree with your Rusk assessment, not as sold on Notts' coach but yeah he's done better than Rusk when you look at the match on Saturday.

Yet we finished higher than them last season and still only 5 points off them with a game in hand this season.

I think the reason for that is we have a better squad tbh. There's none better in this league. I don't even think Wrexham's is yet. Hopefully the new manager proves it.

The rumour is he turned us down like I say.

We do have back to the North West, money and quite a lot ambition to try and tempt him though.

But he's not gone for it. Hartlepool fans will understandably think he's 100% made the right call.
His managerial ambtion has always been to manage in the EFL.
Don,t think he,ll let go of that unless forced to.

If Stockport can afford League 1/2 players then they can afford to get a manager from 1 of those clubs as well
Get him in by Saturday for a nice easy 3 points at Crabble to get things going

Michael Flynn would be my personal choice, but I think he left Newport for similar reasons about a Director of Football?

Well they didn't treat Gannon well so it's more that angle

Doing a good job at Halifax but I don't really warm to him at all.

The guy who left Newport recently also a name mentioned.

Given the way Wilson shat on him and the club made a low dig about sacking him for 'cultural reasons', when he was talking about the big egos Wilson had signed not buying into the club culture, I think he would do what a good mate does and tell Wild to run a mile away from this job.

Fair enough on Gannon, I was a big fan of Gannons v1.0 and v2.0 but I didn't keep up to date with v3.0 so don't really know what went down.

As was discussed in pre-season though, that's probably likely to fail at this level than getting someone in with experience at this level. We've already seen Phil Brown sacked and The Bad Phil Parkinson is on the ropes.

Well given we knew hours before Gannon was sacked that Rusk was to be the new manager, at least this time the fact there are no leaks means Wilson hasn't stitched it up with another one of his cronies.

When they played us he more or less said (post match interview) there is a big time charlie in the squad who needs to alter his attitude
As he didn,t come up to his or Stockport,s level.

I was at the match and thought he was spot on.

Hopefully he's still available when we inevitably sack PP.

Some on our forum look to be worrying about County coming for Alty Phil Parkinson.

I think if this is not sorted then will still have a fragmented squad.

Stockport don’t need to reinvent the wheel here, but with that DoF they’ve got you kind of feel they might try it anyway.

That squad is so stacked that any manager with decent experience of success in this league or League Two will simplify things a bit and have them competing for promotion.

If there is a list, JR must surely be near the top of it. Can Chessie resist two approaches in two weeks?
He can be at the top of the list, means nowt. Why would he take a backwards step to join that basket case?

0 transfer strategy, just a load of mismatch unmotivated ex FL lads that were looking for nice tasty pay day that they’re now stuck with for 2/3 years. JR wouldn’t suit them anyway if Simin Wilson etc are looking for a possession-based, playing out from the back model… he ain’t interested in any of that nonsense at this level. Maybe Burchnalls on this list!!!??

Difficult job for anyone going in there if you ask me.

Just hoping that when we do get a new manager the Gannon haters and the Jim lovers within our fan base judge him (or her) on what he/she does rather wasting their angst on arguing whether he/she is better or worse than Saint Jim/the devil incarnate Gannon (delete as appropriate). So can we please just all move on and accept for better or worse that Jim Gannon will not be coming back because the continuous bickering between the rival factions has been doing mine and other people's heads in for months!

Hopefully on the look out for someone proven at promotion to the football league for our sake.

Extra concerning now that there's a rumour he's applied for it or is on a shortlist at least. Hopefully all just rumours and nothing more.

Wild would be the answer imo
A step down for him. He's got it all going for him here, a free hand in running the club and his foundation work of the past 2 years is now bearing fruit. Not a chance. :ds:
