Battered by Burnley on paper, but fine margins in reality. Will Keane missed an absolute sitter which would have made it 2-2 and one minute later Burnley went up the other end and scored a dubious offside goal. They then scored a quick two late on when we went 'fuck it mode' and threw everyone forward.

Having said that, they were excellent and really clinical going forward. We on the other hand have the potency of a wet fart going forward and it won't change until the manager takes his favourites out of the starting line-up. Broadhead, Wyke and Aasgaard all on the bench. I can understand the club being careful with Wyke, but at least two of those need to be starting.

Two points from nine at home now, West Brom on Tuesday just became a big game.

Another trip down the m4 tonight as we are at Cardiff. Both of us having somewhat indifferent starts but I saw signs of us being somewhere near or back to what made us good last season on Friday night which is good. Not sure I’d be looking to change much from that performance bar a bit more cutting edge which we have lacked for most of the season it must be said. Think Adebayo needs to have one go in off his backside to get us going properly.

Cardiff only have 3 goals so far this season and with our 4 it might be a bit of a tight game. We got a really important 1-0 win here last season, would be over the moon with that and would start feeling the season is back onto the right track again.

Thankfully Cardiff are clueless in the final third or that could have been painful. Stood off them once and almost paid but had chances to wrap it up throughout a decent game.

Woeful ref. He def hasnt read the new seasons update on letting the game flow. Worst for a while and i dont normally jump on the bash the ref baddwaggon

Remember the days when we couldn’t buy a win in Wales?

Agreed on the ref… he was woeful. (Despite the Forest fans consternation and views about him v Luton last season). We get Chris Kavanagh on Saturday who has been “consistently bad” at Watford tonight.

Couldn’t watch tonight but an excellent result for us, regardless of how good or poor Cardiff are it’s a tough place to go and get 3 points midweek, the sort of game there’s always going to be tough moments in and you’ll be tested, and we’ve come through that.

Now to try and get a win in England! Opportunity to start building some momentum with a home game at the weekend, 2 away wins in Wales - need to build some home form now.

Seems Jones got under the skin of Cardiff boss Steve Morisson. Saw them having heated words at the final whistle on the iFollow stream and this morning i read his post match comments are a tad testy and imo over exaggerated thier performance. Para phrased snippets such as 'we dominated every aspect of game, from start to finish'..... 'Gave them two chances they score from' and 'one was offside' .........Hmmmmmmm

Saw a different game to me. Maybe the man is under pressure having spent and brought in a lot of players. Maybe Jones just riled him up and he spoke to Media still rattled.

I thought Cardiff were tidy with the ball but almost zero threat. As usual we are happy to cede the majority of posession and break hard and fast which we did with purpose. They broke our press well at times but then wasted thhe gained initiative after moving thru us with a lot of poor final pass or poor striking options. I did really like the look of Kipre at the back (the player Jones mentioned Cardiff blew us out water who we wanted?) and Ojo, but he needs better final decisions/delivery. But quite a few times our press did work well and we were dangerous and could easily have scored more. I thought while our substitutions galvanised us to see it out, but broke our momentum and i didnt rhink Cardiff would ever score and we'd likely break and score at least one more. It went the other way. They get a long range effort fly in and its kinda tight finish.

Felt it was a great typical Jones away performanace in a reasonably close game we clearly were more dangerous without anyone dominating.

Yeah Morison got rattled by Jones at the final whistle as he apparently celebrated before shaking his hand or something. Nothing Jones did was out of order or disrespectful from what was shown on ifollow just a few fist pumps before going over to shake his hand which caused a “Tuchel/Conte” moment.

Jones does get under peoples skin quite a bit, he’s ridiculously passionate and a over the top at times, certainly his touch line behaviour I can see being viewed quite badly by other managers, but at least he gives credit to other teams when they do a job on us. Not that it matters a great deal but feels whenever we beat someone the oppo manager comes out with some nonsense like Morison has here last night.

Things that bad already...

Or maybe you just need to start playing a consistent run of games to get any form or momentum going?
Things are looking pretty bad yeah. The manager is openly stating that we're skint, the squad is weaker than last season, especially the defence, and if you take away our blistering start to last year then we've won 8 games in our last 39, and only won 3 at home since last October.

Our run of fixtures now is:

Norwich (a)
West Brom (h)
Luton (a)
Birmingham (a)
Middlesbrough (h)
Bristol City (a)
Burnley (h)
Cardiff (a)
Sheffield United (h)

It's hard to see where the points are coming from. We aren't even playing our games in hand until Nov/Jan so we're going to be beind for half the season.

Big chance to double our goal tally against Birmingham on Saturday, taking it to 4... they don't look very good.

That said, this is the Championship, every chance they'll end our defensive streak and win.

Need to go attacking in this one, Fernandez and Riis in from the start. Woodburn turned his ankle and is injured, so I'd move Brady central, DJ has not started the season well at all.

Woodman
Storey, Lindsay, Cunningham
Whiteman
Potts, McCann, Brady, Fernandez
Riis, Parrott

Great start from Preston not conceding yet. Good trait to have. Fucked up a few of my BTTS coupons so avoiding you for that going forward. Good luck for rest of season however.

After a rollercoaster of a few days in the life of an SAFC fan after the Alex Neil saga i must admit we were fantastic on Wednesday night. Jack Clarke was immense as was every player. Expecting a tough match against Boro on Monday.

Up to now this league is proving to be what i expected which is open as hell. So tough to predict outcomes most weekends unless Sheff Utd are at home. Burnley looking good under Kompany and Sarr and Joao Pedro staying at Watford will keep them in the promotion race as well as Norwich who are grinding out results.

Reading who i thought would struggle have been a lot better than i thought but seem to be better at Home than Away.

Gonna be an interesting season.

All moving along nicely for us at the moment.

A cracking transfer window, in so far as we didn't lose anyone.

Unbeaten in 7 and playing some decent stuff too, with goals aplenty.

A tough month coming up though, playing away at the likes of Norwich and Burnley, so well have a much better idea of how this season could pan out come October.

Blackburn away tomorrow, a game that could easily go either way. Our tails are up though, so I can see us nicking it by the odd goal.

Well deserved late equalise by WBA but there had enough chances to score 3/4 one again .

No wonder Steve Bruce looks older and older each week with the strain and stress of seeing the poor finishing.

Deserved equaliser from WBA. Only seen them twice this season, tonight and the Watford game and both times they have looked really good but didnt get the 3 points i think they probably warranted.

Burnley clearly got some very talented younger players, and had some opportunities to close it out themselves so made for a good game. On that showing both sides will be looking for playoffs minimum.

Wigan at home for us today. We have Had 3 quite positive performances on the spin and looking a bit more like last seasons team so somewhat hopeful we can get a first home win under our belts.

Wigan probably view this as one of the more winnable away games of their schedule and there is a bit of a blueprint out I feel on how to do a job on us here that could be exploited that probably works for a newly promoted better than the bigger clubs - sit in and ask us to break you down against a well set defence which we struggle to do.

Very frustrating and really only ourselves to blame. 80 minutes of the game we were well in control but didn’t kill the game off and rightly punished for it with some really sloppy moments. Up to the goal Wigan hadn’t looked like threatening but that’s what happens when you are sloppy in attack and don’t kills games. So many moments in that game where players have made poor decisions, taken poor touches.

Tactically I think Jones got it completely wrong. at 1-0. Woodrow into the midfield was totally the incorrect move, left us unbalanced there and basically playing a man short there. He doesn’t have the energy, athleticism or speed to play there for us, the amount of times he got bypassed was untrue and left it so easy for Wigan to get out of the press. Really poor decision.

Bell wasn’t very good but harsh to call him or a defender out for me. Lack of quality in attacking areas, 80 minutes of possession and territory and bar one well worked set piece routine nothing to show for it, and Jones more to blame for that imo. What he did to the midfield second half was a shocking decision by him.

I agree. We deserve to lose for being stupid rather than actually deserved to lose.

Bell just drives me absolutely nuts. Hes a L1 player at best with the ball who loses his head when a decision is needed that isnt sideways or backwards. Id be ok with him in Potts backup role - until we buy one - but get shot asap fullstop and def as a lwb. He gave them the first goal (without seeing a replay yet) was weak when it was his ball to win and maybe even already had it and losing it there left us fully exposed. That gives them momentum when they looked shot. He then puts in a crap challenge v Shinnie in the rb slot that last season is prob a cert pen. Then the winner comes with acres of space down the left again exposing us as we shuffle across. He is the weakest link by far

He was extremely poor today I will agree. Was lucky with the penalty shout but the ref was so lenient all game not totally surprised he’s not give it. It’s extremely frustrating that after playing through pre season Doughty hasn’t been able to feature in any capacity as Bell looks extremely uncomfortable past the halfway line.

I’m still frustrated/baffled/annoyed you name it with Nathan and his decision to put Woodrow in midfield today. Bizarre and costly mistake.

At least he usually learns. Think hes prob showing faith in a big money signing a d trying to shoe him in thinking his quality will pull him thru but as yet shown none.
