You went to Scunthorpe?

And returned another 6 times?

What the fuck is wrong with you?

I cannot even begin to tell you how many things there are wrong with our Termy. We should probably start with his day job being a Jimmy Somerville impersonator and go from there.

That being said...

Tranmere - 4
Northampton - 4
Colchester - 3
Cheltenham - 3
Swindon - 2
Walsall - 2
Mansfield - 2
Crawley - 2
Cambridge - 2
Stevenage - 1
Crewe - 1
Oldham - 1
Bradford - 1
Port Vale - 1
Grimsby - 1
Macclesfield - 0
Carlisle - 0
Exeter City - 0
Plymouth - 0
Newport - 0
Morecambe - 0
Salford City - 0
Fores Green Rovers - 0

...Scunthorpe - 5

Baffling.

Anyone but Vale or Salford on opening day. That opening day game we had with Vale 4 years ago is the worst game of football I've watched (along with a bore 0-0 draw with Crawley on Good Friday when Dean Saunders managed them) and there's no way I want the cameras on us for Salford's first league game.

Would prefer three South East aways (but not Orient as I want to go there again this season) on a Tuesday. As long as Plymouth away is a Saturday. Preferably last away game like in 2017 so it can be a weekender.

Bradford away first game for me please as we’ll take loads there and there’s always that false optimism amongst fans that were gonna have a good season before it all turns shit again.
2 seasons ago was an absolute car crash of a season yet that first game away at Chesterfield is one of the favourite aways I’ve ever been to, atmosphere fantastic with us all blindly thinking that Russell Slade was gonna get us promoted. :D

Amazing what 10 pints and an opening day victory does to the mind.

We haven't lost on the opening day since 2003, been suffering with premature promotion at 5.00pm once the inaugural league table is up and running

When is the fit and proper time for next season’s predictions?

I’ve named Cambridge Utd as dark horses for the past 2 seasons.

Fuck that again!

I didn’t do too bad last season. I got 8 or 9 positions right.

Mind you, Mansfield was always a shoe-in for fucking it right up.

Aye, I’d take that - or at your place. Looking forward to this fixture next season.

How many you reckon you’d fetch - we can accommodate up to 3,100ish.

If it was opening day i think we’d take the lot, any other time in the season I’d say probably anywhere between 1500 - 2500 depending on how we’re doing at the time.

If it was last game of season and wanted a point to go up, we would fill it easily.

Fair play. The last time we were down here you failed to bring more than 800.

Will look out for Orient away, it’s one of the best away days for us - can do it easily on the train, plenty of pubs nearby or a stop or two away on the tube, it’s a good ground, good club and a little bit of needle between us in the 90s gets recalled by older fans and adds a bit of spice.

None of the sides coming down enthuse me in particular (they’re not awful, just similar trips to what we already have). That said we haven’t played Walsall, Scunthorpe or Bradford for at least 15 years so there’s certainly a novelty factor there.

And Salford can fro.

I just wonder who we play over Christmas now? Northampton? Scunthorpe? Grimsby?

Given Lincoln did fantastically well last season and went up and chesterfield and Notts are now down in the conference (sniggers) we’ve not many local games next season.

That’s what happens when you’ve shitcroft as manager. So delighted he’s gone, panic panic panic whenever it mattered.

Surprised there’s so many Mansfield folk deluded enough to persevere with him

A week to go before we all find out who gets to play Salford on telly on the Friday before the rest of the division kick off, and by extension be the first team to sit rock bottom of the football league.

Do you reckon we (whichever of us) will have to travel to Salford on a Friday night because the camera's and studio will already be set up?

Because it will inevitably be selected as a telly match. Yes absolutely. Also whoever plays them on Boxing Day will need to be there in time for a 12:30 kick off

Whilst it's bloody obvious their first game will be on telly, I don't think it'll be the Friday night game. That'll be whoever Leeds or (assuming Frank Lampard is still there) Derby get.

The Salford game will either be Saturday lunchtime or Sunday at 1:30 (assuming the Community Shield is a 4:00 kick-off).

You know, I was thinking the same thing. Give ‘em a good opening day spanking.

Bit of a memory test here - I remember listening to the results on the drive back from Swansea - didn't Swindon hammer a newly promoted team on the opening day of the 06/07 season?

Bradford at home for me. It's the only way they'll bring more than 600 to our place.

Nice to be reacquainted, Firthy.

We'll probably start at home, we usually do. Doubt it'll be as easy as last seasons opening day was though.

Given the FL's track record of now putting some long distance trips in midweek, I'm reckoning Stevenage, Crawley and maybe Swindon for our Tuesday night away days. For no real reason. Away on Boxing Day, home on the final day.

They do the longer away trips midweek allegedly at our level to help clubs financially as they prefer it as it can avoid a night stopover with the full day to travel down and impacts less with away fans as the die hards would only do it anyway. Hence we always end up at Yeovil or Carlisle on a midweek!
