We started last season away at Grimsby, which is just about as far away as you can get...it would have been nice if it had been closer so our emergency kit supplier wouldn't have had to travel so far to make their delivery in the hours before kick-off.

Bradford at home for me. It's the only way they'll bring more than 600 to our place.

Nice to be reacquainted, Firthy.

They do the longer away trips midweek allegedly at our level to help clubs financially as they prefer it as it can avoid a night stopover with the full day to travel down and impacts less with away fans as the die hards would only do it anyway. Hence we always end up at Yeovil or Carlisle on a midweek!

The die-hards love it. We've both hosted and travelled to Plymouth on Tuesday nights in recent seasons and away attendances usually hover around the 150-200 mark. Last time, Sky TV even footed the travel bill for the Carlisle fans.

It does make a twisted sort of sense to put those games midweek for the fans benefit as well as finances as those figures aren't too far down on how many you'd expect to give up a whole day to travel the length of the country on a Saturday, whereas an away game close enough to be a Saturday afternoon out should remain that way to ensure the maximum possible attendance.

Some who might go on a Saturday would be put off by the prospect of having to set off Tuesday morning and not arriving home until Wednesday morning but it would be balanced by those who feel they can justify knocking off early from work and having to get most of their sleep on the coach on the way home more than they could justify spending an entire Saturday attending an away game.

To be honest there aren't that many away games for the likes of Carlisle and Plymouth that aren't whole day investments. If you went and stuck the likes of Morecambe and Oldham on Tuesday nights then there would be none at all for us.

I think your colleague is most likely wrong. A date for the draw isn't even mentioned on the cup's home page, and they would surely at least put it on their own page.

That said, since it'll most likely take place at 3am our time live from Guam maybe they don't think we need to know when it is.

I've done a sweep on our Fishy forum to guess our first league opponents.

Already have all 46 options taken. It was a fiver a go so the winner will get £230.

I took the final 2 options that were left which were either Colchester or Newport at home.

It's where away fans are only allowed in if they arrive in a police escorted 'bubble' which departs from their stadium. Chester and Wrexham do it because of the hilariously heavy-handed police in that area. Chester fans who wish to attend their away game at Wrexham have to board a coach outside the Deva Stadium the morning of the game to be escorted to the Racecourse Ground, and then back afterwards, or else they're not allowed into the stadium. Even if they happen to live in Wrexham, they have to drive to Chester early hours to board an official coach back to Wrexham, then are made to take the coach back to Chester again after the match just so they can drive back home to Wrexham.

It's rather ridiculous that Cheshire and North Wales constabularies feel that the potential for trouble is even greater than at the Old Firm where the police manage to maintain order without taking special measures.

Chester do have a strangely hooligan element for such a posh city to be fair; I think the 1970s is only just reaching the place now. I once attended a game between Chester and Barnet with a Barnet-supporting friend and we were given a lift back to the station by the supporters coach after the game and one of the Chester fans threw a brick at it, but still it's a bit extreme.

Bit of a memory test here - I remember listening to the results on the drive back from Swansea - didn't Swindon hammer a newly promoted team on the opening day of the 06/07 season?
First game of 06/07 season Swindon absolutely hammered Hartlepool 1-0.

We've announced our final friendly, a week before the opening game away to Ross County. This pretty much guarantees our opening game will be away to Plymouth

Half expecting something like Orient, FGR or Cambridge at home. Will probably be Plymouth, Crawley or Carlisle away.

Long as it isn’t Salford I’m not too fussed tbh.

From a Morrison's Supermarket in England I've heard.

It's the one in Nailsworth apparently. Might have a glance over at it as I'm going round doing my shop.

Plymouth home or away would be good.

Always angers me when I think back to Swindon/Plymouth 2003. 0-2 down with 10 minutes to go. "2-0 and you fucked it up" rings around the ground. Meanwhile Marino Keith breaks away and scores to give them the win. "2-2 and you fucked it up".

Upsetting turn of events when you're 12 years old :(

Same thing happened in 2010:

Bradley Wright-Phillips was class that night. Hard to believe it was 9 years ago. Worked until 7pm back then walked in late just as we went 0-2 down!

I fully agree with that Big Bird. I can remember that empty feeling when you equalised and " two nil and you fucked it up rang around the county ground" Literally seconds later, Evans flick on, Keith through one on one and pure elation and ecstasy in the away end.

The second game was obviously fantastic but nothing can beat the feeling of the first one I have to admit.

It was incredible. I was sat in the Don Rodgers stand which is the one a load of your fans ran towards when the winner went in. Had some middle aged skinheaded Plymouth fan offering me out through the whole 90 minutes. Needless to say I rushed home afterwards looking over my shoulder! That game has always stuck with me. Depressing but a great atmosphere. More like afternoon tea down The County Ground these days.

As if Nailsworth has a Morrisons. It probably has a Waitrose, a Booths and then probably some Californian chain the rest of us have never heard of.

They already said anyway, it's the Wembley Morrisons.

I went to Booths when up in the Lake District. That's a northern thing isn't it? (Booths, not the Lake District)

Yes, Booths are in posh parts of the North West (yes, there are a few 'better off' areas up there). Great bottled beer selection, that's why I frequent them.
