Well, dominated that in the end and were getting some shots on target but couldn't make it count. At least when we give away poor goals at home now we get back into it. Positives to take but if we are going to be challenging need to win from situations like that.

That was dreadful, any number could have gone up for injury time and we wouldn't have scored.

Hopefully there will be a couple of teams that are worse than us as we're just not a threat and only had a couple of chances with a man advantage.

Held out well against barrows 11 men until the 102nd minute. Rod Mcdonald has been steadily improving since a shaky opening couple of games

The Referee gave Newport a undeserved (not that it matters to them) win.

Four games in, and I’m utterly fed up. Last week I can take, a poor performance and a deserved defeat. But to score a beauty like that, and to end up losing due to two individual mistakes (one by Bowery and one by referee) I imagine our confidence is well and truly in the gutter, can anybody explain how it feels to win a game?
Pretty good. Pretty good. Especially when you are top of the league too. Seriously though that pen was a poor decision - looked outside the box and not sure your guy could have put his arm anywhere else. Handballs these days are a complete lottery. Free kick that lead to our 1st goal looked soft too. Overall we just about deserved it but would have settled for a point after going behind. Cracking goal by McLaughlin be the way.

Absolutely stressful the way we went so deep when down to 10 men.

Good win and deserved due to how dominant we were 11 v 11.

I think you’ll have plenty of the ball tomorrow but we are dangerous on the break. We haven’t conceded a goal this season and have scored 8. Anything can happen on the day but I’m confident it won’t be a comfortable 2-0 win for you.

I agree with everything except you saying you deserved it, a point? I can see that, but three I don’t see it personally.

Was not too much in it though, hard to take result that, Newport look improved from last season.

Southend more than deserved their point today. Crawley just decided to watch them play. It was so frustrating. When they finally scored we decided to attack again and could have scored ourselves

Tyler Frost looks like a find for us but he really needs to find some shooting boots. Missing a one on one when the keeper saves is one thing. Shooting high and wide from six yards is another. Is strangulation an acceptable coaching tool?

Agreed, not much in it. As I said a point would have been ok. Would be gutted myself if we lost to a pen decision like that. You haven't had much luck with pens down in that corner of Dave.

A poor first half, albeit Scunthorpe did not really trouble us, but a well deserved victory in the end. It says something about the quality of our squad this season that we could be without three or four key players and win as comfortably as that.

We are heavily reliant on Vaughan' s goals at the moment, but perhaps that won't be a problem if the back four remains so solid.

You weren’t that bad. Your number 10 is clearly a good player, we just pressed the life out of you first half which probably took you by surprise a bit. When you did break the press you put some decent passing moves together but just lacked the final ball. I’m sure it will click at some point. Quigley didn’t look fit to me, I know he’s missed games so maybe lacking some sharpness. Can’t really judge either team when it was 10 v 11 as we sat so deep and just tried to kill the life out of the match that it wasn’t proper football.

You’re better than Southend, it’s just we were much better today (11 v 11) than we were against Southend.

Starting to see that some of our new signings just aren't good enough. I think we would have been better if Carlisle didn't go down to 10 as everything just seemed panicked.

Ref gave the red immediately, so wasn't influenced by the injury - dreadful officials today though and ref booked Hardcastle for diving when it was a stonewall penalty. Loads and loads of fouls given the wrong way against both teams today.

We set up all wrong and were overrun out wide, and it cost us big time.

Entirely as expected from a squad that hasn’t trained for two weeks versus a good side like Cheltenham. No lack of effort, but we weren’t at the races and can’t defend (whether we’re match fit or not). We’re utterly guaranteed to finish somewhere between 12th and 18th.

Speechless after that abomination. Not one proper goal attempt. No idea how to break them down.
0-0 was maybe about right but can't deny Morecambe had the best of the few chances.
Totally woeful performance.

Did you hear that Carlisle fan they just had on BBCRC. Made you sound deliriously optimistic.

I agree the ref was shit, should have sent Brough off when he denied a clear goal scoring opportunity, but It looked like Reilly didn’t touch the player for that “stonewall penalty”. I’ll have to see it again but that’s how it looked to me.

Impressive performance by us today and I believe we'll be alright this season and not struggle like I originally thought plus once we're injury free then we should be a team to be feared.

Barrow had no answers today.

Three points papers over the cracks, Barrow the better team on the day, and the better team on paper.
Can’t have been watching it or he doesn’t understand football. No way were Barrow the better team, not a chance.

Only saw the one replay of the incident, but Hardcastle was tripped - no two ways about it. He had a shot on, and no reason to go down at all.
I was convinced Brough would walk for that, but can see why a yellow as he never had the ball under control.

All the talk on our forum though is (rightly) about how bad we were. We certainly can play better than that, but it's gonna knock our confidence.

As expected a fairly comfortable, routine win for us today.

Thought to be fair your players worked to the game plan perfectly. Don’t think either team really deserved to win that as both defences were very untroubled for the vast majority of the game but with our lack of any attacking threat at all today something like that was always a risk of happening.

It is some of last seasons few problems still evident, Morecambe were more negative than we were at the Etihad in January! Never seen a side play that negative at home against us before but we needed to mix it up more. Pope should of come on to make it stick really.

If a side wants to play football and generally is one of the better sides we will happily take them on and usually beat them, as we did last season, if a team is one of the lower quality sides who dig in and just want to scrap and try and get a 0-0 or scab a goal we still don’t have the answers. Hence why we were so good against the top 10 last season (2 defeats) but lost 6 to the lower half sides.

They knew with a Prem level referee if they threw themselves to the floor at the slightest touch he would give it and we fell for it to often.

Maybe time to mix up from the rigid 4-3-3 system we have been playing against a cloggers and go 2 up top in those.

Not sure if was an injury or a tactical change which forced Payne off today. If it was the latter, then it was a very brave decision to go one man up top mid way through the first half. What ever it was it worked in our favour as James Vaughan played the lone striker role brilliantly albeit against a very ordinary and unambitious looking Scunthorpe who never tested Scotty once all afternoon!

The globule of spunk is rather apt as a descriptor of what we saw today. Askey got it wrong. Morecambe cheated at every opportunity. The referee in his first game back since filming a mentally disabled person on his snapchat (weirdo) gave a horrendous decision for a penalty dive. It was lined up to only go one way.

Every year there's cries of WHY WON'T YOU DIE ALREADY on this forum. Macclesfield gave you the reprieve last time out. Not this year.

Oh my! Disappointed then?
