Yep. From when we lost to Cheltenham in Cardiff in 2006 to when Hurst and Scott took over in 2011 we were fucking garbage, but we still took decent numbers away. Several 1000+ away trips watching the worst Grimsby sides I have ever seen. So yeah, I don't buy this if you had to put up with what we did argument. We dropped from the 2nd to the 4th tier like a stone before that period mentioned above, too.

At least you saw some promotions and decent seasons playing bigger clubs along with the decline, at SB we have had 3 promotions in decades and decades. Club nearly going to the wall and season after season of scraping by wondering if we can survive. Bound to be an upturn in numbers once it's bottomed out and finally on the upturn. As for the rivalry, it's always been there, well before my first ever visit to The Old Showground when there were lots of Grimsby fans in attendance too.

In all seriousness though, there's always been an element of fickleness among Lincoln supporters, although we're not the only culprits of that. There's plenty of Lincoln fans who have stuck with the club over the years who are feeling frustrated with the current influx of "fair weather" supporters, but that's the result of success I guess.

But something happened last season that can't be explained. As soon as the Cowleys arrived I think most of us could sense something drastic had changed. They captured the imagination of the whole city - be it our hardcore fanbase, those who have been staying away for the last few years, children, families and even university students.That's why we need to take advantage of the ridiculous situation we currently find ourselves in because we have a fabulous opportunity to increase the stature of the club even further.

The one thing that pleased me the most about last season, other than the success on the pitch, was the huge number of young supporters that were coming to watch our games - both home and away. Look around the city now and you'll see youngsters wearing Lincoln shirts, not Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea etc. If they keep coming back, even when we're stagnating or struggling - which is bound to happen sooner rather than later - then there's every chance of sustained success. That's something we've not had for decades, bar the three or four year period under Keith Alexander.

Think the Junior Imps Club has had a lot to do with that and the fact the Cowleys have got themselves and the players out into the local schools.
Since we won the league the trophy has taken to lots of the schools around the city.

It is funny though, after one good season (and fair play, great season) Lincoln fans have seemingly forgotten how tinpot and shite they were for years and we find them popping up on every Grimsby related thing you can find. You lot are posting on our OS's season ticket updates and sang about us at your promotion party and at the scene of one of sports greatest achievements (Burnley away). It's so desperately sad. Even sadder for a team who 'didn't care' about us when we were spanking you every Christmas.

There are more Lincoln threads on The Fishy than there are on any Lincoln one, especially over the last month or so. Grimsby fans love to talk about Lincoln more than they realise.

There are two songs that include Grimsby - Alan Power (off the back of him rejecting you and signing a new deal with us, despite Hurst's comments) and Nathan Arnold, who just happens to used to play for you. They've not been sung especially for your pleasure. I doubt Dover, for example, feel them same when here's a song about Sean Raggett.

Lincoln In fans my age have never been a proper rival, it stems from the fact you've not made it past this division since 1998. So I think it's hard to take a set of fans serious who pick and choose if we're rivals based on wether they're winning games at the time or not.

Singing about us on those two occasions though, are Lincoln fans not mortified by that?

See, I've made similar comments for years and get stick for it.

When I was growing up, we were playing Boston, Scunthorpe and even Hull for a short period. Grimsby we no-where to be seen. Now, the younger generation (he says, at 29!), see Grimsby as big rivals and I can't see it (and also knowing a few Mariners). It's obviously because we've played each other over the last 5-7 years more than we probably ever have. Just who you get used to playing, I suppose.

After having North Ferriby, then York, Macc and Solihull as nearest rivals last season, we will definitely make do with having all those other nearby derbies.

Oh right, well guess we've never considered each other proper rivals, just casual rivals, much the same as we are with Grimsby and County. There's virtually nothing between distances between Chesterfield and Notts Co for instance - whereas our rivalry with them lot across the M1 is pretty passionate, the one with County is harmless apart from the odd County fan who gets carried away

While it's great we've sold all these season tickets, sadly crowds don't win titles, ask Newcastle those guys get 50k every home and generally struggle whereas Bournemouth's ground holds around 11k and doing ok in the prem on league one crowds.
Players on the pitch doing the biz is what counts not filling the ground up although it does help the finances!

Not a chance we would take those numbers, only possibility if it was a very important and decisive game. Managed 5000 at Ipswich and 9000 at Arsenal last season for the cup games but can see 1500-2000 being a usual away figure to the local games. That will also be dependent on whether or not the powers that be make ko times at stupid o'clock.

Our KO's shouldn't change, with the exception of Mansfield as it involves a large Notts police contingent.
Anything less than 4,000 should never affect our KO times.
