Not sure about that (they had a bus parade after winning community shield!). He fielded a pretty strong line up apart from 2 or 3 youngsters. That team should have easily beaten a team like Sheffield Wednesday.

In the end, a "world class" team like Ass Na got tonked by a much much weaker team in their off day. Score would have been much higher if this game was played on Wednesday.

Arsenal need someone to step in and contribute now. Can he be the one to do that? No doubt better than playing a full back there but I would still want to sign a Vlaar or Reid who is proven at this level for the rest of the season.
Ah fuck.. why didn't we get Vlaar or Reid... FUCK

Gabriel is really good, ladz.

Crisis time is almost upon us, though, given that we've injured ourselves to the bare bones again. Could see Gibbs on the wing at Swansea (who we always lose to anyway).

Used to play in midfield, innit. He could play on the left with Sanchez on the right.

I've now seen that Wenger has said he's gonna choose between Joel Campbell and Alex Iwobi to fill in on the right. Campbell has never shown himself to be anything other than a waste of space, unfortunately.

Interesting that Crowley's come back (though reports seem to suggest this was Barnsley's choice, not ours... which is hardly encouraging). Shame we can't get Gnabry back.

I think it'll be Cazorla moved forward with Flamini in midfield for the Swansea game. I wouldn't mind Bellerin playing RW with Debuchy at RB to help with Montero.

Arsene:
[Joel] Campbell and Alex Iwobi [are options]. Santi can play there as well but he has become very important centrally.

The problem sometimes is that you can destroy two departments if you move one player out. We control the ball better with Santi in the middle

After Ramsey's, those two injuries are big blows to Wenger's team.
If Arsenal will experience a crisis this season. It will probably happen in the coming weeks.
But, if they survive these injuries, which means they are still level on points with City or better when they get those players back, then they are my favorites for title.

I really can't see how Arsenal could be anyone's favourites for the title, injuries or no injuries. Especially at this point in the season. They have shown a tendency to bottle it too often at the business end of the campaign.

Can we just appreciate how unlucky it is to lose Welbeck, Rosicky, Wilshere, Walcott, Ox and Ramsey to injury at the same time. All have played on the right for us in the last year.

No, because when it happens EVERY year it's obviously not down to luck.

Which is a bollocks cliche. It has happened, sure, in 2008 and 2013, but a bad start and strong finish has happened more often. From January on last season, Arsenal accumulated more points than anyone in the league. Is the business end of the season August through November? Arsenal have a consistency problem, but so does every group of players until they win the league. 2008 Arsenal have as much in common with the current Arsenal as the Invicibles do - Wenger (well, and Flamini).

He's right, though. The media haven't been remotely critical of Wenger for 11 years. :ohn:

Looking good at the mo but the squad is very thin right now. Bayern away and then the NLD in the next 7 days - would be surprised if we survive those without losing any more players, and then things won't look quite so rosy.

Arsenal need to get rid of Wenger. They are going nowhere with him. He is too loyal with his players and doesn't want to face leaving them out. He needs to strengthen the squad to a title-winning team, and for some reason he thinks that Arsenal's team are BPL winning quality right now. Either that or he just wants to finish 3rd or 4th every season. Giroud up front isn't title-winning quality, never mind Walcott. They also need a CAM and a LB. Other than that they need depth. Let's be honest here, Arsenal don't have quality depth in their team like Chelsea and Manchester City do. It may seem harsh, but it's true.

The loyal thing is a bit of a myth - he's stubborn, but he wasn't sentimental in demoting Ospina and loaning Szczesny when Cech became available.

Arsenal need a CAM? I think we need to stop playing so many CAM's. :dk:

If we made a team of the season at this point, both the CAM and LB spots would be Arsenal players in Özil and Monreal. Wenger's ruthlessness at GK has paid off - Cech's the best keeper in the league (if we exclude Spaniards with terrible facial hair).

Bellerin as well, he's been fantastic.
Been a few good GKs this season, with Butland and Gomes playing well but Cech probably edges it.

We do have a crisis, and City have shown why they have the best squad in the league.

Why does Cech edge it?
Butland is the obvious standout keeper this season so far.

Cech with Arsenal's defence in front of him.
Butland with Stoke's.

Butland has 3 clean sheets to Cech's 6.

Butland has conceded 12 goals to Cech's 8.
So? Cech has a better line in front of him and a team that keeps 97% possession.

If it's all just down to those stats then Hart has been the better keeper with 6 clean sheets and conceding just 5 goals. But you wouldn't say Hart was the best keeper so far would you? The goals Hart has conceded have only cost them points in 1 game as well against West Ham where they lost 2-1, but those goals weren't down to Hart. When Arsenal dropped points to West Ham it was pretty much blamed on Cech. So in terms of gaffes this season Hart gave Norwich a consolation, Cech gave West Ham 3 points.

Cech also has more punched clearances and more catches. Instils confidence into his defence and distributes better. All round he's a step ahead of Butland who's had a few good games against teams which have featured on Sky Sports.

Yeah, but Jack Butland is better looking and doesn't wear a 1970s cycle helmet.

There's no doubt Cech is a step ahead of Butland. A step is being fucking generous to the Stoke man. But we're not talking about the better keeper, we're talking about who's had the better season so far. As I said your reasoning using stats means a guy who you didn't even list should be ahead of the lot. I think just because Cech has come in and made a difference to Arsenal in some peoples minds (yes, I solely mean Arsenal fans really) think that equates to him having been better than everyone else in his position. Like I said if your argument is based around stats, your man isn't on top, if we're basing it on games you've watched, you'll have a heavy bias I imagine. And if we're just cherry picking whatever stat you want to suit your argument then we can say Gomez is on top cos he's the only one apart from the injured Courtois to save a penalty this season.
I don't disagree massively with your statement btw, just enough to have a rant!
