Away allocations 2022-23

Just looking at the league next year there are potentially three teams I see that would likely bring over 2500 and that’s Derby, Wednesday and maybe Bolton. Depending on if they are going for promotion etc on the last day am happy to throw in Plymouth too. For every one of them though there is Accy, Morecambe, FGR etc who will bring about 150-200. Allocating a whole 4500 seater stand for them is a waste to me unless can partition it like other clubs do.

Some of this would be a moot point if ever got round to opening the other side of the Lorne Street but it was ridiculous announcing a home sellout last season v Newport when there was what 8500 home fans there and the Hamil was virtually empty?

Portsmouth and Ipswich travel pretty well too, they’d do 2,500 if there was a promotion at stake.

A few first meetings in decades, Ipswich, Derby and Portsmouth last met in the second tier in the 90s, Sheffield Wednesday we doubled in 2003/04 and was doubled the year later but beat them in the cup under MA when Francis Jeffers nutted Fraser got sent off and needed stitches!

Would anticipate Wednesday will be allowed as many as they want. Think as I understand it they only limited the support from Wycombe to try and increase their home advantage. That’s my closest away game as only live about 5 miles from Stadium MK and we are there for our second away match I think. Personally it’s not really a stadium I enjoy going to. Looks great appearance wise but each time have been there you get a better atmosphere on the moon.

Believe it or not this was the first ever game I attended. Back in the day of the Hamil End being terraced think you could get almost 6000 in that or around that number. Was always hard to tell as our then owner had rather “creative” reporting of crowds etc at that time. Think Wednesday had just won the league cup around that time as well.

Yeah we had to cram about 4 games in ten days cos of the cup run and was a Monday night I think.

Tbf we sold out almost every away end last season and most games when allocations were big enough took 2000+. Took 6,800 to Milton Keynes.

Not saying we will definitely sell it out being a midweek fixture but we will certainly go close. I’ll be there anyway so that’s at least one. That said, we did sell out Cheltenham for a midweek fixture. Charlton (3,200) and Wimbledon (1100) were midweeks too and they both sold out quickly. Couple of other midweeks that I’d have expected to have been unlikely seeing as Ipswich is a bitch to get back to for midweek fixtures. With us playing you for the first time in a while, I’d be expecting at least 2,000 will travel up for it and if results are going our way, it’ll be a sellout.

We’d sold out something like 9 of our first 10 (maybe it was 9 from 11 to be fair) away games last season so it would’ve ended up as around 70% of the games sold out I’d have thought

I think sometimes people don’t realise we can provide up to that much capacity. New ground for so many of us under 25s so that’ll definitely help for numbers. Shame it’s midweek as we’d have definitely sold out the original 2,500 you offer without a doubt. We played stoke every season for years in the championship and even in our relegation season when we had won 1 away game in like 6 months we still had 1500 there. So port vale being nearby and a new ground the numbers will be good - even though it’s going to be a freezing cold Tuesday night

Problem is away fans get the best stand for acoustics and facilities certainly in comparison to the opposite, we tested it against Swindon in the play offs and it worked far better from a home point of view.

The Bycars will still have nearly 3k

Yeah but that’s the only time in 22 years and as above, was midweek so I suspect a lot more will be looking to do it on a Saturday, even the one in 2000 was a Tuesday.

You'll be allowed up to around 7k if you can sell it as I think that's our max allocation unless we suddenly have 15,000 fans appear from nowhere. The Wycombe thing was to increase competitive advantage that worked considering we won the game and would have won the tie had Stockdale not had a brilliant game, and it also worked against Mansfield when we had a shootout for promotion in 2019.

We’ve had police and board approval to relocate the away end to the far side which is the Bycars (allocation up to 3000 down from 4500 currently). We just need to complete planning permission and a few tweaks but is expected to come into force for the 2023 fixtures so anyone playing us after New Year will likely be in the Bycars End.

Obviously not every night will be like the playoff game but should improve what is usually a pretty terrible home atmosphere tenfold as well as other stuff like developing the fanzone etc.

I'm not so sure it will make any difference to them. In reality the only boozer in the town centre that is genuine away fan friendly on a normal matchday is the Bulls Head and any time there's been increased home support (which given ST sales is a reasonable assumption this season) such as Bristol Rovers etc they've let not away fans in then. It seemed to work pretty well for Swindon in keeping home and away fans apart outside. Obviously the pitch invasion was nothing to do with the swapping of stands.

We parked in some other car park that wasn't Dimensions. There was nowhere to drink (I was driving anywhere so didn't bother me too much) so would be interesting to see what Vale do. Perhaps doing something behind the away stand like some kind of fan zone in a marquee or something?

These are the ones that I can actually get to this season, but I know Burton is very unlikely due to tickets. If I can get to half the away games then that would be good for me - 7 new grounds out of that lot too, for me!
