I don't tbh, Tomlin was unlikely to feature much, we've filled our starting RB position, seemingly brought in a good replacement for Abraham, hopefully he can get 15 plus, another striker would be nice but I'd back Djuric to get a few over the course of a season. Otherwise I'd back us to do well with the side we played 442 with. Maybe a new GK and LB but otherwise think we're okay, think we'll be mid-lower mid table.
My concern wasn't about Tomlin fella, purely coincidental that he left today. I just think, without further signings, we are gonna struggle big time as I think we're weaker than last season. Our 'backup' players just aren't good enough IMHO and injuries / suspensions are bound to happen. We have a bloated squad full of very ordinary players, outside of the first 11 and I'm concerned.

Fully expect us to sign 2 or 3 more players to compete for first team spaces, GK definitely being one, wouldn't be surprised to see Golbourne leave (probably a couple more too) and a new left back come in. Then expect another striker and winger.

I hope you're right fella as, currently, we are very weak for this level IMHO. Another season of struggle awaits, as things stand. :(

For what it's worth I think if we get a GK, LB and RM in who are first-team quality we should,on paper, be alright. Don't trust us not to cock it up and end up in another relegation battle like every season in the Championship we've had since Gary Johnson left though.

Sorry to see Tomlin go, but sounds like he rubbed plenty of our squad up the wrong way.

We'll always have that last minute winner at Fulham Lee.

I'm ambivalent about Tomlin. When he wanted to be good, he was very good but, as V says, he has obviously rubbed a few up the wrong way. I still think it was a battle of egos between him and the unsackable one.
Great talent with a piss poor attitude meets shite Manager with a high opinion of himself? I know who i would rather have lost and it ain't Tomlin although I'm not too fussed that he's gone after last season.

We want Jamie Murphy from Brighton. Will cost a fair bit I reckon, but they have March, Skalak and Lua-Lua that can play on that side so they need to get rid of one of them.

Pig c*** isn't he Walkley?
Always rated Jamie Murphy, looks a very good player. Would be delighted if we signed him.

Tidied this thread up a few pages back and sent a couple of PM's, try to keep it calm and friendly please. I know it's the off season so everyone is thumb-twiddling but still, it's not necessary.

Bid gone in for Eliasson. Boring, announce McManaman, Murphy or something to wet the appetite.

Couldn't feel less arsed about the football atm, keep the cricket coming...
If anything signing a foreign player is much less "boring" than a player like McManaman or Murphy, because nobody knows how good he'll actually be until he steps foot on the pitch. I'm happy with this, shows that Ashton and Johnson are aware of areas in the team that aren't quite good enough, and acting on it by going for reasonable targets.

How do you know he's a reasonable target? He's a 21 year old player that's in the same league as Gustav Engvall was, if you remember him. We've just sold our best player, and it's obvious where we need to add to the side - so spend the money wisely and get in a player that'll signal a statement of intent.

Assuming you're able to find one whose willing to come. We're probably still in the bottom 8 clubs financially in this league, going out and signing big players isn't easy.

Without sounding a c*** (I know, I know), Bristol City are not a big draw for players IMHO, you can offer the wages but do you have the "I want to play for this club" factor? I'd suggest your manager doesn't help matters either but what do I know I'm not a city fan.

What on earth are you on about? How would we be one of the bottom 8 clubs financially in this league - we're getting nearly 20k at home every week, Ashton Gate is booked solid for every day of every week three months in advance for corporate events and such, we're absolutely raking it in. Added to that we have had a shit ton of money come in from player sales and sells on such as Bolasie and Adomah - we've spent more than £20m over the last three transfer windows, I've genuinely no idea what you're on about.

Pay the money and a good player will come - saw that with Tommo and O'Neil (barring the good player part with the latter). And we have the money available.

You're right, we're not a big draw currently (in comparison with some very big clubs in this league like Villa) and our manager is shite - but if you pay the right money players will come.

I'd imagine PNE, Barnsley, Burton, Millwall, Bolton, Ipswich, Brentford, QPR & Sheff Utd all work on stricter budgets than Bristol City.

Above that, it's anyone's guess, Reading don't throw money about and Forest don't seem to have many big name players.

I'd imagine you creep into the top half in terms of spending power.
