True. First time we've ever drawn with a Championship side then. ;)

Anyone who gets us in the first round of this cup is nailed on to win. I can't even remember the last time we won in the first round, possibly around 6/7 years ago

You really must be a bad league cup side to lose to us on pens, our shoot out record is shocking.

We only win big shootouts in playoffs

One of my earliest football memories is you winning that shoot out v Sunderland. It was on the telly in my uncles house. Amazing drama, helped starting getting me properly interested in football.

Last ball out for the second successive round, this time a money-spinning away draw to Rochdale... again! Can't remember exactly when we last played Rochdale in a cup but feels like about two weeks ago.
Two years ago, at your gaff in the FA Cup. It's 28 years since we met in the League Cup, though...

Bloody good result at Barnsley tonight. We normally lose several-nil there!

By the way, is it the Eden that floods your place or the Pettiril? Once lost points in a quiz for suggesting the latter :( A quick look at the map suggests I was right...

Was annoyed when I woke up and saw it had ended 2-2, thought it had gone to extra time. Then I realised they'd wisely scrapped it and I was happy to see we'd won on penalties. Porter is on fire, nice for Kirk to get off the mark as well.

Not bothered about seeing the lead slip, when they are bringing on players like Assombalonga and Fletcher and Woodgate is still complaining about being thin on the ground, you know you are doing something right.

Delighted to get a big home draw for a change, they always seem to be away. About time we get a good one at home. Villa should sell out the 2,300 allocation I'd hope. Would like to think we could get at least 5,000 home fans in the ground, if not more. We won't be on the box, they'll pick Newport and Lincoln ahead of us I'd imagine. But who cares, another very positive night.

Decent win for Crawley away at Walsall. Good to see Nadesan start his Crawley career with an assist and a goal.

First cup win for about four seasons. Norwich at home next round...can't have too many victories in the bounce now. Can we.

It's the Petteril that floods the ground, joins the Eden a couple hundred yards downstream of the ground so any water that flows into the ground has come from the Petteril. Reminds me of a question in a quiz I was at a few weeks ago that caused uproar because the quizmaster thought water was an element.

Barnsley were crap. Nerves of playing us must've got to them.

We got thumped 4-1 at Coventry but in our defence we did make 7 or 8 changes but it doesn’t look good when your fringe players perform badly, so an easy decision for Taylor re Saturday’s team selection.

One bright spot was Ben Chrisene getting 5 minutes off the bench to become our youngest ever player at 15 years, 7 months and a day old. He’s being monitored by some big clubs so will probably be snapped up fairly soon if he’s the real deal, just like Ampadu to Chelsea.

Lost to Morecambe in penalties.

Something is seriously wrong, three games this season we have conceded six goals, including 4 against Morecambe and 5 that were all early in the first half.

How is cook going on? Good for a goal, shame he looks like he’s stuck in cement then has the audacity to moan at those around him for not gift wrapping tap-ins to him.

Thought we were decent again against Blackpool. Outplayed in the main but rode our luck, scored one particularly good goal and eventually edged it on pens, as per. Grimsby next up is uninspiring but fairly winnable - after all, it's written in the stars that Sol will get us to round 3 and then draw Spurs.

For the 5th season running we get dumped at the first hurdle.

OK, we rested a few but Yates now faces a 3 game ban - if we don’t appeal.

1,595 in attendance. Christ, how many turn up for their Winky Wanky Cup games?

The gulf between us and Burton was staggering and makes you want to weep at how quickly we have sunk in a few years.
They were brighter , quicker and passed us to death.
The attendance as with most last night was appalling, 3700 less home fans than Saturday.
Dying a death sadly this Cup is, until you draw a Villa, West Ham etc.

As for the match, Cullen is not even an upgrade on Ricky Miller so our recruitment looks piss poor with only one new signing making the starting X1 , we needed a minimum 4 .

More realistic than negative. Was pleased Saturday v Cobblers but our lack of recruitment is worrying.
As for my namesake it was all reverse psychology he knows they are going up and reach the last 8 in the cup :bg:

Morecambe fans must be giddy with excitement.
They have drawn us away.
At least we can save on stewarding and put the morecambe fans in the main stand as it's the only one we will bother opening.
They will bring more than you managed to get to travel the 20 odd miles to Vale last night.

Been benched behind Rose and Maynard in league, dunno about last night but came on last 10 on Saturday and looked crap but it’s not a fair assessment obviously.

One saving grace this season is Rose and Maynard look a good pairing, so we will score plenty and Cook is clearly good for this level all considered.

Have to laugh, Newport are so good at cups that even when their manager says not to bother coming they still win. Seems to have been a penalty fest there, inc some pretty dubious ones. checked who the ref was and, unsurprisingly saw it was Trevor Kettle

Absolutely humiliated at home to Preston 4-0, made 8 changes fair to say nobody impressed. £15 and 2 hours of my life I'll never get back.

Decent performance from us to be fair. Looked better all over the pitch and our keeper never made anything other than a regulation save all evening. Three clean sheets in a row as well which is unheard of for us! Fair play to the Orient fans who traveled, long way on a Tuesday night

We might have an outside chance of getting on TV vs Villa at home. But probably a couple other ties ahead of ours.

Lincoln Vs Everton - 100% will be a TV game.
Newport Vs West Ham - Newport are good value for a cup shock.
Forest Vs Derby - big rivalry
Newcastle Vs Leicester - two decent sized premier League teams facing each other

We were superb last night. We've been set up brilliantly defensively in all three of our competitive games this season. We look fit and hard to break down, exactly what you'd expect from a Calderwood side.

Swansea away on a week night is going to be an absolute pain.

Issue is Darren we've had to spend the budget on the treatment to clear the cancer (i.e. £5 Million to remove Norman) but will need to learn to walk again and will take time.

We look better but wont happen overnight, could take a couple of years, this season is like 10 years ago.... Micky's first season after Glover had assembled one of the worst Vale sides on paper if not the worst in history. Make us hard to beat and then progress season on season.

Hate being in this league and expectation's when out of L1 should always be promotion challenges with our size etc but this is one occasion I will let them off due to the damage done these past three years.

As for Cullen being a new Miller, give him chance! only played and scored against a L1 outfit, bet he will score more than the paltry 4 Miller Boy got!

Tiny bit jealous of the other League 2 sides who have managed to get through and have plum draws in round 2 and I offer my congratulations to them.

However, not really that bothered that we have bowed out 3-0 at Colchester. Our only striker Yates getting sent off for violent conduct is the main takeaway item from last night. Wellens has stated he's now trying to bring in a loan striker before Saturday.

Better news in that we came through unscathed injury wise. Our priority is league 2 this season so taking the positives out of last night mainly.

I had a look into IPTV about 6 months ago and as far as I could see iFollow wasn’t part of it, certainly not for every club. It’s a good idea though.
Oh, but it is. Not every game, though. I watched Grimsby v Bradford last Saturday via the Grimsby iFollow stream.
Oh is that right, Dan? Have you got it, then? I emailed IPTV and they told me I'd be able to watch every Grimsby match if I wanted? Was gonna wait until this weekend to subscribe as I'm probably not going to FGR. Are they telling me porkies?

The Clive Mendonca final.

Oh come on, they do it every year now. It's really nice of them to put on some entertainment throughout the summer but we all know that when the season starts they won't actually be as bad as they're making out.

Ah yes, the draw was last night. Now to take a large sip of my lovely hot coffee and check which Premier League side we have been drawn against...
