Yep, first few listens of the new State Champs and I'm onboard. Pleasing that they've made a really good catchy record as the follow up to their break through, which (as I think I mentioned a while back) has been a bit of a let down for a few bands over the last few years, in my opinion. Didn't really think that much to Secrets when I first heard it, but it's a right tune. The album flows really well too and they've balanced picking up where they left off from The Finer Things well with a slightly different focus. I'm all for bands flipping the script and departing the sound they've built up but only if it's good.

Handguns album.

Significantly better than the latest State Champs offering.

Hahahahahahahaha, that's pretty good actually! Well made at least. Love the little blast of the live performance.

Will check out that Handguns album over the weekend too.

New Good Charlotte. I've hated everything they've put out since The Chronicles of Life and Death (which was 11 years ago, FUCK!).

This is sounding good though. Very current and relevant with the sound in pop punk at the moment. Reminds me of more recent NFG.

I still credit this band as the band that got me into pop punk.

cringed the whole way through to be honest. they're crazily derivative right down to the haircuts and the lyrics are terrible. some kinda gross blurred lines vibe about the video as well.

don't really listen to any pop-punk any more. the dream is over. joyce manor, modern baseball and the hotelier are all that's left. rip

If you take things too seriously, you could probably dismiss 90% of "punk" bands from 1976 right through to today, for one reason or another.

Surely. whatever your views on the look of a band, or lyrical content, or whatever, if your listening to a piece of music it all comes down to how that piece of music sounds doesn't it? And personally, whilst I do agree somewhat that they come across as a kind of punk "parody", I think the song itself sounds great!

What sort of stuff are you listening to these days?

Used to listen to them when they were around. Some of the most ridiculously emo song titles. Dear Diary, My Teenage Angst Has a Body Count. Weird to think that the singer is now Skrillex. Should have stuck at the screamo as he's an awful dj/producer. The Bled are probably my favourite of that time/style. Or maybe Circle Takes the Square.

Whaaaaaat, I know he was seen as a bit of a joke when he started but Skrilly's work on some of Bieber's new stuff is fuckin gr8888.

makes sense just to screenshot my last.fm from the last year, no hiding there

I guess from that the closest to pop-punk is radiator hospital. your boyfriend and cut your bangs are probs their most immediate songs

Couple of new Real Friends songs that are alright.

New Aaron West and the Roaring Twenties song is awesome, though.

Not pop-punk anymore but here's Blinks first song from their new album California.
It's okay, not amazing though.

That new Blink song has grown on me a lot. I've never noticed it before but Mark and Matt Skiba's voices sound very similar so I'm not quite sure who's singing where. I always liked that Mark and Tom had very different sounding voices. Album will be solid though as Skona/Hoppus/Barker are a trio of awesome musicians and song writers.

Just noticed that the debut Trash Boat album was produced by Soupy from The Wonder Years (his 1st time producing). Can't wait for it.

They've got John Feldmann producing and co-writing on it as well. He's no Jerry Finn, but that type of relationship where someone worked very closely with the band in the studio worked so well then, so I'm really hoping this has too. Album out 1st July, we should be expecting a UK tour some time after xmas.

Here's a list of Feldmann's previous work. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Feldmann#Selected_discography
