I used Hull as an example as we both get very similar attendances, and have both increased fanbase substantially from the 70s/80s.

I think the distance is largely irrelevant, 1 hour or 3 hour journey, for a play-off final a fan who wants to go, will go. Games like that show the full potential of a club's fanbase.
Of course it makes a difference, travel is far cheaper from Reading for starters.

Never understood people slagging off wembley crowds personally because half of those are not proper supporters and probably never been to a football in their lives and only turn out for the occasion anyways.

Is an extra £20 really going to stop a fan from seeing their club at Wembley in one of the biggest games possible? I doubt it.

I didn't say it was totally irrelevant, but for a game of that magnitude, I think travel times/prices are far less of a decision maker/breaker than any other typical game.

Sorry mate, forgot people aren't used to sensible posts from someone under the name Walkley Owl. More used to your "humour" and being a pretentious number munching geek. UTO ☺
It wasn't sensible it was a shite dig for no reason.

What happened in 2012 when neither you or Hudders got close to selling out?

What you mean what happened , you just answered the question yourself. We were on the biggest downer possible after just gifting 2nd spot to Wednesday. Huddersfields following was pretty reasonable, 22k ish.

I never wish to step foot in Wembley again for a playoff game tbh.

I think all of them would sell it other than Huddersfield.

Definitely not, 40k?! I think that's more than a third of our population!
Most we've taken anywhere is 32k to Old Trafford, but the Championship play off final would be a seriously expensive day out.

Yes I know I wouldn't expect you to take that many at all, no doubt some people will call you're support pathetic when you don't though. I think you would just about muster 30k which would be a very good turnout. The way I see it anyway trips to Wembley are just full of pretend fans jumping on the bandwagon with clubs taking 15/20k more than they get for home games.

The extra 15/20k fans will be largely casual matchgoing fans who don't normally all go to the same match, not bandwagon jumpers who never go.

Exactly, I've already been asked if I can get my uncle and cousins tickets.

Only 2,000 tickets will be allocated to anyone coming to the Madejski in the play-offs.

Same for us, usual allocation of just under 2k. £20 a ticket, very good

We've sold season tickets in that stand for next season too so unless it's a cup game, no more 4k allocations for anyone.

17,522 season tickets sold, incredible for us, there must've been less than 10k home fans in attendance at our last home game just 12 months ago. This has been the first season since 1971 that we've averaged over 20,000, looks like it's going to be the new norm :)

2 n 6 (ask yer grandad)

They're filling a stadium that was once half full with home fans because they've priced it correctly, cannot fault them, how long it remains a sustainable business models remains to be seen.

Why was it pathetic, it was there 4th trip to Wembley and they still took about 10k more than what they were getting at home.
Pathetic was probably not the right word, but I still think there should have been more for a city the size of Hull. As for the 4th trip bit, yes I could understand it if it was the 4th trip in a few months but it wasn't, it was also on a weekend so I expected about 35k from Hull. So for me it was a poor number from them. Just shows Hull is still a rugby city even though the football club is as successful as it has ever been.

Perhaps the fall out with the owner had an effect? Looking at their gates in the top flight it seems to be

£199

We usually sold 9000 season tickets, but this was reducing a bit every year, so the increased crowds mean we're making more money from the reduced prices. We didn't rely on this happening though, Hoyle said it was possible due to the extra TV money this season. Any club that is increasing their prices should be demanding to know why.

They took less I think when we played them there in the fa cup semi, I'm sure they don't give a flying fuck as they beat us both. I personally don't think it's poor anyway as I said 10k more than average.

I'll settle for that if the same happens again in 6 years what happened 6 years after the 83/84 season. Days like that I don't think it can get any better.
