You don't pretend to not go, you just don't go. Clubs make more money from it than gate receipts hence they don't care whether you turn up or not.

Basically it depends on which comes out on top, a desire to see your club play every game vs the bigger picture of selling yours and the clubs soul to B teams happening down the road (though they claim this won't happen *wink wink*).

The vast majority of fans throughout the land chose the correct decision of staying away.

Newcastle U21s for us, Notts and Donny. Already dubbed THE GROUP OF BLACK AND WHITE STRIPES AND DONCASTER.

Remind us, did those 4 points help the play off push?
Yes, whereas I believe Cowley stated that you were tired after a long season when you crashed out in the play offs

End result, we are all still in the same division. Stags got a well deserved 4 points off us, we got fairly beaten by Exeter and won a trophy. Good luck to all in the coming season.
Our first ever visit to Wembley looked a lot better from the stands than it would have done from the supposed moral high ground inhabited by some.
For what it's worth, the competition has never really interested me, even before the PL dug their rancid claws into it. But I wouldn't have missed that day for the world.

Yeah was just thinking the competition has ALWAYS been poorly supported, very poorly in most cases. When it was the LDV then the JPT it's NEVER got good attendances until the area finals.

So most people that are 'boycotting' more than likely never went to these trophy games in the first place.

Adamstag couldn't contain his 'excitement' when Mansfield crashed out at the group stage after being turned over by our 2nd string with ease. Wish Mansfield didn't enter this year, got to listen to him falsely beg his side to lose games again.

Looking forward to defending our trophy.

We didn’t crash out in Group Stage, we lost on penalties at Blackpool.

8000 for our Northern semi final with Blackpool in 98 which was a home sell out, stuck the Blackpool fans in the corner so we could have more home fans in too, I’d say that’s a pretty good attendance.

Now that was a proper team. None of this flattening the opposition keeper in the first ten mins, escaping a red card and essentially cheating a trophy win. And certainly no limping out of the playoffs and whinging about being tired or that our big hardman up top doesn't get ref protection. 65 games I think our 97/98 lot played and they actually showed up and won the playoffs.

Yep I remember no one gave us a prayer against Keegans Fulham and their team of ex prem players but we proper did a job on them in the second leg, to be fair I'm not sure how we escaped with a 1-1 from the first leg as they battered us even with 10 men and we shouldn't even have still been in the tie after that but then in that second leg we were fantastic what a great night that was. :bg1:

Yep, maybe my favourite Town match of all time that one. I don't know if we would had won that if Peschisolido hadn't have tried to brutally assassinate Handyside. Him doing that was like someone flicking a switch in Blundell Park. Atmosphere cranked up to maximum and players absolutely bang on it - Fulham couldn't deal with it

Definitely the best atmosphere I've ever experienced at Blundell Park that night, even better than the Exeter title clincher in 1991 which had double the gate, that Fulham one I don't think will ever be bettered.

You've had to go back 20 years to find a good attendance. The competition has always been a dead rubber. Even the League Cup is now to most and that's prestigious compared.

I was pleased you won, and clearly - given the numbers who came - it was a bigger game for you than ourselves, which is cute.

B. S. I used to go to the old LDV matches, I haven't been to a single one since the checkatrade started. In the last seasonof the JPT there were over 9000 at Home Park when we played Argyle. Last season there were 3800.

No point in telling Impish to get his facts right, he only deals in 'facts' if it suits his own agenda.

Not really, there were 9000 at Argyle in 2015 and 7300 at Coventry in 2014 for round two games.

There is occasionally the right fact in there, somewhere - if you look hard enough.

That said, this ridiculous cup is at least better than the FA trophy *shudders*

I beg to differ, at least we visited somewhere new with the Trophy. I particularly remember with fondness trips to Billericay and Stamford! (Though losing to Grays 4-1 was a low)

we lost to some cracking sides - Matlock, Droylsden to name a few.

But at least the cup was genuine, and sides did take it seriously.

A couple of anomalies as they're big clubs. Odd that you think 7300 is a good attendance for Coventry anyway but there you are.

My point is the trophy has always been poorly supported on the whole, long before the under 21s introduction ...that's a FACT.

You're trying to argue that it was a well supported competition until the under 21s were introduced. Stop talking about your cup final at Plymouth and go find me a well attended early stage game at St James.

Nearly as cute as your play off push last season.

I've found two examples with out even trying. And shown you an identical match before and after Checkatrade. We had 729 when we played Swindon, our encounter with them in the previous incarnation had 2500 present.

Is 2500 a good attendance for you guys? Don't you average around 5000?

I’ll give you a C+ for that, quite witty for you, and you managed to get a fact correct too, so bonus marks there.
