Don't want to start all this big club bollocks again, but on what evidence? 1 year in the top flight in your whole history? Averaging above 20,000 ONCE at home in your entire history?

Sorry - not having that.

I suppose, historically, you *may* have a point. Although the below makes for interesting reading:

Average Attendances

(1889 - 1939)
Barnsley: 13,777
Bristol City: 20,745

(1947 - 1985)
Barnsley: 21,262
Bristol City: 26,575

(1986 - 2015)
Barnsley: 18,449
Bristol City: 16,816

Barnsley certainly have the edge on attendances in recent times.

League Performances

1st Division (years spent)
Barnsley: 1
Bristol City: 9

2nd Division (years spent)
Barnsley: 73
Bristol City: 47

3rd Division (years spent)
Barnsley: 22
Bristol City: 45

4th Division (years spent)
Barnsley: 10
Bristol City: 2

League Titles
Barnsley: 3
Bristol City: 5

Interesting one, this. Whilst Bristol City have spent more time in the top division, they've only spent just over half their existence (54%) in the top two divisions. Barnsley have spent 70% of their existence in the top two divisions. Bristol City edge it in league titles, however they (both) were mainly Division 3, so nothing to wank yourselves silly over.

Cup Performances

FA Cup
Barnsley: Winner (1), Runner Up (2), Semi Finals (3), Quarter Finals (4)
Bristol City: Winner (0), Runner Up (1), Semi Finals (2), Quarter Finals (3)

League Cup
Barnsley: Winner (0), Runner Up (0), Semi Finals (1), Quarter Finals (1)
Bristol City: Winner (0), Runner Up (0), Semi Finals (2), Quarter Finals (2)

Barnsley certainly have the edge here, having won the FA Cup and made 3 finals.

My verdict: Barnsley

Reason: Whilst historical attendances favour Bristol City, Barnsley come out on top in recent times. Barnsley have also spent the majority of their existence in the top two leagues, however Bristol City have almost spent half their existence in the bottom two leagues. Bristol City edge the league title count, but neither side has picked up a First Division title. Finally, Barnsley edge the Cup performances, having won an FA Cup and made 3 finals. Bristol City have only made it to the final on one occasion. I refuse to accept anyone winning the JP fucking T / Auto fucking Windscreen Trophy as evidence of club stature - you're in that competition because you're shit. The Yorkies win it by the girth of a nat's pube.

That attendance goes up to 2009, our recent attendances have averaged better than theirs.

I disagree - we've finished runners up in the 1st division, and had 9 divisions there in equivalent to Barnsley's 1, and that 'bottom 2 divisions' statement looks worse than it is, because we've actually only spent two years in L2, and the rest in L1, whereas Barnsley spent 10 in L2.

And if we're going historically with attendances as well, Barnsley averaged a mere 6k the year they won the FA Cup.

You have to take more into account rather than just leagues, you have to look at positions, lengths of time, average attendances in the past and averages attendance now, and on every playing field (barring Barnsley's lengthy period in the second tier) we come out on top every time.

And out comes my favourite word as well - potential. Barnsley are a club surrounded by a fuck load of teams in Yorkshire, whereas we're a two club City which is the 5th biggest in England, and have a massive catchment area, and the other club in the City being utter dross.

Not sure what other people think, but I personally believe an FA Cup win before the end of the 2nd World War isn't worth talking about - Sorry Barnsley/

What about 2 of them?

Plus, the FA Cup actually meant something back then and the top teams actually took it seriously.

They are not the average attendences those figures are the highest idividual attendence they had for 1 season in that period.

Oh, two is fine :smug:.

I know what you mean about it being worth something back then, but things have changed.

The City of Bristol gets less than 25k combined from 440k, that's not great by any stretch.

It's hardly surprising - Rovers have been shite for many a year, and haven't really achieved anything of note, and we haven't been in the top flight since the early 80's.

The potential is there although - we proved that at Wembley when all the part-timers from Bristol come out too play.

This thread was started on Mar 9, 2015. I am just replying to the thread as of that date, so the table is relevant.

Oh dearie me. Why don't you look at the table again and think about it a bit more. Sort of exercise those neurons a bit. Why would I list a table like that? Because I no (sic) nowt about football? Instead of knee-jerking and swearing yourselves into frenzies, settle down and THINK. Use some logic and instead of thinking people think like you do, laterally gather your thoughts and put yourself into the table and try and work it out. There is an answer in there as to why the table looks like that.

The teams that have come equal to each other are all part of the Fibonacci sequence. Or possibly excess beer??

Can't be by population. Can't be age either. Not home nor away attendance either. Can't be value of team. Has to be something for which there can be exact numbers and a 1 in 8 chance of two clubs having the same 'score'. Can't be points or cumulative points because Sheff Utd are high on that and Orient are comparatively low.
The clue must be something to do with Fleetwood being mid-table because they've only been in the division one season. And it has to be something to do with whatever has already happened otherwise it should have been easy to compile this list for the coming season.....
