The Wednesday
Sheff United are the biggest, no contest there. Coventry second and probably would be biggest if they drew in similar sized crowds.

Bradford, Preston, Bristol City and us are all very similar, hard to place one above the other. Depends what aspect you view as most important. Recent history it's probably us, past history Preston, current crowds Bradford and Bristol City, and they probably have the most potential for growth based on population size. All have similar sized stadiums and facilities. MK Dons have tons of potential as well and draw in crowds similar to us and Preston.

After that I'd place Donny, Posh, Vale, Gillingham at a push together and Crawley and Fleetwood are obviously the two smallest in the division. As for the rest, god knows.

Basically you agree with me :D

Seems so! Be interesting if Wednesday were down here this season. Reckon United would still edge it . . .

I thought all new houses along the Medway valley came with a free Charlton season-ticket? Two if they fall behind with the mortgage payments.

Bit harsh on Ramsgate, they could well beat the window-lickers.

We've been in a European Final (as have Notts County) surely that makes us more massive!

We beat Rangers over two legs in a very localised 'European' competition and went on to lift the trophy. We are still the holders in fact as so awe inspiring was our win they retired the competition on the spot.

Jesus, that's poor for you guys. Do you reckon you'd pull in 15,000+ if you had a season where you were top 6 all season (I'm aware that's not happened for about 40 years)? Or has the interest just evaporated?

A lot of Coventry fans would say yes but I'm not convinced we would, I'd say around 10-12k even then I don't say that with much conviction as I've lost faith in our fans. I'm not even convinced we would get 15k again if we were back in the championship. They would all probably turn out for one day on the play off semi final though and sing city till I die.

I'm probably not the best person to ask, as I'm in a I hate our fans mode at the moment.

Just remembering when you pulled in 30,000 for the JPT regional final vs Crewe whenever that was, and obviously the Gillingham game earlier this season. It's a shame that so many have deserted the club. SISU really do want wiping off the face of the earth.

A few years ago I went Coventry vs Leeds with a mate just after Leeds got promoted from League One and Coventry got 28,000 that day, I know 6,500 were from Leeds but still 21-22K in the home ends was very good I thought.

To see only a third of that home support coming regularly now is very disappointing for a club that are capable of getting big gates as shown against us, what gates do you reckon Coventry would get in League Two?

The problem you will have is when they went to Northampton people who didn't go then found they had different things to do on a Saturday and got used to life without football on a Saturday, thus the damage done is long terms and a lot may never return. Sadly the heart of that club has been torn away.

No idea really, probably 5k with the way things are going. Next year we will be down to 6-7k even if we are in L1 I think.

Wasps move hasn't helped either, it just gives people another excuse to not support the football with an alternative sports club to watch and we know the people of Coventry only need the slightest excuse to not turn up.

I swear some of our so called fans are going to Wasps matches over Coventry just to spite SISU with a haha see what you could have had attitude.

The move to Northampton accelerated the dwindling crowds, City (in my lifetime) have always been a 13-20k club with the odd gates above that, now they've been through the mill and lacking anything remotely regarded as success coupled with increasing prices they've seen the hardcore figures drop even further.

I don't get who in their right mind would want to watch Rugby Union. Amount of high kicking and hoofing that goes on in that sport you might as well get a season ticket at West Brom. Bloody people of Coventry.

Mind you Wasps are handing out a load of freebies, when they stop doing that attendances will surely plummet.

No idea, Coventry Rugby Club could barely break over 1k in attendance and suddenly we have 15k massive Rugby fans at the Ricoh every week. Was at the Ricoh last night and saw a kid drawing/colouring a Wasps badge in a notepad and it made me sad.

Yea there are still loads of freebies/offers on, will be interesting what the crowd settle at within 2-3 years.

This was on our forum last night.

Just look at the last time each club had a good season. A good season being: winning a trophy, finishing in the play offs or automatic promotion places, qualifying for Europe. I think this says it all:

Arsenal 2014

Wow, even Stockport can argue they had a good season in 2008, that's alarming.

Obviously, it only looks into a 'good season' but if I am honest, the thing that drives attendances up the most is success. Take that JPT game for example, Mickey Mouse cup, and we sell 32,000 tickets... We are desperate!

That for me is why no one can argue about why Portsmouth's crowds being significantly higher than ours.

15 of those years were spent in the top flight though, which is far more more successful than, for example, finishing in the league 2 playoffs

Pricey tickets is bull, its the same for everyone. We are probably equal to or better than most in this league.

The price of football being too high in general is a different discussion, but prices isn't why we have low attendances in comparison with others as pricing structure are pretty similar across the whole of the football league.

Apparently fans got fed up of finishing bottom half in the top flight I heard the other day

In a modern day world if Coventry kept limping to Premier League survival they'd have stayed up every year and sold out their ground every week because they'd probably break their transfer record every season to sign an international striker who scored 20+ in a European backwater like West Brom and Sunderland do.

But in the 90s the Premier League lacked the financial power of Serie A, there were rarely marquee signings for the smaller clubs in the top flight and the attitude was pretty much the norm of any stagnant football club lower down in the football pyramid, attendances would decline if no progress in the league or in the squad was being made.
