Success is decided by money, that much is clear. You can be the biggest club in the world but if you've got no money you will struggle.

Unfortunately, you are spot on SBE and that's from a supporter of a club that does have a very rich owner.

There's always the new stadium factor too. Unless your Coventry or Colchester clubs often benefit from a massive increase in gates upon the move to a new stadium that makes them look bigger than they historically are. Chesterfield, Rotherham and Shrewsbury to name a few.
And us.....

Somebody should tell our club that. Doubt we've had below a top2 budget since we've been down here.

You will be back in the championship soon enough.

Every season ive thought, we'll get promoted this season. Fair enough we're obviously in a less depressing situation as yourselves but 'kin hell its depressing constantly being the biggest or 2nd biggest in the league and struggling to get out of it.

Blackpool/Millwall I expect to not contest for the title next year, Wigan if they go down will be dangerous (still have parachute payments?) So the teams coming down will be less danger than those going up I would expect.

We'll be bottom 6. 100%. Lee Clarks tikka takka football won't work down there with some of Stockport Counties released select.

Good football doesn't stop you getting results in league 1, I remember when we last in the league before this stint and now, the standard is generally a lot better.

We play a sort of football where we don't want to score, shoot or get into the opponents half? We've had about 3 shots on target in 6 games.

The worst championship team ever.

Honestly believe next season will be the most wide open League One since possibly Bristol City's last promotion in 2006-07. Wigan and the two/three bottlejobs in the top 5 will compete for promotion with most of the league having a look at the playoffs next season.

Think the promoted sides in League Two could all go down next year as well, that league has declined in quality significantly since attacking sides like us, Swindon, Gillingham, Vale and Rotherham all got out of it and decent goalscorers are at a premium none of the clubs down below could simply afford.

We'd have to have a massive turn around. Genuinely think wed have to get rid of Clough for that to happen which I cant see the board doing, they've invested too much in him. Reason I think Clough needs to go is (as he's admitted) the players confidence is rock bottom and (which he obviously wouldn't admit!) he doesn't have a way of getting them out of it. One of his comments after Saturday was "we plod on".

Despite our shocking start to last season we've only got 6 more points than this stage last season which is shocking and indicative of how even (or poor) the league is this year that we still sit in 5th!

Hope you're right though!

I just don't get why Clough has stockpiled a load of defenders and purchased unproven forwards. Your squad looks like it lacks balance on paper.

Its totally bizzare, the number of cm's we have as well is weird when we barely have any wingers (and one of them he's just loaned out to Notts Co!). In the summer he said he wanted a couple of quality additions to push us up. Instead he's signed god knows how many players, its ridiculous and our wage bill must be absolutely massive. Off the top of my head since the end of last season...

Butler
McGahey
Basham
Alcock
Freeman
Brayford
McEveley (loan)
CB on loan from QPR whose name escapes me
Turner
So that's 8 defenders and 1gk

JCR
Davies
Coutts
Holt (loan with a view)
J. Wallace
K. Wallace
Adams
5cm's and 2wide players (arguably 3 with Adams)

Upfront:
Higdon
Done
McNulty
Davies (loan with a view)
Re-signed Porter

That's a total of 21 new players. So much for quality over quantity.

Out of those probably only Adams and K.Wallace wouldn't have expected to be signed and not start. Its no surprise we don't look like we know what we're doing, he's signed one player less than Fleetwoods entire squad in the space of about 6months. Its madness.

A single unitary authority for urban Dorset
Portsmouth are no bigger than City, Preston or Bradford

I would agree with this, as someone local to them. A fiercely loyal fanbase, but not particularly massive.

Coventry would hold the top spot for L1 massiveness IMHO, Sheffield United and Preston behind.

Maybe it's just my era but Bristol City have spent plenty of seasons in L1 during my time. Whilst clearly they are a good sized club with good support and potential, I wouldn't say they look particularly out of place in L1.

If Bournemouth were included we'd certainly be mixing it with Doncaster, Oldham and Peterborough, few clubs are more 'third tier' than Bournemouth, as much as we're trying to change it.

I think we should add what celebs follow our clubs. That'll truly show how big some of us are.

We're MASSIVE (according to Wikipedia):

Jim Marshall (RIP) - Founder Of Marshall Amplification
Dan Wheldon (RIP) - Racing Driver
Darren Gough (Barnsley fan but watches our games) - Cricketer
James Hildreth - Cricketer
James Foster - Cricketer
Frank Bruno - Boxing World Champion
Gail Emms - Badminton World Champion
Craig Pickering - 100m Sprinter
George Webley (RIP) - Radio Broadcaster
Mikey Burrows - Sky Sports Radio Presenter

Coventry have such a massive potential in terms of fan base. Unlike Bristol and Sheffield, we are a one club city and actually have a large catchment area in Warwickshire.

Just a shame so much rubbish has gone on. Wasps are getting about 17,000 regularly now.

SFs right how many other teams have been referenced in a Wallace and Gromit short, a sign of true greatness

You can all feck off, we've got Rik Waller, a chairman called Scally and make away fans sit in the cold on some scaffolding. Massiveness.
