I think he was really after a move in January, but with the position we were in it would have been stupid for Askey to let him go. He suffered with our massive slump in form thru Jan and Feb and never really got going again, even having Styche preferred to him in the starting XI towards back end of the season.

Not sure he's L1 level, but then L2 might have been too physical for him so could work out better.

We've signed Kai Edwards, a central defender from TNS in the Welsh Premier League.

He's regularly touted as one of the best players in the WPL, a CB who can play a bit, and has represented Wales in junior age groups. He was a Wrexham youth player but we binned him off.

Always unsure about WPL players but willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Only 25 as well.

We didn't bin him off, he binned us off. We offered him a contract, but he turned it down to take the coin at Neath with Fatty Trundle and Kristian O'Leary.

There is a stigma about WPL players, but I don't think you can generalise. People have been raving about him for a while.

You're right, just saw on RP. Chasing the (short lived) Neath gravy train. I couldn't really remember the circumstances of his leaving but I do remember he was high rated at the time.

I don't really watch the WPL but TNS do have players who could play at our level. Finlay was decent and Czielewicz could do a job at our level. Look forward to seeing him play.

I had an account on this before but lost my log in details, so I've made a new account (as you can see)

I don't see anything wrong with this signing. Finally a centre half who is built for this league and even if he's not first choice he's going to be decent cover! He'd also suit Mills' style of play as everytime I've seen TNS play, every single player was good on the ball.

Askey's faith in constantly playing him through those months was one of the reasons we were poor in my opinion. He's a decent player at this level, but given that he has only scored 2 league goals since 28th December, and that once he was finally dropped and replaced by Styche in the team we went 9 games unbeaten, he is nowhere near L1 level.
I thought he'd end up at somewhere like Eastleigh, and if we can only have one striker on reasonable money to fit within the budget, given how poor he was for half a season, it would have been a risk for a club like us paying him decent money.
All in all, he's done very well to get a move to L1 and I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up back in the Conference within a year or two.

I watch the WPL a fair bit and Kai is streets ahead of anyone, but it's such a big step up to playing Conference football 3 times in a week from strolling round for TNS winning 5-0 every week. It's a good signing for me purely because he can play CB, RB or in midfield. I don't think he's the answer to our CB issue if Mills is thinking of pairing him with Fyfield we might as well admit now that it won't be good enough.

Sam Finley has potential to go far, no idea why we didn't do a proper deal for him. If he comes up with Fylde next season he will be a good player at this level.

How about we take Fyfield of your hands so you don't have to worry about that ;)

When do you want him? I'll drive him.
are you trying to say his two best performances this season were against us and was shit the rest of the year?
because he looked class against us - far better that the now released Smith....

He looked class in our home game v Wrexham but only after we'd scored three in the 1st 25 minutes and then we sat behind the ball for the whole second half. He had all the time in the world then to travel with the ball. All a bit too late though. Horse and bolt springs to mind.
We scored three in the away fixture too which is unbelievable when you consider our major problem ladt season was scoring goals!

Fyfield is a decent player but has a tenancy to go missing now and again. As if he turned off his brain for a second.

Of the two Smith is a far superior player.

Jason Walker is available if you need goals - he's probably played with Boyes before when Boyes was at Barrow

Fyfield is ok. He's a National League defender at the end of the day. He will make mistakes and perform stray passes but he will also have excellent games and perform superb passes. For me, he didn't have great partners alongside him this season, especially Smith. We were oddly stronger at the back when Smith was moved to right back for a few games and it was Hudson and Fyfield in the centre.

Fyfield is good on the ball and he has decent pace and generally wins his battles when up against someone direct. Though I think because he is left footed it gives the impression that he is technically better than he is, the old 'left footers look easier on the eye when on the ball'.

His problem is concentration and positioning, the guy is hardly ever in the right place when a goal is scored. He doesn't make too many errors that are glaring as he's always a second away from where he needs to be to stop it.

Wtf happened to Manny Smith? Gone from being one of the best CBs in the division in 14/15 to getting released ahead of Fyfield at the end of 15/16?

Danny Rowe has signed a new contract today so that's now eight players signed up now. Everything seems to be falling into place at the moment with our best players committing themselves to the club early on. After some uncertainty about competing next season I think we'll be fine now.

oOur first news of the summer as Dan Bradley has just signed a new two year deal with us. Absolutely fucking delighted with that. Beginning to feel more positive ahead of next season now. Dan is a great lad and is clearly very loyal which is rare nowadays.

Also heard Niall Heaton has signed a new deal too.

Bradley just seems to be shit scared of moving away from Alfreton rather than loyal - the whole Barnet thing was weird and he won't make the step up with a team closer to home either.

Oh well good news for Alfreton I suppose but I don't see you challenging.

Yeah from what I have heard Dan was very unsure and was really tempted to join Lincoln but for one reason or another, whether that is loyalty or not he has chosen to stay with us! Should we keep the bulk of last years squad with One or two signings in the right areas and cut out conceding the late goals there is no reason whatsoever as to why we should challenge for the play-offs. Next year looks much stronger though so Im not so sure we would qualify for the play-offs.

Disappointed to have lost Mark Ross to Stockport, got a good player there. Very reliable at RB, or CB, played every minute for us last season. Good news we have two new full backs signed from Southport in Challoner and Blakeman and have got Sefton Gonzalez in from Clitheroe, who I rate very highly.

Good move for him, Newcastle is a decent night out.

Edit: 2 year deal, fucking hell. No wonder he snapped it up straight away.

I wonder if maybe Lincoln cooled on it a bit with a new manager on the way, no guarantee that Cowley would have liked him so maybe in his eyes better to get re-signed to a club that he knows inside out?
