I know for a fact your highest earner last season was on £1,500/week. A lot of people on this forum like to exaggerate the budgets and player salaries of teams in this league. Macc haven't had any player on above £600/week for years, I would say a reasonably high paid salary at this level is £750/week and above. For the teams with larger budgets such as FGR, Eastleigh, Grimsby etc the majority of the players will be on around £750-£900/week and there will be the odd few players approaching £1,200-1,500/week. At the lower end, contracts are often 40/44 weeks, even for some full time teams, and the majority of players are often on £350-400/week and maybe a few standout players in the team on £500-600/week.

Eastleigh are blowing League teams away with their wage offerings. I know for a FACT that Matt Tubes was being paid £3k p/w last season, and they offered Andy Cook about that this summer. God knows what they were paying Dan Harding.

I don't know what Eastleigh are paying people, and if true, that is absolutely ridiculous!

Edit - I know one of their strikers who has been with them throughout their spell in the Conference is paid £1,400/week, so the above may well be true.

Hahaha .. you've obviously got no idea. He's not on anything like that. Our biggest earners are Parky & Carter and neither are on that.

You sound very certain on that? :pond:

I'm sure estimated wages are inflated, let's face it very few people will know the ins and outs of players contracts. I also suspect that clubs like FGR offer a lot of incentive on top of base wage. Hockadays FGR was regularly reported to be paying very high wages. Danny Wright turned down an apparent contract of 1.5k a week to "double his wage" at FGR. Mangan was apparently on 3k as well last time he was there. That was widely reported.

Possibly just pie in the sky but no less ludicrous than believing that players like Jon Parkin are happy to relocate to Gloucestershire to play for a relatively small club (just to keep using FGR as an example) for 700 quid a week and a firm belief in veganism and environmental sustainability.

With Tubbs, that's 100% definite - and they paid a six figure fee to take him on loan too! It's widely stated that they offered Cook exactly double what we are offering.

Walker was on £750 basic wage (friend of a friend does the accounts for the club), which I think was our highest before this summer.

Yes spot on, though not sure about Eastleigh.

BS about the Tubbs fee and salary.
A small fee to take him yes, then his salary. Yes it was a big salary, but not 3k.
Incidently, it was the same money he was on at Pompey.

Yeah but it's obviously working for them, a 7th place finish in the National League after being destroyed in the play off Semi's the year previous, money well spent.......

Well you believe what you want, Mr Vision - I know those to be facts, so I'm quite content in the knowledge your club is pissing money up the wall.

Michael Rankine rejects terms to stay at Alty. Not a surprise IMO, I couldn't see him wanting to drop into the obscurity of regional football. Still, a pity, he did well in a struggling team.

Don't be surprised if he ends up here.

Maybe. A couple of people on the Alty forum have got stuck into him since he announced his departure. He certainly got slower and larger towards the end of the season, but he was a decent signing IMO.

No doubt Alty Pieman will be on soon to disagree with me.

That's his level though.

Overweight and past it, not that he was ever that great anyway. Seen him up against us lots of times down the years and he's always been big and physical, but usually ineffective and shit. Surely Wrexham can do better?

Wouldn't get anywhere near our bench. Reeves on the other hand I've always rated. You've done well to keep him.

I think if we were going to sign Rankine we'd have done it last season.

One thing Mills has done is continually confound people trying to predict hos signings. A few players signing this week apparently, I'm sure there will be a few surprises.

We made Rankine look good at Altrincham's place but Wrexham can do a lot better than him. Relegation/lower bottom-half striker in this division.

Rankine and Southport are made for each other. Was at us early in his career and was always good off the bench. Surprised everyone when he then signed for Scunthorpe and lined up against Chelsea on the telly.
Has been crap whenever he's faced us since.

Totally agree, how you can get the size he was and expect to play even near your best is a joke, and it never fails to surprise me just how many porkers there are in the league, bringing experience is one thing but equally important surely is for the club signing them to see their contract with weight watchers before doing so
