I'm expecting a prime Steven Gerrard type midfield performance next Saturday based on this Telford friendly.

Wrexham's midfield must be the smallest in the division by an absolute country mile.

I didn't think they'd do much this season but fair play to Wrexham in securing the title with that win over Telford.

'Pre-season title'. Hand it over Grimsby.

If we play Barry and Evans then yes quite possibly, but if we play Edwards instead of Evans (which we should), no.

If only we still had Johnny 'Man Mountain' Hunt pulling the string in our midfield, or whatever he does (I've never noticed)

Can someone provide highlights to this Telford match? Dont want to miss out on such a performance.

Ugh, don't get me started.

Not sure what role he plays this year. McCarthy's taken him out from left back at least. Reckon he'll start away games as a defensive minded left midfielder.

Hunt at Left back was the best I saw him play for us in the FA Trophy final vs Grimsby, that's his position.

Cost us in that position last season along with Higgins on the other side. Horwood and Vassell are definite improvements there.

Hunt appears to be just tolerated by the majority if anything, doesn't get much stick or praise. Consistently average.

That's a perfect summation. I can't remember him ever doing anything bad for us and he always gave full effort but he didn't have much else to offer. Needless to say he never repeated his FA Trophy final performance..

Spot on. He is rarely terrible. Just has nothing that he does particularly well. He's generally pretty disciplined so in our worst season he did add a bit of shape to our team when he played. You probably should have got rid tbh.

I do worry about Chester. You look very inexperienced in key positions. Joking aside I don't want Chester to go down, not unless we go up anyway.

Should be a good signing for you. Seem to remember him getting a fair few goals for Gateshead a couple of years ago
He will murder the North. He accepted an offer from us and his agent our former assistant Gary Owers he had Kilmarnock and Northampton lined up. Owers advised to rip the contract up.
He came back asking for the same contract and we wouldn't.

Well done Owers you complete Arse

Yeah, you don't win anything with short arses, but we did get 98 points once with probably the smallest midfield in the league.

Kai Edwards is over 6 foot by the way and he seems to be first choice to play alongside Barry at the moment.

I'm pretty content to be honest, think we'll do ok. I've been impressed with McCarthy so far, I think he's got something about him. Although relatively inexperienced the squad he's put together looks the most balanced for a few years.

As nice a bloke as Burr is, and we had some good days with him, he'd started to lose the plot and was making it up as he went along in the end. Playing players out of position and switching formations every five minutes. It does feel like we've got someone who knows what he's doing again now. We'll see anyway.

I suppose with such a young team it could go one of two ways. Either they fail to deal wih the rigours of senior football or its thw making of them and you end up with the bones of a very good squad. We did that (out of necessity ) in the early 90s amd that team was the mainstay if the rest if the decade and very nearly made it into the Championship. I know a few of your youngsters are quite highly rated. I doubt McCarthy had much option really, seems a decent bloke so good luck to him.

Stretches the budget out, older more established players who are married with kids and a mortgage are going to demand more money. As you pretty much said, not much choice really, it's the way we have to do it.

Great acquisition. I didn't quite understand our fans' fascination over Caton (not for the first time it has to be said) - he was alright but he wasn't the division-beater he was made out to be.

Arnold has a track record of being with sides promoted from this level, so a step in the right direction for sure.

Pleased with that. He'll offer a bit more from a defensive point of view than Caton would have done, whilst still being a threat going forward.

Obviously disappointed but thats a great signing for Lincoln

Craig Clay would be decent also. Always played well against us (and for us) whenever I saw him.

I'd like Clay. He'd suit the Cowley's in that he's a bit of a tireless workhorse, but a pacey centre back has got to be our next target (if there's any money left!)

I'm guessing with the 3 that have signed in last couple of days that we are now more or less done.

Just to see whether Mills offers Jordan Evans anything.

I've seen a few stupid comments from people who think the 3 positions DC wants filling are being funded by not signing Caton!
