We’ve not had much success signing people from down here, Jamie Reid from Torquay is our new Adi Yussuf this season.

He’s only gotta get in front of Danny Rose, Andy Cook and Nicky Maynard:bl:

Get Yussuf settled and playing regularly and you might have a good goalscorer. He cannot offer much else though, at least from what I have witnessed, if he’s not scoring he can be a bit of a passenger.

Schoolboy error. Do you reckon he’s the replacement for Dennis?

In my time supporting Notts we’ve probably signed hundreds of foreign players. You could probably count on one hand the number who’ve been any good. I‘d say that goes for the lower leagues in general. Makes sense, players often have difficulty settling into new clubs anyway, without the extra aggro around moving countries. Particularly when the resources aren’t there to make life as comfortable as it is in the PL or Champ.

The bookies have us and Stockport down as favourites for the league, means fuck all, but I’m preferring their recruitment.

I don’t think we’ve tried to replace Dennis (or will) as I’m not sure Ardley ever really rated hugely, and if we wanted him that much we’d have just trigged his third year rather than trying to renegotiate terms. Sam looks like cover for Wootton, to me.

I don’t mind our recruitment as I think we’re in the bizarre position (for us anyway) of basically being set. The only position I think we really needed a proper, proven signing was in central midfield to replace Rose, and I think Reeves is a fairly big upgrade there.

Otherwise I’m happy for us to try the moneyball type approach with Rodrigues, Sloth and Sam. I don’t think any of them will start as first choice, so they’ll have to be good to break into the team.

Just got to hope they are less Civard Sprockel and more Gil Swearts

Dean Moxey signs for Torquay. Should be an excellent signing for them. Better at CB rather than LB nowadays. Wish him all the best.

I’m sceptical... anyone can look good on YouTube.

we also have lost two players who were good for us last season in Mitch Rose and Dennis.

casper has barely played football in the last two years... Rodrigues has been in the Dutch second league and Sam in the Bulgarian premier league...

it might be some sort of money ball genius but it could easily be 2015 again which let’s be honest was a big part of our decline

Hold on a second. Mitch Rose was good for us last season? That's a pretty rose tinted view, he was outplayed in midfield by O'Brien and Doyle all season long bar a few games.

Dennis I would agree with, although away from home he often went MIA. He will missed be missed

Rose was hard done by from our fans generally IMO, decent player and had a better season than O’Brien for me, and Doyle up until January time when the latter started playing much better.

Was an obvious area where we could improve, though.

Just shows how different fans view our midfield. He was nowhere near the level of JOB (pre or post injury) or Doyle in my eyes. Doyle was the midfielder unfairly treated by the fans.

Started ok but bar the odd game he got worse and worse as the season went on. Does some decent work off the ball, breaking up opponents attacks. Yet I've not seen a regular Notts player get caught in possession and misplace so many passes for quite a while. When he gave the ball away, it was so often in dangerous areas of the pitch and put us in worlds of trouble.

Need better if we want promotion. Real shame cos I thought he would excel at this level after he impressed in our relegation season from L2.

Typically we've signed him to play left back!

From memory he's a bit if an arsehole (on the pitch) which is certainly something we could have done with last season to balance all our naive youngsters.

Guess he'll be suspended to start the season after his Wembley red card.

He can still do a good job at left back, after all it’s the position he knows best. It depends on how you want your full backs to play...If you want them to play without pushing up too much then he will be great, however if you’re looking to have attacking full backs then he could get exposed.

I wouldn’t say he’s an arsehole on the pitch although he does have a bit of an edge. Having said that he was a total c*** in the play off final getting a straight red, which was a pretty bad way to end his ECFC playing career...

I think the way we play highlighted Roses limitations. Lots of misplaced passes, few assists, happiest getting stuck in. As you say Reeves of fit should be a step up.
I would expect two of our three foreign imports to be playing regularly.

Yup agreed - I think that was our one big flaw last season, midfield was a bit predictable and similar. Doyle and Rose often tried to do the same job when playing together, we generally looked better in there with Booty playing actually.

The differences between this and 2015 when Ricardo Moniz signed a load of foreign players are chiefly a) we’ve only signed 3, only one of whom (Rodrigues) will probably be a regular starter come Oct 3, as opposed to Moniz who signed half a new first XI from the continent, and b) these appear to have been properly researched.

As others have said, we retained the core of last seasons with Reeves as (hopefully) an upgrade on Rose.

We signed a UEFA Cup winner in Christian Gyan, played two games for us in the FA Trophy, was a worst right back than Jazzi Barnum Bobb, and then buggered off

you gotta love a Dean Saunders signing

Gutted, the lad is quality, far, far too good for non league.

We don't need to say it, we all know, $tockport are GOING FOR IT.

Stockport have paid a fee which automatically rules us out. If we knew early on that a substantial fee was needed then we should’ve just got Duckworth.

Donaldson at right back is the only option at the minute and he’s a midfielder. Don’t know what else is available who’s of Southam Hales or even Duckworth’s standard. I’d say DC will be massively gutted he’s missed out.

Thats bollocks. We sign a half decent right back and suddenly we're favourites? Not at all.

I'd take play-offs if you offered them me right now.

It's the only way Donaldson gets in the team, had a few defensive trialist's against the Mags, no idea who they were, Tyler Hamilton was one and I got told Connor Thomson ex Gateshead was another, could be incorrect though.

Haway Stocky, I know you love a wind up, Stockport are comfortable favourites with the signings you've made this season and the close of last season.

We'll be in and around the play-offs. Lets see how much of a wind up it is as the season progresses. There are some well equipped teams in this division.

One warning, I will be using the word "Project" a lot this season. I've just decided. It'll be "project" this and "project" that win, lose or draw. So bear that in mind.

I’d moved away by the time Hamilton was on loan. Any good? He’s a winger so that would push Donaldson to RB, but I wouldn’t have him there, he’s okay there for the last 20 mins after a reshuffle but 1st choice? If that’s the case we can prepare for another mediocre season. I know he’s the captain but square pegs in round holes and all that. You have him as a winger or nowhere IMO.

Hamilton was pretty skilful if not a bit raw, Challinor barely played him when he was here, always sat on the bench and had 20 min cameos, I think wide players are the last thing we need, currently have Molyneux, Donaldson, Ofosu, MacDonald, unless he's cheap and happy to be an understudy dunno where he'd fit in.

On Donaldson you're right, we need another fullback like Kioso/MSH, someone who bombs forward, can take on his man and get crosses in and he isn't it.
