Those signed early doors are often decent players signed early to beat the competition but also desperate players who take the first offer they get as they know they might not get anything else. Those signed late are also often decent players, who know their worth and haven't committed to anything too early as they hold out for better deals but can also be the dregs that clubs have to settle for.

In summary, the time you sign a player has no bearing on their likely quality.

Anyway the chances are these players have been in the bag for a while, Johnson has this thing about last minute unveilings, we often only find out we have a new signing an hour before kick off even though they've been training with us for a week or more.

We don't have a budget to compare to the big hitters in this league so don't expect to be blown away.

Total lack of any leaks out of our club these days so no I have no idea and seemingly neither does anyone else down here! Not even any rumours which is most unusual.

The only news we've had has been from Hartlepool fans on here who reckon Luke Molyneaux is one of them.

Oh and our keeper coach left yesterday on the same day as Cheltenham's, so assuming he worked under Johnson I guess Steve Book might be joining the coaching team.

With a month to go, pre-season is chugging along nicely at The Shay despite what the 2 drama queens like to present on here (Christ, you should see the shit they post on our home forum!). Expect the leavers to be seamlessly replaced with equivalent or better. Wild knows his football, unlike those 2 clowns.

Yeah definitely. And after being in League 1 with Burton last year his head has probably swelled even further.

He's not that far down really. Quigley is to replace Cardwell who went back to Chorley and Bennett who we let go. We've still got less strikers now than we finished last season with. Reid will have plenty of minutes here. Wouldn't be that arsed if he went though, I don't think he's that good really.

Cardwell is actually a shout for Halifax. I could see that link up if I was playing National League cupid. Chorley wanted a decent fee for him though and he's not worth what they quoted. They might have just tried to milk us though knowing we had some cash to spend. It backfired on them because he was pretty poor last 1-2 months.

I always thought Cardwell was a midfielder though? He looked a handful but he was playing with better players at Stockport than he would be with us.
