Wealdstone fans, how have Matt Buse and Josh Umerah looked in friendlies?

Similarly, Halifax fans, how about Billy Waters? Also, seems like you've only had three friendlies, what's the deal there?

Stockport County.
Boreham Wood have signed Scott Boden. Decent signing that, I was wondering where he'd end up he looked decent against us for Torquay last season.

Could very easily score between and 10 and 15 goals with the right service.BW spending their 250k wisely as SB will be as cheap as chips

Waters been solid so far. Looked lively in the friendlies against Farsley and Guiseley. Our friendly last Saturday against Fylde was called off due to 1 covid case in our squad. We’ve got friendlies on Friday and Tuesday to finish our pre-season off.

Wild wanted a light pre season this time around as he felt we overworked the players last pre-season and picked up several key long term injuries heading into the season.

Buse has looked decent and will definitely start next week. Umerah is how’s he’s been described by the Gulls fans, he’s not going to score a lot goals, but is quite a handful so creates opportunities for others. He’s been pinged so missed the last two games.

Boden looks a good signing for Boreham Wood, very tidy record at this level. Could easily replace most of Tshimanga’s goals if he fits in.

Boden is a good striker at this level, he has a footballing brain and good technique but a heart the size of a pea.

You can tell within the first 5 minutes of a game whether he’s interested that day or not.

You’ve described his time at Halifax to a tee. Such a frustrating player as you can clearly see the ability is there but doesn’t have the attitude to match it on a consistent basis.

He's a funny old player. I've obviously seen a lot of him over the years so feel qualified to comment. The guy scores goals, he's never really failed to, but when you watch him you never get the impression you're watching a really good player, you know? I feel he's got a good sense of where to be sometimes, but there's large parts of his game he just can't do and appears invisible a lot of the time. I mean, according to Wiki he scored 20 odd goals in 50 odds games for us last stint, but I don't think I can remember a single one of them or remember a game where he just 'owned' it. You look bit daft criticising a player with his goalscoring record but he's just not a game changing, explosive effectual player for me. I don't think I'm articulating this very well, but yea, basically I don't feel he's the player his stats suggest

Good to hear about Waters, Umerah and Buse, I hope they all do well with the obvious caveats. Waters, especially, such a frustrating player but there is talent there, just needs a good run as the main man at this level and he could end up being next year's Paul Mullin.

Boden, I was surprised we didn't offer him anything as he has a knack for getting in the right place at the right time, and he really did seem enthusiastic about playing for us. He's a proper striker, he doesn't need to be skilful or explosive, put the ball in the box enough and he'll tap most in the net. If you ever played Football Manager, he's the striker with '12s' in the stats that matter. By contrast, Waters probably has some '20s' and some '1s' and they randomise with every game.

That's funny because I always see his name and think 'he'll score goals' but I rarely remember him when Daggers play against one of his sides. Not sure he'll work for Boreham Wood who do like to play quite conservatively but perhaps they'll sign someone a bit more explosive to play alongside him. Andrade and Boden could be an interesting combo. Almost forgot they have Tyrone Marsh as well who's decent at this level.

Really weird case, innit. He had one decent season with us, then you nicked him, but had to pay compensation, then months later he returned to us and clearly didn't give a toss and has since drifted into obscurity. Amazingly he's not even 30! Just goes to show there are plenty of skilful wingers at this level and if they get too ahead of themselves, a future in the Shoe & Glue leagues awaits.

Hurst signed Hearn, Amond and Bogle. He also signed Payne, Hoban, Tomlinson, Vernon, Jolley, Tounkara etc
Fair shouts, perhaps we need to do a full breakdown here as he also signed LJL, Hannah, Cook and Pittman who all fall into the grey area category.

Out of the big spenders, one, probably more will be a absolute disaster, who’s the money on?

We’ll ruin Mullin, no doubt about it.

I reckon Hyde will probably end up scoring more.
I honestly think you will be right. In our friendlies so far Hyde has looked dangerous, scored a few and getting in good areas. Our most creative player so far has been Mullin, creating lots of chances for others but barely had any himself

Remaining optimistic as a Grimsby fan but we're cutting it abit thin with just over a week till the new season starts. I hope Hurst can pull a rabbit out of the hat in regards of signing a striker with a decent pedigree. Tshimanga would of been our preferred option but I'm glad we've not spent ridiculous money on him as anyone at this level is a gamble. Wouldn't have minded Boden either but Boreham Wood look to have re-invested their money wisely as I think he's a good player.

One player that I think would fit the bill for us and it's just a wild stab in the dark but Luke Norris of Stevenage, always been a good technical player and can finish. Don't think there is that many options other than maybe Cheek of Bromley but we are playing them first game of the season so I deem that unlikely unless they sell after the game? We will probably take a punt on a U23 prospect from a Premier League or Championship club...

Our track record for marquee signings isn’t great.

Plus a penthouse flat in Ruislip

If you were to times Mullin’s wage by the number of season tickets Wrexham have sold by the Tshimanga fee by the amount of away fans Southend will have at Kings Lynn you would reach a figure so vast it would send the worlds’ greatest mathematical minds insane just trying to comprehend it.

I’ll begrudgingly give you LJL despite the fact Hursts blind faith in him has cost us multiple times but he’s too well liked by 50% of our fan base to ignore.

Hannah, yes.

Cook - Great signing but Hurst ruined him here IMO, another good player that he just ‘didn’t fancy’ who went on to be a good goal scorer at our level. Can’t give Hurst the credit IMO.

JPP - MAYBE, if you judge him on him being a backup striker, 15 goals in 59 appearances is okay considering the amount of starts he had. You could argue he just simply wasn’t good enough to start (and the penalty miss still riles me)

Our record with big striker signings is the stuff of legend. Danny Haynes is the best, signed a guy who was scoring goals in the Championship on big wages who was only 25. Within a year of leaving us he was playing for Cray Wanderers.
