Former Notts and Grimsby player Mitch Rose has signed for us this morning. Any good? Released by Boston at the end of last season, so I’m guessing not.
Decent at this level, breaks up play, good long throw, can’t pass wind though.

Also, unfortunate penchant for beating up his girlfriend. And anyone she happens to be with.

Rose is a good player at this level, box to box midfielder, not amazing at anything but very solid. Key part of our team that made the play-off final, and fantastic at penalties.

Unfortunately, as alluded to above, stuff came out while he was at Boston that suggested he’s an utter scumbag and it’s a shame to see him get another pro deal because of that.

It's safe to say our fans are disgusted by this signing

Good at penalties Mitch Rose but not much else.
I had no idea of him beating up women first I’ve heard of it just reading this thread.

Yep echo the above comments. Takes a mean pen but beyond that nothing more than a standard lower league box to box CM. Will work hard, but will also give the ball away and be a bit of a liability. Covered for us at full back a few times fairly well, including keeping Zaha very quiet at Selhurst Park a few years back.

Obviously won't condone what he's done in his personal life if these allegations are true.

Alfreton have signed ex Chesterfield and Kidderminster midfielder Milan Butterfield. Any good?
Tbh mate we didn't see much of him. I assume he must have showed very little in training because he got very few opportunities. I guess a good player makes the shirt their own though so read into that what you will

Good move that, hopefully he can kick on there. Boston seems to be a decent place for players at this stage in their career. Hard to see him breaking into our team right now, as him and Khouri are 5th/6th choice behind the CMs we've been using.
Yeah think the 5 subs rule here has really forced our hand really. I really do rate Spokes so hopefully he does well there.

Yeah, I wasn't sure about him at first but he had some decent performances towards the back end of the season (Barrow, Exeter, Oldham all spring to mind). Very tidy, maybe needs to toughen up a bit so hopefully he'll get that down there.

We’ve signed winger Oliver Crankshaw from Bradford for an undisclosed fee.

Seems their fans rate him but their new manager never took to him.

Should mean the end of 3412 with this signing and Whitfield also impressing after finally being played and impressing in his natural position on Saturday.

What is Whitfield’s natural position? And what will you likely play now?

Looked a world beater for Curzon a few years ago before he got that move to Wigan. Surprised he's dropped back down a level.

Winger/wide forward. He’d been inexplicably played as a striker or a wing back before Saturday, where he started in his natural position for the first time and got MOTM.

Rusk is shit scared of going away from three at the back so it’s looking like 343 for as long as he’s in charge but it opens up 442, 4231 and the formation I’ve said for months that would suit Rooney and Madden the best 433.

If we can somehow find ourselves a decent Quigley back up and then get him back fit soonish as well then the squad is looking more like what it should have done a couple of months back and most of the summer recruitment mistakes have been rectified.

Crankshaw is a decent player. He didn't get many chances under Adams, presumably because he liked to get forward and try to create those goal things. Needs to work on his end product but I think he's got plenty of potential. Great work ethic too, will run himself into the ground and endear himself to the Stockport fans.

We actually finally get our LWB fit, sign a left sided centre back who likes playing in a 3 and now we're changing away from the wing backs?

We really don't make a lot of sense do we?

Personally never a fan of the wing back formation at any level, it would never be my choice. Always ends up a back five if you start getting up against it and it's harder to get on the front foot IMO. Every fucker plays it in this league though. Notts, Chesterfield, Wrexham, think Dagenham did.

What's this about Whitfield being in his best position on Saturday wnm? I was pissed out my head for most of it but it looked to me like he was just playing behind behind Madden and Reid and running around fucking wherever which he did a great job of second half.

Paid a fee?

Excel spreadsheet updated.

Conditional formatting just gone into overdrive and turned Grimsby red. That Phil Hurst is now under pressure.

Was a tribunal so it won't have been much. Put it on your trakcer at about £15,000. Max.

Wouldn’t be so sure, hearing Scunthorpe presented Lew’s posts as evidence at the tribunal, so it’s at least a six-figure fee.

We may well have been shafted here. This is the club's statement:

"Grimsby Town Football Club can confirm that the tribunal between ourselves and Scunthorpe United in relation to the signing of John McAtee has taken place, with a ruling being issued to both clubs yesterday afternoon.

We will be making no further comment on the matter."

Yep hearing runours Pontoonlew was called as a witness to take to the stand late in the day and fell right in the trap.

I've put down £150k for now.

Apologies to the brothers who keep getting Dropbox notifications. Not my fault Grimsby haven't been transparent.

Aye "worth every penny no matter what it is" was a bad witness statement to give.

We have now unfortunately paid well over the odds for him

Well if the tribunal takes into account what we had probably offered to Scunny in the first place and added say around 25% to that, going off our previous transfer offers to clubs I expect it will be somewhere around the £250 - £350 mark.

Left winger for Torquay, I think he was left side of a middle three on Saturday but he pretty much dominated the whole front-left quadrant in the second half against Wrexham.

I still don't see us switching to actual wingers at any point, not even a military intervention could stop us from playing wing-backs

Anyway. Seems Bratfud fans have been saying he's got bags of talent but lacks the application, we've all heard that before. Well worth yet another three-year contract.

I mean wide in a 343 or 3412 is a very similar ‘wing back’ role really so nothing changes in that regard though both MSH and Kitching were full backs in a four at Hartlepool and Fryers played as a CB in a back four at Swindon and impressed when fit so I’d be happy switching to a back four but Rusk won’t.

First half I couldn’t really work out our formation but second half it very much looked like 343 with Whitfield keeping the width wide left of a three, Reid central and Madden playing narrow off the right and allowed to drift where he wanted.

That’s certainly what happened for the second goal as Whitfield worked his magic near the left touchline, Madden picked up his cross at the far post, layed it back to Croasdale and our left wingback/winger in Rydal had got in the box to tap it home.
