I'm quite content with those two additions. Right back is a position we've struggled in for years (since Joe Oastler in my opinion), so hopefully Hurst has the quality we've lacked.

Good couple of days, and the starting XI seems to be taking a bit of shape now.

Cheye Alexander has signed a 1 year deal. Played the last 4 games for us last season and didnt do a lot to excite me going forwards but to be fair he was on non contract terms and hadnt played for a while. Hopefully Barry Smith has seen some potential in him.

You guys got the wrong CB initially.

Boyce was the better of the two, but you got there eventually!

We're a bit slow, but you are correct, Boyce is better. No question of his abilities and most definitely a league player. He was making mistakes, but with work from our backroom staff, he has come on very well. Good to have him in the squad for this coming season, but not sure how many games he will get. We are well off for CB's and much will depend on whether he can take the eye of Robins early on. It may be that he gets loaned out for game time, no bad thing.

So us and Tranmere have signed the most new players (10), not that it means a great deal at this stage. Doubt we are going to add anymore now as CM said he thinks that will be it until the trialists try to stake a claim in pre season training/friendlies.

We've signed Luke George from Southport.

Excellent signing, just the presence in midfield that we needed. Another signing due on Wednesday, thought to finally be confirmation of Ian Sharps.

Billy Waters has signed for Cheltenham, proving Gary Johnson still likes to sign one Crewe reject a season!

But in all seriousness an excellent signing if he can hold down one position. Cheltenham fans should be excited to have a player like him in the side because if you keep him fit and don't turn him into a utility player you've got a good footballer. Thought he'd drop to Conference but end up at one of the more local sides around us so didn't expect him to venture to Cheltenham!

I thought they wanted promotion? Albeit even if he is a backup player. He is very poor, limited and lacking, a total waste of a wage whatever IMO. As others have said, very surprised they have signed him again.

I'm going to disagree on Marshall. He had a quiet start (not fully fit?) but came alive as the season went on. Useful back-up player to have.

Weird one, albeit will be a back-up player.
Yeah agree with you Imps, definitely a bit of an odd one. Hopefully he won't be on much. Had a few decent matches in his first stint here but I do think he's some way below the level any of our other current wide players.

He had a good 5 or 6 games in a row when Moyses first came in when there was less emphasis on wingers doing defensive work but that was it.

Problem was, it was 'good' by his normal standards, which was usually poor/ineffective.

I just think even as a back up/coming on from the bench type of player they could do better. Granted he may be on little money but I couldn't understand how he kept getting into our squad, game after game for parts of last season. He had the odd game where he looked ok, but nowhere near consistently enough for me.

Our 'outs' aren't up-to-date by the looks of it.

Wonder if they've signed Marshall as he had a decent game against them and scored.
Wasn't our player anyway. was on loan from Morecambe, must of been injured I guess as he hardly played after January.

Unsure on Marshall, if we didn't already have Arnold, Mackreth and Monkhouse I'd say it was a poor signing, but as we do it's not too bad, not sure he was needed but if he can reproduce the form he did when on loan with the likes of Hannah he will do well especially as we now have a stronger squad.

As it stands can't see him getting much game time but you never know.

Said we'd sign a new winger....

He's a back up, 4th choice. If any other squad in this league has a 4th choice better than him I'd like to see it. He's got some pace and can run with the ball, I'm not sure as a defender on 80 mins I'd like to see him come on against me.

I would, because he only looks at the ball.

This sounds extremely promising. Looks like he'll be playing as one of a 3 up top (on either left or right) or just behind a front 2. Either way, I'm quite pleased in one way or another with all of Johnson's signings so far. He's also mentioned another forward, with a decent record of scoring in the Conference, is set to sign this week. I presume it'll be announced when the players are back in on Wednesday.

Still need a left-back and a keeper though, Stuart Nelson now the biggest rumour in that regard. That could be more to do with the fact he's from Stroud though than anything else.

Marcus was very good in the first half of his loan here. In the second half of the season, he was absolutely woeful and didn't deserve to wear the shirt (much like most of the team at that point). He can produce great things but not that often. Will trust Hurst's judgement but I'm not sure yet.

Pretty much word for word what I was gonna post, 2nd half of his spell here he was absolute dogshit.

Marshall did ok in his first spell here I thought and scored a great goal at Ebbsfleet. It was his second spell when he came back that he was disappointing. Not really sure why the difference but Bury recalling him when he didn't want to go back and saying that Luton wanted him must have been a bit unsettling I suppose.

I'm fairly sure he'll only be a back up player though as we now have 4 wingers on the books.

Underwhelming signing but Hurst knows him and he knows us so that's a bonus. He's not quite Serge Makofo bad but I'm grateful we have Arnold, Mackreth and Monkhouse ahead of him as he is barely a mid-table player in this league. Overrated when he was here I thought.

Satisfied with this one. He's not going to be first choice and gives us versatility. In the first part of his loan spell a couple of years ago he was good and he ripped us a new one for Lincoln last year. He looked average in an average Lincoln team but it's probably not that easy to get motivated when you're playing for mid-table obscurity or lower mid-table obscurity. Lacks consistency but then so do the vast majority of Conference players. With our options he'll play if he deserves to, not like at Lincoln, because there was no better option. His late pace might come in handy off the bench. All-in-all, not ecstatic, but as Lew says, for a 4th choice Conference winger, he'll do. Probably cheap too so will leave more for a defender and a striker.

Was arguably the best player in the division at times in the first half of last season when Barnet were looking invincible. Without checking, I wouldn't be surprised if Barnet's wobbles in the second half of the season coincided with him losing form. He certainly wasn't as prominent whenever I saw Barnet after Christmas. Potentially a great signing if they can get him back to how he was from August to December.

Great signing. I'm not quite sure how it hasn't worked out for him at Barnet. He was easily our best player for half a season and then had a few poor games and Allen lost faith in him.

He should be playing in League 2, far too good for non league.
