Bad news for Notts. Aldershot beat us 1-0 twice last season… and he scored both

I am not a fan
Of Harry Pan
My views are documented.
Hope he’s on song

If anybody is after an injury-prone left-sided defender then we’ve let Zeki Fryers go today.

My understanding is that we could loan him to another football League club as the loan to you wouldn't count, but our forum doesn't seem clear. Not even sure if that's what you asked?

He played for us NYD and gave away a Penalty and then got taken off after half time, but he is well thought of here. I see Bell has come back too. What were your thoughts on them?
Yeah that is what I was asking, cheers mate.

Towler has been quality for us, he's way too good for this level and has a bright future. I'd put him on par (or there or thereabouts) with Ryan Bennett in terms of young defenders I've seen come through. He's great with his feet, very composed and didn't get bullied once. The only time he looked proper dodgy was when he was played on the left hand side of a three. I noticed on a thread about him on your forum a lot of people were suggesting he'd come in and play LB. He's absolutely not a left back for me.

I saw less of Bell but what I did see, I really liked. Very lively, good feet, willing to run at defenders with the ball and looks like he has a decent finish on him. However, it's a shame he didn't get many chances to show his finishing ability as he was with us mid-slump.

Laurie Walker (our keeper) has been recalled by MK Dons. Gutted about this one - the best keeper we’ve had since being down here IMO. Will be interesting to see if we get a new keeper in, or stick with Mitch Walker who’s confidence looked absolutely shot before Laurie Walker came in.

Yeah Towler is quality hopefully he’ll have a really good career.
Although it really shows the massive step up too that he played first 45 minutes for Bristol City v Millwall and I’ve not seen the goals but my lad told me that he was at fault for both of Millwall’s goals before being taken off.

County sign Ryan Johnson

Good luck to him, if he wasn't going to force his way into our lineup with our first choice LCB suspended then it's probably for the best he moves on. Seemed a well liked person within our squad. As a player got all the physical attributes to make a decent centre-back just struggles a bit with reading the game to make it in L2 or above at this point. If you have someone experienced alongside him then I think he will do alright. Probably could do with improving his ability on the ball also if he is to make it much further.

We have signed ex Alty left back David Fitzpatrick is he going to do a job for us?

We had him last season. Solid player, does the basics well albeit not much more than that. Of the players we let go last summer it was only him and maybe a couple others I wouldn't have minded too much if they had been kept on. I'm surprised Askey hasn't tried to bring him in at York to be honest.

Wonder if he was suited by Alty's style of play. We've been leaking goals and letting too many balls in to the box. Watson wants more defensive minded full backs than the likes of Morgan who we've just let go to Alty and Askew our current left back, two of the most attacking full backs you will come across.

Having not had a serviceable striker for 1.5 seasons, and sending our two bad ones out on loan, we have now signed two more midfielders. Raising the prospect of playing 4-6-0 until relegation to the NLN. One is from Bradford Park Avenue, so immediately underwhelmed by that.

The other is Eliot Osbourne, who is interesting. I don't recall him at County, though I must have hated him every time we played them that season. County fans - any good? Can he hit a barn door?

EDIT - never mind, 12 goals in 85 games.

Yeah he can finish decent enough but he's a box to box midfielder. Good player for us in the North, I was surprised he got himself a FL move and not that surprised he's back down at this level.

I'd have taken him back here as back up to our midfielders as we are light in numbers in that area but probably only a loan as any permanants need to start being geared to players who we can develop into FL standard players either with or us or elsewhere for fees.

I always thought he was too lightweight when playing deeper and preferred him as a 10.

Like you I think NL is his top level but a good signing for Alty if he can get back to his best.

I'll ask you the same question about this Morgan chap.

Alty and Chester don't seem to do well with each other's signings lately do we? Johnston's move to Chester seems to have proved a career-ender, Mahon didn't last 5 minutes here, and Brad Jackson has been a waste of space so far.

I think we signed Craig Hobson from you as well, and he was rotten, admittedly in a rotten team.

EDIT to add, Neil Young

The Lad is very good going forward and does score a few goals for a fullback but he has a habit of ball watching or losing his man when defending, that said he’s still young and will do ok in a attack minded side. You did get your own back with JJ who never lived up to your opinions or our expectation.

Macclesfield Town have signed Mark Duffy

I was sceptical when we signed Neil Danns at 39 but is on track to piss our player of the season award. Duffy played 24 times in Lg1 last season, and won promotion to the premier league with Sheff Utd just 3 years ago so he surely must be even better.

And of course he has joined us for the love of the game and to learn everything he can from Danny Whitaker.

Jayden Richardson confirmed until the end of the season. Massive news, right wing back was our obvious weak position and he’s been fantastic.

yeah, best signing we could have made this January purely as the drop off from him to Kelly-Evans is massive.

Could see DKE moving on this month. Like Roberts has been a victim of the change in system - absolutely sound right back in a four but not good enough going forward as a wing back.

Personally always thought he was a bit rubbish. One of those defenders that did the stuff like clearances off the line and throwing himself into tackles that gets fans all excited but then fails to do the simple stuff like stop crosses. I also suspect if you looked at his passing breakdown, 95% of them are to Brindley. The fact we spent all summer chasing right backs and then gave him a 1 year deal late on kind of cemented what Burchnall’s opinion of him was.

His ability to only pick fights with opposition players a foot taller than him will always be appreciated though.

Scott Wagstaff has left us for Bromley.
Can’t say I’m too disappointed in this, don’t think we ever saw the best in him but he seems a decent enough player for this level.
