Alex Hunt has returned to Sheffield Wednesday which is a huge blow, to lose him and Towler within a week of each other is a tough one to swallow and exactly what we feared would happen.

I don’t have a lot of confidence in Hurst generally but I do rate his ability to get a good loanee in so fingers crossed we can get a decent replacement

Is this confirmed?

Though I did say after Hurst post match last week that he implied he wouldn't be staying. I got the impression from him and the owners comments last week that we are looking to longer term signings rather than having to rebuild every summer. I reckon loans are going to be far less relied on and we are going to bring in players on longer deals.

Big blow to lose Hunt, he's a talent. Would not be surprised at all to see him rock up at Chesterfield or somewhere on loan for the rest of the season. Easily the best passer of the ball I've seen this season at this level. Still creaming myelf over his through ball for Sousa for our equaliser at home to Wrexham. I think we're mad to be letting go of a player who can do that if that's what's happened here.
Is this confirmed?
He's been photographed back at training with Wednesday.

Now confirmed but Hurst says we would like to sign him permanently.

As I thought based on recent comms looks like he wants to rely less on loans and sign longer term deals. Doesn't expect it to come off with Hunt though.

It’d be one hell of a signing if we get him permanently, can’t see it

Played for and scored from outside the box for the Wendy U23s today.

I'd imagine he'll get a deal at Wednesday, they've got him earmarked as Barry Bannan's eventual replacement apparently.

Yeah I reckon it will be more him as well not wanting to drop to this level permanently especially if he has a chance of staying with his boyhood club

Yeah, he got caught at 4am three times over the limit. Seems to be that it's his lack of his transport to training following his subsequent driving ban was the final nail in his Grimsby coffin. What a waste of a young player, he's good enough to be playing at this level.

From Hurst today was nothing to do with driving or his offence. Didn't actually say why but gave the impression it was more the player being homesick.

Though I imagine not being able to drive doesn't help if homesick!

Hurst did mention interest from other clubs as well last week, so he might well feel like going back and getting back on Darren Moore's radar this month in training with a view to getting a loan to League 2 at the end of the window.

Ah okay cheers, haven't had chance to listen to the pre-match from earlier.

Connor McAvoy’s loan extended until the end of the season. Excellent news for us.

No chance we’ll get Hunt on a permanent but good to show our metal by attempting to shop at the Waitrose of League 1 in Sheffield Wednesday as opposed to Wrexham and Stockport only being able to afford to shop at the league 1 Lidl’s and Aldi’s of Cambridge, Cheltenham, Fleetwood and Bolton Wanderers.

Not sure window shopping counts.

A position we needed filling as a priority.

Deal until the end of the season initially. If this proves successful, I can see Demitriou being released at the end of this season, which should free up some space on the wage bill.

Amazingly Angus has been given a new contract with us, so sorry for anyone who thought they could have had him, I honestly thought he would be out of the building this window

I was surprised by that, he's barely played this season and when he has he's been pretty disappointing.

We will go with what we've got.

Will Bapaga and Seb Revan also return to their clubs.

That’s now almost all of our bright sparks this season gone (Revan definitely not one of them).

Fast becoming a farce

Depends who comes in. Doesn't sound like we had much control over Towler or Bell. Hunt is the one that irks me, as the ball was in our court it seems. Bapaga and Revan are hardly surprising. Sears, we'll never know the full story but if it is a transport/homesick thing, it begs the question what kind of support are we offering our squad?

I do think that one criticism of the squad in the first half of the season would be that it was too young and we were bullied at times and in certain positions. The less young loanees in the squad, the less chance of that happening hopefully.

Aye, out of the players gone only really Hunt and Towler will be missed. Towler wasn't our fault he has gone back (victim of loan success and straight into their starting line up) and while we might have been able to keep Hunt at least Hurst would like to sign him rather than just loan him however unrealistic that is.

The others have hardly featured and other than Bapaga probably didn't deserve too (Bell didn't really get a chance and joined whilst we are in crisis).

We do need several players in though, last night showed that while our starting 11 (due to no injuries) looked decent on paper, there was nothing on the bench to change the game and we all know how much we need a goalscorer!

Can Hurst ride this storm out with the beleaguered Mariners?

If he's sacked he'll never get another league job. He'll end up at Solihull as one of their scrum coaches.

Can't see the new owners sacking Hurst anytime soon

He was absolutely terrible during his loan spell here last year, even by the very low standards set by last year's bunch.
