Morecambe and Macclesfield would be 2 at a guess...

Those two would vote for a reprieve, Macclesfield in particular if they had another points deduction.

Forest Green were supposedly one of the four, Bradford are also another club if what LS Bantam has quoted above is true.

Surprised the EFL punished Macc this season as it made it harder to relegate Stevenage!

I have been told that on Sky this morning they were discussing the rumour that only two will come down from League 1. Rather disappointing, but this might well explain if Argo voted to keep Stevenage up. Or maybe teams felt that keeping Stevenage guaranteed six points for most of them next year. That Harrogate would be hungrier, better, less predictable and so harder to beat.

That ideas being banded about are getting even worse aren't they?

No promotion and relegation to promotion but no relegation, then incorporating the PO games still, then extending the PO's, and now promotion and doing hybrid relegation. Baffling.

Can’t they just play rocks, paper and scissors? It is is as sensible as some of the other ideas. And at least it is easier to understand that some of the piffle I read.

No doubt some clubs would state they can't afford the paper and scissors and would ask for financial assistance.

We were one of the clubs that voted to keep one club to be relegated. But also voted to finish the season early. Been confirmed on statement from our chairman Philip day.

Give how much the footballing picture is changing who knows, maybe even Grimsby might finish in the top half sometime soon!
I know. Baby steps. Our target this season was to finish above Mansfield and we seemed to do that easily enough :ds:

I would love to know the rationale for removing relegation. If Mansfield’s chairman john radford voted to remove it I’d be genuinely intrigued as to why.

It doesn’t affect us either way given our league position and I believe that it affected the integrity of the completion as well as the relationship with the conference - there’s no real reason for it.

perhaps he wanted to keep a league above Notts County?

Nah, whereas some of our fans would think that I can’t imagine that being a factor in his decision - from a business perspective removing football it works well for them to be in the same division - 1800 county fans in the north stand bring in more money than the 100 odd Stevenage would bring.

So you also realise that Stevenage fans are odd.

we played them in their last game as a NL club in the 2010 FA Trophy final - they'd just got promoted to the EFL and we outnumbered them at Wembley, when they should have been there in big numbers celebrating the season... the degree of apathy amongst their fans was amazing - makes you think lots are fairweather fans who would hardly notice if the club vanished...

I don’t think anyone would notice they’d gone

They don’t even have any fans on here

We don't have a huge fanbase that's hardly news. It was our third visit to Wembley in three years and we'd rinsed the majority of the day trippers a couple of years earlier for the first match at the new Wembley. No doubt we wanted to win but the final ultimately didn't mean as much to us as it did for you.

;)

Mind you was with a Stevenage fan ..

I mean we hadn't been to Wembley too often ourselves.

I see Huddersfield‘s owner is saying that unless drastic action is taken 50-60 clubs could go to the wall, that there will be no football pyramid. He is calling for salary reductions of 30-50%. Yes, he is not exactly a neutral in saying this, but it does concentrate the mind somewhat. For many people the focus is on the season, but what he is suggesting is that clubs have to plan for what happens next season if there are no fans.

We're going to see a massive stand off in the coming weeks which will far eclipse what the league owners and EFL are bickering about now.

There's going to be a massive consensus amongst owners that player wages must be cut. And I'm sure there'll be a massive consensus amongst fans that they need to be too. Problem is, Gordon Taylor has already been feeding players drivel that they mustn't accept cuts as it'll only make club owners richer and they're doing it for themselves and not the clubs. That, is bullshit.

As long as that leech Gordon Taylor (trying to protect his salary and own rainy day fund in the PFA cash reserves) is about, the players won't entertain a drop in wages at all. Some will as they can see the bigger picture and understand without the clubs there are no jobs. But the mercenaries and greedy players won't see that. The PL will also oppose any cut to salary saying "Look at how much tax we pay to the Treasury" and will feed a load of bullshit that we'll lose players to countries abroad. Even though the Spanish, French and Italian leagues are currently talking about pay cuts as we speak. The Germans won't have to, because they pay vastly lower salaries as it is and are set to complete their season.

I can genuinely see a lot of players wanting to strike if a wage cut is forced through. It'll backfire though, as a lot of fans won't have sympathy for them and would much rather see the kids play if it meant their clubs survived. A lot of us are about to face higher taxation and brutal austerity, so why should football be so different? The sport, and indeed the players, need to get real and stop thinking of it as an institution that's above all the social problems in the World because it's had nothing but increased income every single year for three decades.

The chairman of the worst League team in 22 years calls for them to be kept in the league to maintain its integrity, or something like that.

https://www.stevenagefc.com/news/20...english-football-league-sunday-24th-may-2020/
Okay, but each of us expect the owner or CEO of their club to stick up for it. Heaven forbid, if I was a Stevenage fan I would want him to go into bat for the club. That said, there should be relegation any they are the only team in the box seat for that honour.

The conversation shouldn’t have happened in the first place.

The decision to do away with relegation was a stupid, ill thought out selfish decision.

Hardly a surprise the chairman have been overruled

It was daft of the EFL to give them any influence over that decision anyway.

It was also daft to give out a points deduction to Macc when we already knew the season was over. Both decisions by the EFL have unnecessarily given Stevenage a sense of injustice when there is none.

The irony is that Stevenage aren't in with a chance of staying up because of on the pitch matters. They're relying on Macclesfield getting more points deducted - that'd be a bit of a hollow escape.
