Well if your going to the pharmacy a prescription will do or we get e mails for a doctors appointment shopping we they seem fairly relaxed about it but ,no couples and only a set number inside the supermarkets besides that everything else is closed anyway

No we are the same first couple of days panic buying ,but now with security at the door its settled down no shortages at all

They'll have to come up with something else to keep the virus from transmitting in that case. If you tell people to stay away from each other for three months, then you hope that most people will follow that out of consideration for others. If you tell them to do it for 12 months then they simply won't.

Went to my local Sainsbury's at around 10am, there was plenty of fresh fruit and veg, bread and dairy produce, probably around the same amount that there is if I pop in after work during the week. There were still a few notable absences, bog-roll, flour and eggs. The lady on the till said that new stock is arriving regularly throughout the day and early on it was pretty busy, but when I was there it appeared that most people were doing what I did and just buying things they really needed and not stripping the shelves bare. The problem they were experiencing was not having enough staff to do the work, particularly stacking shelves and delivery drivers...which must be an opportunity for people who have been laid off!

From what I've read and heard, anybody can walk into pretty much any Asda, Sainsburys, Co-Op, Aldi etc at the moment, ask for the manager and get a temporary job - they're all hiring.

On the Beeb website there is a recent item that suggests many of the supermarkets are taking on staff. If I had just been laid off I know where I would be heading off this afternoon!

There was a taxi driver on R5 yesterday saying that his income had virtually gone in the last week, surely as a professional driver he would be ideal for supermarket deliveries...plus he will have a brilliant knowledge of the area where he lives.

Said effects take 2-3 weeks to show if it’s worked although Italian trends seem dire still which isn’t that positive.

We now have the military on the streets ,but its still calm went to a butchers this morning ,guardia civil everywhere stopped everyone checking where you were going giving a few fines out as well ,then i was the only one in the butchers who,s home made faggots are to die for

It does it appear that the supply lines are okay. Supermarkets were much better today although I can't remember the last time I saw any chicken.

My real worry is the amount of people who are not taking social distancing seriously or think that they are but aren't. A lot of people just seem to lack the skills/knowledge/self-awareness/willpower to adapt their behaviour. I will leave only for food and work but some people seem to still be having family gatherings and meeting their friends! Free country (for now) but it's just daft in my opinion. Don't understand what is going through people's heads.

Sadly I think you might be right.

On the supermarket front, they are definitely taking on lots more staff, literally thousands...there was someone on the radio said they walked in to their local supermarket, had a brief interview and were hired on the spot. We need to be creative, there are lots of people who will have lost their jobs in things like hospitality...there is an immediate need in retail, health and in the summer agriculture will need thousands to pick crops as we are unlikely to be allowing in all the seasonal workers from overseas.

Even at two packs per customer they'll clear the shelves fast. I imagine under normal circumstances the majority of people who visit their local supermarket won't buy toilet roll. Currently though a lot more people are just buying a little bit more.

I had 4 rolls left. Under normal circumstances that might be the point where I buy another pack, probably 4 or 9, but also I often leave it even later to buy my next pack.

Managed to pick up a 9 pack at the weekend. If there's lots of people like me who are just maybe buying their next pack slightly earlier than normal then it quickly adds up.

All this talk of the blitz spirit etc, if we had a war now most people here would be too busy fighting each other for toilet roll and then surrender when we ran out.

And others would go out and have bonfires and fireworks during air raids just cos they think they should have the freedom to choose to do what they want and take their own risks, even if it puts thousands of others at risk.

I'm just trying to keep up doing what I normally do, minus the obvious like going to the footy...especially the bit about chatting with my neighbours over the fence. The road where I live has a real community spirit, and I genuinely mean that, we are so fortunate to be free from the sort of tosser who doesn't care about the impact they have on those around them. We have a few retired folk, they are being well cared for and checked up on by their immediate neighbours...plus a few others who have put notes through doors. Had a chat earlier on with a bloke from over the road, his wife retired from nursing a couple of years ago...she has answered the call to return. Despite a few tales of selfishness there are a lot of people stepping up to the plate and thinking of others, I will be aiming to do the same in any way I can, no matter how small!

It takes time, but when it comes to the crunch, us Brits seem to get it together. On the question of panic buying , it seems to me that it's the bigger towns and cities that are suffering from people panic buying , I can see the goverment bringing in ration books, if this hoarding doesn't stop!

I think you are right, there is definitely a spirit in this country of getting together in times of adversity...some are doing it, some aren't, I think the ones that don't will probably be remembered by those who are. There is someone who posts on our club forum, who lives in London, and reported yesterday that the shops round where he lives were well stocked.

I expect things will calm down within the next few days, but only if people understand that as a nation we are more than capable of producing enough food to feed ourselves...even if it does mean changing your diet for a period of time. I wonder how many of those who contributed to the £1Bn extra spending will be living on pasta, lentils and flour for the next few months!
