The holiday homes thing is a factor over here too. Perhaps because people still haven't quite understood the scale of the problem, lots of people are thinking 'self-isolation, not a problem, I'll just head to my cottage in the Highlands / Lake District holiday home', then you end up with massive crowds in these places which usually aren't as well provided with medical care and food retail as other places.

The advice is so simple I don’t understand why people don’t get it.

Stay the fuck inside, for fucks sake!

Good advice for people with houses and gardens, not so much for people living in houses of multiple occupation in congested urban areas. I know of a couple of people living in places like that who have got coronavirus and within a day or two the entire house have.

We need to get out to build up our immune systems, that is why we have less colds and flu in the summer than winter. The problem is that people are getting out and not segregating the 2m.

These idiots who had “one last drink” on Friday night. The idiots who‘ve taken social distancing as a excuse to go to their favourite holiday destination. The idiots who’ve rammed the supermarkets full to get their trolley of bread and cider. The idiots who still think it doesn’t apply to them cos they’re currently fit and healthy, as they potentially infect public spaces.

They’ll be the first to complain when there isn’t a ICU bed, ventilator or critical care nurse left for them or a loved one in a few weeks time.

Lockdown is coming to the UK this week purely because of them.

When it goes into lockdown the authorities should take notes on these people who are blantantly ignoring public health advice so they can prioritise who to offer the ICU space and ventilator treatment. As they don't care about others, I don't see why they should drain any more capacity.

Just a lot not getting it. Went for a walk with the wife and kids around a local reservoir, not mega busy and a couple of miles long so easy to distance but you still had people stop and want to talk about our puppy etc that we were walking and it baffles me.

Took the kids the park yesterday and a grandad was there with his two grandkids on the swing my daughter had a meltdown as she wanted to go on the spare swing next but I refused and told her to wait until they’d gone... just use common sense and we can have some freedoms left but sadly many either are too stupid or ignorant.

I know the British attitude is keep calm and carry on and has served us well in war etc but this is totally different and we need to not be so stubborn for once.

Exactly, in the war it was the Luftwaffe that was the danger, you could hear the aircraft approach and head for a shelter when the siren sounded...with this virus it is carried on the air and you can't see or hear it, isolation improves your odds of avoiding it's grasp.

The only positive of this for me is that I have rediscovered my love of music...thank you Radio 6...as it is too depressing listening to my usual R5 without the sport.

Total lockdown here now. Need a code to go out for absolutely anything from walking the dog to going to the supermarket. Anyone stopped without a code gets a €150 fine. They are also mulling over banning over 65s from leaving the house at all.

And this is on an island that has had zero cases. Honestly, guys, you need to get your shit together in the UK - and soon!

What this crisis shows us is that we have allowed our manufacturing industry in particular to disappear to a dangerous level. We seemingly cannot even make enough safety equipment for vital health professionals let alone anything else.
Now that Boris has nationalised the country effectively, perhaps when the dust has settled his government may take the attitude that we need to maintain certain industries if only for times like this and not just leave it to market forces. The EU has also played a part in this in not allowing governments to support industry and that must change.
It is centuries since we produced enough food to feed ourselves so we are more reliant on the continent than ever ironically.
Get your `taters in!

Always seen your location but never looked it up: Looks like a great place to live?
Didn't realise that Corelli's Mandolin (which I haven't read or seen) was based on the WWII story of the island.

Yeah. Been here exactly a year. My son and his family moved here and we thought, sod it, and moved over as well.

Sister in law and her hubby also moved over. It’s great out of season when the tourists aren’t around.

Strangely and spookily quiet now.

Much the same with second home owners here in Cornwall, there are relatively few cases down here, and we would like to keep it that way, especially as we only have one proper hospital in the whole county.

Good to see Shaun Harvey's successor is every bit the twat that he was. Why is a former Liverpool director chair of the EFL in any case? That's like finding out that your union shop steward is Jeff Bezos.

TLDR; he essentially suggests that EFL clubs should get their own finances in order and disagrees with the 'begging bowl' attitude that Premier League clubs should help.

Been quite a large number of cases up here. Obvs we've no idea of the identities of those affected but if we're getting a lot of people moving up here from London who are also in 'at-risk' categories, i.e. older people then they're probably bringing it with them. We also have a high percentage of the workforce here that are in essential industries and still working, e.g. agriculture, food processing, energy, healthcare, public administration, transport and distribution.

I’m struggling today guys.

I’m a stay at home dad (due to my mental and physical health) so I’ve now found myself home schooling a 9 year old and a 5 year old which hasn’t been that tough today so far. I’m reasonably intelligent so I can deal with what they’re needing help with.

I love my kids to death but I will admit I enjoy the few hours break I get from them during the day as it allows me to recharge and try and get things done around the house as well as allowing me to rest when I need to.

My personal life has also been a total train wreck for the last 3 months or longer.

I’m proper lost, confused and not coping so well these last few days.

Don’t want to burden any of you but I just needed a little vent.

Man, I feel for anyone with any mental health instability.

Take a step back and remember that life is full of phases or chapters, and this is just another one. This is going to be shit for a while but it will pass at some point and people can return to normal. It’s a long tunnel but there is a tiny light at the end of it which we all have to keep walking towards.

We’ll get there - stay strong.

Not alone Dave, it’s a horrible time mentally this, no one is sure what and how long it’s going to happen and it’s come fairly quick. Last week towards the end shit seems to have got really and even Herr Hitler didn’t manage to close down society in this nation as much as this thing!

If need to vent or talk I’m sure no one will decline you on here.

I feel anxious with work/wife’s work, my kids and where this will all lead and it’s fairly normal.

Beautiful place is Kefalonia, calf killer mind as the wife loves a hotel half way up a hill! Did it there and Crete and Rhodes! No wonder my calf’s are fucked!

Nice how they handled the Corelli thing as it isn’t a hugely marketed thing there but just mentioned subtley... it’s what made me want to visit Kefalonia the scenery in the movie.

Agree totally...our teams might be Second Division, but when it comes to supporting each other let's show the World that we are Premier League!

It will be confusing initially until we can all get our heads around the implications, length of time that this could continue for and then be able to settle into some sort of routine.
With the rate that things are changing at the moment, that is the most difficult part.
But that is the name of the game, identifying the limitations of the situation and adjusting your living and lifestyle arrangements to get into that new routine.
Don't be afraid or too proud to ask for and/or seek help if you are struggling with any part of it. Everyone isn't able to do everything, the 'team' spirit shown across the majority of the country will contribute to all getting through this. Don't worry about being able to contribute yourself at the moment (although I would argue that you are by looking after your kids), you'll be able to bring your own piece to that party either now or in the future when others may have exhausted theirs.
This is one of many outlets to talk relatively anonymously amongst posters who probably have more of a understanding our own psyche, by virtue of our love of football than many others. Use us and them.
Keep going, we all have the feelings of uncertainty, but that pin prick of a light at the end of the tunnel will enlarge eventually and before you know it we'll all join you in complaining about visiting Carlisle or Plymouth on a cold and rainy Tuesday in November again...
