If it doesn’t happen I’d rather the club kept the money to help them out, £90 worth I can recover but if everyone demands that back it would impact the club so I’d rather keep the club afloat that potentially risk that (all be it we are probably in a more better position than most)

My theory, is this virus being caused by Mother Nature who has said to herself I'm damaged I need a respite from my contaminaters, With most of the world on lock down , pollution must also be coming down .

These viruses happen naturally to all species every so often, we’ve just been lucky enough to usually be able to create medicines etc and I’m sure this one will be contained sooner or later in the grand scheme of things. Various conspiracy theories going around mind!

Clearly everyone's preferred option is to finish the season - provided it can be done without clubs going to the wall. Can't see much happening before June - but a June - July finish might be possible?

Perhaps there needs to be some creativity applied to a shortened 20-21 season. Starting late September, divisions split into N and S sections for 20 - 22 games, then split into a final promotion and relegation section pool? Of course though clubs will want to have the 21/23 home games a season for income generation.

Least fair way to me would be to arbitrarily award promotion and relegation places based on 3/4s a season. Barrow and Chorley might be easy cases to allocate up or down, but in virtually every case there are just too many if, buts and maybe's.

Any idea when the National League will announce something - surely the clubs need to know asap as to whether to continue paying the players...

How about this. Tag the 10 games or so from this season on to the start of the next season - whenever that starts. When this season’s 46 games are complete clubs automatically go up or down a league.

So, in effect, one 56 game season. Discard the cup competitions.

I know it’ll be difficult for those clubs who do go up or down regarding cobbling a squad together not knowing which league they’ll be in.

the no relegation from the premier league (or all leagues down to NLN and NLS) and 2 up from leagues below is a way out and then adjust the number the next season - to get the numbers back to what they were (or just leave the prem at 22 even);-
promoted teams;-
Championship;- Leeds and West Brom
Div 1;- Coventry and Rotherham
Div 2;- Crewe, Swindon and Plymouth (3rd one because of Bury)
National League;- Barrow, Harrogate and Notts County
NLN;- Kings Lynn
NLS;- Wealdstone, Havant and Waterlooville (better PPG than York who are 2nd in NLN)
that would also leave room to promote the likes of South Shields and Jersey lower down in the pyramid who deserve to be promoted and otherwise will be suing the FA

Nope.

In any case you definitely can’t promote anyone not mathematically guaranteed promotion without finishing the season. Only leagues that play to a finish can award promotion/relegation. You can’t suddenly move the goalposts. The rules were that the team(s) in the promotion places after 46 games go up. No one in the EFL or NL have achieved that. So no promotion until they have.

The only teams you can fairly promote are ones who were already guaranteed promotion. No one else has earned it yet. Being top after 36 games or whatever doesn’t mean you’ve earned promotion.

Absolutely spot on. I think it’s farcical anyone could get promotion after 36 games, less than 80% of the season. I think it’s only fair we set the cut off at 37 games and promotion honoured for teams top having played 37 games.

Following resumption after a short pre-season, complete the current fixtures.
Then following another opportunity (pre-season in effect) for the clubs to shuffle their packs in preparation for the next season in whatever league they happen to be, play a 23 game season with everyone only playing each other once home or away in order to get the 2021-22 season back on track.

It’s not the worst idea all be it with maybe a tournament to make up number of games so like maybe 8 team mini leagues for a trophy or something instead of a full 2020/21 season.

Talking about lock down until early June earliest now so assume nothing could start until late June/Mid July anyway and without fans likely.

Got to be honest I’d rather we missed out of the top 7 if it’s behind closed doors and go for it next season! Celebrating promotion from our living rooms with empty stadiums for example doesn’t appeal at all. Would be better to scrap next season and finish this when all is well again.

Without the steady stream of income from Matchdays, half the number of games would send most of the clubs into meltdown.

There is a very real risk this whole thing could be the death knell for football as we know it.

I'd stop short at death knells and suggest (possibly optimistically) that this is the time for the radical restructure that football genuinely needs.

Stricter wage controls, perhaps a harder salary cap as opposed to the softer cap we have in SCMP, EPPP to be scrapped and teams forced to bring through youth players.

A lot of teams will go to the wall unless they adopt the draconian cost cutting that ITV Digital's collapse saw clubs adopt. Clubs haven't learned from that at all, as evidenced by Bristol Rovers being £24 million in debt despite not really doing much to accumulate that sort of money.

I work from regularly anyway, and have been able to function pretty much as normal, just doing a lot of videoconferencing is new. I am actually being very efficient and getting lots more done because I work instead of travel. But that rather makes me lucky, much more luckier than those who have lost their income.

At work we have assumed , though not publicly said yet, that no one will be in the office until July at the earliest. We also assume that there will be subsequent waves from winter onwards. We are planning for a whole lot more virtual work in the future.

If we are right, can't see that there will be the motivation from EFL and clubs to finish off the league's in August/Sept.

I won't ask for a refund, but I suspect the number of season ticket holders next season will go down massively for all clubs outside the PL.
