Relevant because by resting players tonight they will be well rested for Saturday, if there would be no physical impact on Saturday then we'd have played our strongest side.

Jesus Christ how can they need a fucking rest ffs the season has only just fucking started. If you had a league game last night there would be no resting. They've got another 2 week off after saturday as well. Poor footballers they do have it hard in life don't they.

Actually we have a game the Saturday after. Given the position we're in can't blame Johnson for prioritising the league, making sure players don't pick up knocks pointlessly. You're right if it had been a league game they'd have played but that's the whole point, it wasn't a league game.

I knew we were going to lose that last night when I seen the teams, fucked it off at 3.0 and went back to the pub. Weirdly I actually fancy us to get something on saturday though.

Tell me you didn't miss Tomlin's goal JJ?!

Disappointed to go out, disappointed with the initial team selection and if Tomlin and Abraham had started we'd probably have won that game.

Having said that, I can't say I came out of the ground annoyed. That last half hour we played some quite beautiful stuff, ripped them apart at times, could've had 4 or 5 and were unlucky not to take them to extra time at the very least.

Some great individual performances: Reid was outstanding, Moore was assured, Engvall looked sharp with a great first touch and Tomlin just took the piss when he came on. That goal was a thing of beauty and he nearly did the same thing 5 mins earlier.

We're 6th in the league as it is without playing brilliantly, if we can find a way to perform like that consistently over 90 mins we'll be hard to stop.

Made wholesale changes tonight but that 1-0 loss at Deepdale at the weekend is going to be very annoying.
Spoken like a true NUFC fan. Expecting the worst but hoping for better (to football media thats er...."delusional" apparently)
Preston are a decent side but I noticed on their rare attacks (3 during game I think) they aim for corners and free kicks to take advantage of forwards height. Down there we need taller defenders than Anita
Last night really. Even before the lad was sent off for his forearm smash into the throat (Why ? What a stupid foul) Newcastle were building and building and I said (to myself !) "This is going to be 4, 5 or even 6" and hitting woodwork 3 times, open goals missed a decent keeper and silly misses, it could and should have been double figures
Preston will throw everything at us - and going by the forearm smash - INCLUDING the kitchen sink. But time and again we got past their backs to put crosses in and I expect them to do so down there too

You were cutting through us like a knife through butter. We tried to play our pressing game but you just took the piss and played round us like we weren't even there. Hopefully it will be a different proposition on Saturday with our strongest team out but I still fear the worst.

Yeah we were getting a pasting before Browne got sent off, the red card just confirmed it. Should have left then really, it was embarrasingly easy for you.

Think it will be a different game at Deepdale, hope so anyway. We will look to keep it tight and nick something from a set piece probably. Hugill, Pearson, Baptiste etc will make us more competitive, any team with Eoin fucking Doyle up top is going to struggle at this level.

Moore was magnificent in the first half, and was it him who saved O'Donnell after the striker went round him?
Won't make a bold prediction based on one game, but really looking forward to when Moore breaks into the first team properly.

Lindegaard, Davies, Grimshaw and Doyle.

I've poured salt on slugs with a stronger spine.

I'm seeing absolutely nothing in this Grimshaw.

Little harsh on Grimshaw, he was massively up against it last night and before that we've only seen him at RB. Ben Davies however, why the fuck he is still employed by us I have no idea. Weak as fuck and very minimal technical ability.

To be honest long before the forearm smash sending off I thought to myself this is going to be 4, 5 or even 6. Time after time Newcastle were getting past the backs. In the end it could and should have been double figures. Woodwork hit three times, daft misses etc. I noted in their very few attacks, Preston seemed to be trying to get corners for their big lads in the middle. Probable approach for return at Deepdale ? You need to sort out the backs. There was 7 changes for last night. Lascelles and Clark back, Dwight Gayle back. Mitrovic and Perez back on bench.

What is he though? He's gash at right back and he looked lost in midfield, early days to write him off completely but unless we get smashed by injuries I don't see him being involved at all.

Quite funny that once we were down to 10 men, Newcastle could just bring Jonjo Shelvey on to absolutely run the game.

It was yeah. And there was that great bit of defending first half when their guy looked clean through, showed a real turn of pace.

Looked much more comfortable in the centre than the couple of times we've seen him at RB. Won't be worried at all if he has to slot in in the league at some point

Only Bailey Wright will possibly feature on Saturday out the defence last night, although I'd have him behind Clarke and Baptiste at the moment, if Vermijl is available to play right back.

I'm expecting 10 changes on Saturday at least, unless Ben Pringle retains his place (not sure why he would if McGeady is back), 11 changes if Wright is replaced.

Wouldn't say we 'play for corners', we press and stay compact, playing off the second balls. The pitch is much, much tighter at Deepdale.

It will obviously be a different game come Saturday but we too made 7 or 8 changes after the Ipswich game. I'd take a draw now after your recent form and especially considering the games against Huddersfield and Norwich.

I do think the sending off escalated things a touch last night but the way we were playing prior to it I still think it would have been a comfortable win in the end - 2/3-0 maybe.

Kudos to those that travelled too. I've been to Man City a number of times when we've been battered 4-0, 5-0 and 6-1 - awful experiences the lot of them.

..and I agree that I don't think you were playing for corners either. I think last night was a complete anomaly in that opportunities were limited for you completely. On another day (Saturday), the playing styles will be completely different.

Yeah why we signed Lindegaard in the first place I don't know, he was crap last season and crapper this.

Doyle is just wank, his agent must be the dogs bollocks to get a 3 year deal out of us.

Davies, not good enough, get rid.

Grimshaw doesn't look up to it at the minute, would loan him out for the season to a league 1 club in January.

I really don't rate Pringle either, he's weak, slow and not very good techically.

I want to like Pringle but he's done nothing of note yet, literally nothing.

Someone who will graft when needed but not a starter when everyone is fit.

thought he was gonna knock Ritchie out last night

aye, he's a temperamental so and so. been a long time since we signed a player who just clicked with the fans straight away though, despite not doing much of note on the pitch, we must be attracted to oddballs or something.

fuck will grigg and his tinpot fans for nicking mitro's song btw.

If a Reading fan is calling a place soulless, it really must be soulless. (Though there are much more soulless grounds in the Champ this season than the Madejski)

Was like that last time I went to the Emirates.. As I said when the draw was made - I couldn't see the appeal. No idea how we shifted 5.3k tickets in 2 days..
