Brexit would trigger second Scottish referendum within three years, Alex Salmond warns - The Telegraph
Increasingly, the Scouts want a divorce from the UK, if it's a Leave.

That'd be an insurmountable tragedy, too.

Scots 'would oppose independence referendum if a Brexit went against their vote'

Respondents were asked to imagine that in the EU referendum in June, Scotland votes to remain in Europe , but the overall UK vote is in favour of the UK leaving.

They were asked in these circumstances whether they backed another referendum on Scotland leaving the UK.

When those who answered "don't know" were stripped out, 52% were against a second vote, with 48% in favour.

I can understand why a Brexit would trigger another Jock independence debate, but surely it can't happen within 3 years because the full terms of exit and what the situation for the exiting UK would be going forwards wouldn't be finalised by then. No point repeating one of the main issues with this referendum, and giving the Jocks another vote without first giving them the full picture of what they'd be voting for. 5 years + is surely a more realistic time frame for that?

The last referendum was granted under the agreement that it would be a once in a generation thing. I don't think Westminster would be under much pressure to grant another, especially when it really isn't even that popular an idea in Scotland.

Junker, wherever you are, got a suggestion. Tell the Brits, that if they choose Remain, you promise to resign. Come on, take one for the team.

If the EU let us opt out of freedom of movement then Remain would probably win in a landslide.

That might actually be worth a second thought. But then take something like e.g. Sweden, where I live. Should they then get an opt out, too? If you think you lot have been under pressure with all them migrants nobody wants, what about Germany, or Austria? Look at Hungary, for frick's sake. We're all knee deep in this shite, all while Putin keeps on bombing schools and hospitals in Syria, because he actively wants the EU project to fail.

I think ideally every EU country should be able to opt of freedom of movement.

Isn't that what de facto has happened? All the borders have shut down because of this, from Greece to Sweden. Merkel even got that agreement with Erdogan, which is not the best of fellas in the midst of this. Doesn't it kinda work, then? This migrant shit and people killing each other these last ten years had been a bullshit situation for everybody no matter what agreements had been in place.

Border have gone up, they haven't been shut down. You can still move freely all over Europe as an EU citizen, you just might need your passport to do it.

And? What else can we do? Just put people in camps again en masse? Including Zidane or somebody. I mean, he's that tribe too, in't he?

Geldof and Farage shouting at each other whilst on boats. This sort of opportunity doesn't come around very often, anyone got a couple of serviceable cannons ?

That will become the lasting image from all of this, won't it?

I happened to be in the vicinity of Westminster Bridge today so I went along to see what the fuss was about [/vice column]

I've been open-minded about Leave but to be honest everyone there completely freaked me out. Bunch of pasty, leering weirdos. I guess most activists are a bit weird though.

The electorate are so taken with the referendum and their illusionary power over the politic process, that, few bother to ask the right questions.

We seem to be witnessing the slow descent into madness by CEngelbrecht in this thread.

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
This is beautiful.

Accuse the remain camp of 'recycling a declaration of support' and in almost the same breath, trot out the same, many-times debunked lie that has been the cornerstone of the leave campaign.

This is genuinely the standard of the debate on the most important issue the country has faced in decades.

The standard of the debate in my corner is more like, "Better a flawed EU than no EU."

"It's a human response against incoming threats - real or imagined - to seek shelter behind some kind of border, where you think the threat cannot reach you - behind a fence in a nation or indeed even on a continent. The size of this refuge can vary to the extent of the ratio of the threat versus the character and protective capacity of the refuge. Though sometimes it's hard to see any possible connection between them at all. In one American contingency film from the Cold War era, showing how people should react in case of a nuclear war, it was advised to put a blanket over your head and throw yourself under the nearest bed or table.
Next week the British is to decide whether to leave or stay in the EU. And some of the arguments presented for leaving are about as good as a Cold War film's advice to throw yourself under the bed."

So but sad to hear. I didn't agree with her views but this is just shocking. We need to stop arguing about the referendum and just take in what has happened. God bless you Jo.
