Absolutely delighted. It's a great, great day. I really thought Remain was going to win but the pollsters obviously got it wrong again. Probably at least in part because the extremely unpleasant lie that all Eurosceptics are racist made people shy about their intention to vote Leave.

The number of big babies talking about being ashamed or moving to Scotland is absolutely pathetic. The US, Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zealand are all successful countries that aren't in the EU. Let's have a bit of faith in ourselves. We can be a successful self-governing country again.
Tell me how. We've effectively turned our country over to people like yourself, people who wanted this and voted for it.

So tell me how the UK moves forward. What do you see happening in the short and long term? What sort of position will we be in 5 years down the line? 10 years? I ask because nobody on the Leave side has hold me anything of value. They've shaken their fists and thrown out the soundbites, but now is the crucial bit. Now is moving forward and actually making this a viable plan. Who do you want to see take over the Conservatives, which party do do you see taking over should there be an election in the next 6-12 months?

How do you see this working for the country in the short and long term?

I'd rather faceless bureaucrats in Brussells be making our laws than the shower of c*** that we've got for a government making them.
So basically you would rather take it in the arse than fight. Luckily we still have some smart people left in this country and we decided to fight. Think people like you should piss off to France or something if you like it so much.. Quickly while you still can.

Yeah I am not a huge fan of Farage at all or Gove for that matter after what he did to the education sector either.

And I wasnt a fan of Boris either up until this campaign. However IMO and this is only my opinion I think he has acquitted himself well in this campaign although part of me is still filled with apprehension at the real possibility of Boris getting in to Number 10 I think. Historic times in British politics for sure.
Yeah, it's volatile. I' with you on Johnson as well. He might come across as a bumbling comedic fucking scarecrow, but beneath that is a right wing shithouse.

Just arrived in Scotland. Place is going wild over the vote. They took their country back, just like we will take America back. No games!

I guess people will vote this one in as well as the most powerful man in the world.

Believe me mate with the political direction you and your ilk want to take this country in I'd be gone like a shot if I could afford it.

Your posts in this thread are even more painful that Abertawe's. And that's some fucking achievement.

We'll probably remain in the single market, have some form of free movement (perhaps with some emergency handbrake and long opt outs on new countries joining) and all that will have been acheived is we have less say in the whole thing.

I think this is an interesting article on what sorts of things could happen next:

None of us know really though.

(Still laughing at the whole "did a war" stuff above tbh)

Thread cleaned up again. Can we quit the name calling and foul language please. Just because someone doesn't agree with you doesn't mean you need to come up with as many swear words as your small brain can handle.

Please stay on topic and keep it clean

Thanks.

Since Wall Street has opened, the FTSE 100 has enjoyed a little bounce - well, we write "little", but 100 points would be a fair amount on any normal day. The pound is still roughly where it was, and the banks, housebuilders and so forth are as miserable as they were, so this looks likely to be a move based on a calmer view on the global economy.

Glance at the stocks that are actually trading up and this story firms up, somewhat.Compass Group makes the bulk of its sales outside the UK, as does Rolls Royce,GlaxoSmithkline, Unilever and other risers.

Pagnell was the only voter to put an X in both boxes without it being a protest vote.

I wish to protest that, whilst accurate, this post no longer has context.

With thoughts now turning to the negotiations, a German newspaper claims to have a copy of the nation's post-Brexit-referendum strategy, writes Stefan Wagstyl.

The German finance ministry has declined to comment on the leak.

Handelsblatt, the business daily, says it has secured a copy of an emergency plan entitled “German strategy for Brexit” which warns against treating the UK too leniently in departure negotiations for fear of encouraging others to follow suit.

The newspaper reports the document says there would be “no automatic access to the single market” because other states, including France, Austria, Finland, Hungary or the Netherlands, might seek similar deals.

One would try to “avoid offering false incentives for other member states when establishing new arrangements,” says Handelsblatt quoting the report.

It adds: “The extent of such imitation effects would depend largely on how Great Britain was being treated.”

According to Handelsblatt, the ministry paper says Germany would offer “constructive departure negotiations” but separation proceedings would be difficult.

It gives the example of Britain’s involvement in the European Investment Bank, the EU-run lender.

After the two-year period, the German government would aim for “associate status for the UK” and Great Britain would become an “associate partner country”.

Handelsblatt comments: “one cannot allow London to pick and choose in relation to the internal market.”

Hypothetically if a General Election is called, is there a possibility that a party could be formed with the intention of rejecting the referendum and remaining in the EU regardless? It isn't legally bounding, and presumably it would potentially get ~45% of the vote.

My faith in this county has been restored.

Thoroughly enjoying the mad hysteria.

We'll prosper outside the shackles of the EU.

A single unitary authority for urban Dorset
My partner has a few shares in her company of work as all their employees do. They were understandably nervous (doesn't affect us so much because she doesn't have that many but long term employees more so)

Apparently the shares took a plunge first thing this morning, but they've been steadily rising since 10am and have recovered beyond what they were before the vote, which is their highest price ever…

Brexit was the right thing to do, after all.

My intended point being, it's way too early to get giddy over how terrible our economy might be.
Things are going to be in flux for a while, where exactly it will all recover is impossible to say, but let's not get too wrapped up in the doom.

Interesting ( to me at least) reactions from my quick, completely unscientific research conducted on my customers. My restaurant is in torfaen which voted 60-40 to leave. There are a few people celebrating the victory for it's own sake but the majority still seem shocked that it's actually happened. From the people who voted leave there is a mix of muted optimism mixed in with real fear. Strange day.

Same where I'm working as well. Seems to be a few people who voted leave not expecting to win and not really wanting it. It's a bit strange.
