Wouldn't surprise me if Koeman cleans up Everton like Pochettino has done at Spurs, keeps hold of the talent and clears out the deadwood.

Whilst Everton are clearly a bigger club than Southampton, Southampton are in a better position, a stronger and younger squad. Whilst Everton have a very good starting 11, the reserves are awful and is why Everton after a few injuries could only finish bottom half this season.

The Southampton owners wealth is 3 times that of Evertons new owner. It's just the new Everton owner wants to adopt an immediate scatter gun approach to things, whereas Southampton are a well run sustainable model. Koemans been offered a lot more money in wages and it's turned his head.

However, Southampton fans are a lot more level headed, whereas Everton fans will be demanding Champions League qualification, or even the title as some believed they should have won last season. Everton need to strengthen the squad as a whole, so that any injuries to first team players are covered and simply finishing 8th/9th would be a good season and signs of progress. However that realistic finish would probably lead to fans calling for Koeman to be sacked...

I'm not sure about that. This Johnny melt on here isn't representative of Everton fans in general, the Liverpool Echo are also guilty of trying to whip up unnecessary needled between the clubs but by and large they are a fairly realistic bunch. The takeover has obviously changed things a little, with this summer being the first chance to see what Moshiri is prepared to do. Koeman seems a fairly ambitious signing as manager, especially with the money he's supposedly being offered, so I suppose that is a good sign? I feel for Southampton fans, the stuff about club size is totally irrelevant it's all about the future, money clearly oils the wheels but I think Koeman can see Everton pushing for more than Southampton in the next few years.

I'd like to see Everton competing again, they do have a large core fanbase and with decent management, new stadium then they can get back to being a top club again.

So in the current financial (footballing) climate you think they'd sell their best defender for less than they paid for him when he was unproven in this league do you Toddles? Cos lets face it Osman is a negative in the deal.

Very pleased with us hiring Koeman. A manager with a proven track record in the Premier League and a definite upgrade on Martinez. Looking forward to some Eredivisie bargains. Hopefully he will clear out the deadwood that has been lingering around the first team for far too long. To finish bottom half for two consecutive seasons with the squad we had was embarrassing and I'd be more than happy with top seven next season.

Very happy with this. As Arkan says, definite upgrade on Martinez and we should finish at least top 8 next season.

If the rumours about Mourinho not wanting Daley Blind are true I'd love us to go for him

The talk of an upgrade on Martinez doesn't mean much. Not to put Koeman down as he's a good manager, but you would have struggled to replace Martinez with someone that wasn't an upgrade. The guy was and is a mediocre manager at best.

Why on earth would Southampton (or any top half club) sell possibly their best player to Everton for £12m when a) Everton have been telling the entire world that they have £100m plus to spend this summer and b) every PL club is rolling is cash this season.

Any PL club Everton approach for a player this summer is going to double their valuation. If Everton want to get more than 3 good players out of their 100m, they'll need to look outside England.

Indeed, we have had a similar issues in the past. When the selling team knows you have money to spend the price they ask will reflect that. I understand that Everton and the new part-owner need to show intent for their long suffering fans (21 years and counting), but in coming out with the £100m figure, they have made things potentially very difficult this summer. And this isn't even taking into account that, even under normal transfer circumstances, players that could be described as no more than decent seem to be going for over £15m these days, and far more than that if they're English.

Yet he's still won more in England than your last 2 managers

Given that one of our last two managers was Kenny Dalglish, I suspect you didn't really think about that one. Or perhaps you really are the age your posting quality hints at.

To be fair, judging Everton and the fanbase on johnnytodd's posts is akin to using Michael Mcintyre as a yardstick for comedians.

Extremely mainstream and commands attention? ;) Even I wouldn't mark most blues down as being like Johnny!

Equally, why do people assume any sort of response to an obvious WUM equates to a bite? It's all a bit of fun.

How long until Everton fans turn on Koeman like they have done to every manager since Howard Kendall?

11th for Everton isn't underachieving. When will you stop being delusional and accept what kind of club you are?

You booed Moyes' incessantly even though he had you massively overachieving. You harangued poor Walter even though he saved you. etc etc.

Now Newcastle have gone you're undoubtedly the worst fans in the league.

Martinez undoubtedly did poorly with the squad he had at his disposal, I don't think Everton's squad is as good as some thing but Martinez deserved to get the boot as he failed to remedy obvious issues and he had two years of dismal league performances, I don't think the Everton fans were impatient at all.

Don't recall Moyes ever being booed, fans groan at poor results but there was certainly never an orchestrated attempt to oust him, although some thought he'd taken him as far as he could which he had.

It was a surprise to see Everton do so poorly last season, especially after their performance at St. Mary's early on in the campaign.

It has nothing to do with us "selling everything that moves". We rightfully aren't prepared to match Everton's £7m a year offer for him. He's good but he isn't that good.

Our ITK's don't think the players will be too unhappy with it. Tadic and Mane for example had fallen out with Koeman.

Jordy Clasie and VVD will probably be disappointed but there's rumours that he will look to sign Clasie. He's welcome to him. No chance of him or any other club getting VVD though.

Saints fans:

2013/14 season
Pochettino is amazing, absolute quality manager. So much better than Adkins. Lallana is a fucking brilliant player. Lovren is one the best CBs in the League.

2014/15 season
Pochettino wasn't actually that good, Koeman is definitely an upgrade. Best manager we've ever had. Lallana and Lovren are fucking shit - so glad we sold them.

2015/16 season
Koeman isnt anything special to be fair. I'm sure we can do better. Any player he brings with him to Everton is also shit.

Not quite sure where I said Koeman isn't anything special, just said he isn't worth £7m a season.
