Now we’ve binned Phil Brown, for some bizarre reason Richie Wellens is the bookies fav for the job.

Opinions?

Really tough for an Oldham fan to give a true judgement on his managerial qualities due to the off field turmoil during his spell.
I liked him as a player and I think he will make a good manager.
I don't see how any Oldham fan can offer you anything different............. some will tho !!!
He deserves a good job so hope it works out for both parties......

Oldham fans - talk to me about Richie Wellens. Apparently going to be our new gaffer.

What kind of football did you play under him?

As above, very difficult for us to say conclusively. For the first few games under Wellens, we saw some of the best football for many a year. However that soon stopped and he ended up taking us down without a whimper for the first time in 21 years. His job was made very difficult by our owner but he had one of the more talented squads we’ve had in recent years at his disposal and failed to get much out of them.

The jury will be out.

So, was trying to play football on your ploughed field of a pitch a reason or should he have changed your approach accordingly?

His appointment had not gone down well here.

The owner ranted to the players in the dressing room after the 3-2 defeat to Exeter, our first loss in a good while. The response to that was a 6-0 drubbing, and now the manager's been sacked.

Think I've made up my mind on Abdallah Lemsagam. He's no good.

Never a good sign when a lower league owner tries to flash cash. Unless they’re a Russian billionaire in charge of a tinpot south coast club.

Said it in the manager thread as well but I think this is a statement of intent from Al. For me he has his feet under the table.now. he's settled in and found his balls.
The last 2 appointments from his point of view have probably been crowd pleasing appointments (wellens unquestionably, every man to a T wanted him. Bunn historically was a favourite although few would have chosen him for gaffer).

Wouldn't surprise me I'd the next guy is foreign and previously known to Al.

Wouldnt surprise me if the new manager convinces abdallah to open his cheque book. Probably end up signing players on 4/5k a week in panic then end up not paying them once the summer comes because he wants rid

A cruel sense of irony for Bunn, known for scoring six goals in one match, it was a six goal defeat that saw him sacked.

Tomorrow, we're being managed by a fan who has stepped in to run the youth team this season.

I just don't get how there's still Oldham fans on Twitter defending this owner.

Anyone from any other club would stress what an idiot this guy is. I mean Christ it's not as if Oldham were a bad side, they deservedly embarrassed us three weeks ago. One flash in the pan result and it's enough to get Bunn sacked.

Ismael Miller and Giles Coke appear to have responded to the treatment of their mate Frankie Bunn by retiring.

I'll be very surprised if Scholes lasts a year, not because of his ability but the owner seems like a strange character and a bit trigger happy if things aren't going his way.

Given he’s on a reported £300k pa it would be financial suicide for AL to sack Scholes.

Scholes has said in no uncertain terms that the footballing decision are all to be his with zero interference on picking the team etc. I think bringing him in will also feed AL’s ego and may even present further investment opportunities.

That’s what I’m hoping anyway. It’s about fucking time something good happened to Latics.

Given Wild's done reasonably well and there is no evidence Scholes will be any better at management than former team-mate and Salford buddy Gary Neville, a strange choice if it happens.

I can remember seeing a Paul Scholes masterclass at Old Trafford against Fulham a few years back.

He was pinging ball out to Ronaldo for the entire first half an no-one could get anywhere near him, even in the latter stages of his career. I was right behind these passes near the front and they were looking like they were going out for a goal kick half the time then in the final 20 yards or so, they just bent around 3 players right to his feet of Ronaldo. And he scored 'a Bradford', too.

I wonder if his personality as a player will be the same now he’s a manager. Very rarely did interviews, you never saw anything about him in the media unless it was football related plus he’s been one of the best English players that I’ve seen. I hope he does well apart from when we play each other of course.

Sky sports are confirming this has gone through. Its either a master stroke or knowing our luck it'll all go to pot.

I've a funny feeling it'll work out this time though, although I reckon our time might be next season

Odd one in that the rules on ownership allow him to hold a minority stake in another club 'provided it's only for investment purposes'. Don't know who decided Schole's stake in Salford was only for investment purposes but make your own minds up from this.

Here's disinterested investor in Salford FC, Paul Scholes sat in the Salford dressing room with a Salford kit with his name on it.

And here's him at the opening of Salford's new ground, just making sure his investment is on track of course.

And here he is talking of his ambition to see Salford promoted to the Championship
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/37646024

And here he is, in the same article, rubbishing Oldham's away support.
I went to Stockport on Saturday. There must have been 500 [Salford] fans there. You don't see that in the Football League. OK, it is a local game but you would do well to get 250 if Oldham were there.

Oh, and here he also is, explaining why he bought Salford, just in case anyone was worried that his stake was about more than just investment.
We are not doing it for a return on our investment

Unrelated to the Oldham, but I also noticed in that article, it was mentioned to him that the original fans of Salford weren't all happy with the club's change of colours and location, and his response was 'it doesn't matter, there were only 80 of them'.

Ha I do actually agree with you on that one. Sounds like a loophole to me.

The quote about Stockport though is bull. He has apparently said since that it was taken out of context. We have taken close to 4000 on previous visits there.

One thing which must be noted though is his transfer dealings have been limited. We are not allowed to deal with Salford in any capacity with players going either way while scholes is here
