I’m now in the camp that Wigan would actually be a half decent draw, I think it’s the chance of Luton in there that makes it bad.

There wasn’t a single team in there we wanted to avoid more than Luton away, for all the obvious reasons combined with the fact our best player can’t play.

Agreed. Wigan are eminently beatable, have a big enough stadium to justify making it a tenner a ticket and giving us loads of tickets, ale is cheaper, and then, as above, there are the pies...

I’m the same, I’m really coming round to the idea of Wigan away as a great day out now in a big away end and I’m on my 4 off work that whole weekend.
With it being the 4th round I reckon we’d take around 3k there.

I admire your optimism all of you, but nothing you say or do will convince me that Wigan away in the 4th Round of the FA Cup is in any way shape or form even remotely close to being a good draw.

Oh it’s definitely not a good draw in terms of what we could’ve got, but out of the 2 possible options now it’s by far the best available.

Technically, it was one of the non-league grounds we visited! I love it personally though, one of my favourite grounds in the country.

True - it does have that charm as an old ground rather then soulless new bowl type .

They really do need to move though - were going to make plans but think COVID pushed everything back .

Yeah, I'm a sucker for a weird old skool ground. One of the best descriptions of Luton away I've ever read is that it's like going to watch a match in the 80s. The maze of streets around the ground, the greyness, the unerring sense of despair teetering on the edge of violence, etc.

You're right though, they're like us in that they really need to get out of their old ground and they're probably also up there with us in terms of having been talking about it for the longest. We've both slipped down from the second tier and dropped out the EFL (us twice) and they've made it all the way back up there since both clubs have been talking about a new ground! I seem to remember they had a final season at Kenilworth Road locked in but as you've said COVID happened. They have planning permission and an architect with stadium plans, don't they?

Ha amazing description of going to a game here! Wouldnt have it any other way, ill be very sad when grounds like ours and yours are gone.

We have planning permission on a site right in the centre of Luton. Slow preparation work going on there at the moment with "detailed plans" expected imminently which seems to get extended again and again. Unfortunately since we got the planning permission its been probably the worst economic environment possible for getting a stadium done. No real definitive timeline on any of it at the moment, so keeping ourselves in the Championship is a real achievement.

As for the game today, Im hoping and thinking we take it pretty seriously and put out a strong line up as its a real opportunity to get to the next round and maximise the opportunity of a big draw.

I see Grimsby are short on forward options - could play into your favour a little bit if you go very defensive and force us to break you down. These days we are a high pressing team, quite happy for the opposition to have the ball so we can use our energy and intensity to win the ball high and exploit the spaces that provides off the counter and the "turnovers". Works well against Championship sides with grand ideas of playing out from the back and slow patient build up, but we dont tend to do so well against set defences who want us to make the running - hence our home record this season has been a bit meh as teams have wised up to that approach.

For all those young cats that love the idea of time travel, just go to Luton for the day and you are cascaded back in time. The walk over someone's back garden to get into the away end is the weirdest experience I've had since tripping over David Blunkett's guide dog at Hillsborough.

it is a good job that woman’s bathroom window is frosted glass or all the away supporters would get a good eyeful entering the ground up that metal staircase.

I actually fancy us to nick this one 2-1 with a last minute Clifton winner, just seems that with all the negativity around the club this week it’s the sort of strange result that football can sometimes throw up when you least expect it.

I fully expect to lose the replay as I’m expecting you to play much better than you did today but I still can’t wait for it anyway, packed out BP under the lights with a chance to get in the 5th round, lovely stuff.

He played well, caused Lockyer and Osho a lot of problems, Lockyer has been great this season too. Osho is a bit of a bull in a China shop.

I imagine the replay is the last of the results we wanted although we have been far better away than at home this season I imagine the game will be similar to today which is not a game style that suits us.

Would like to go on record that I was pretty much the only Town fan that said Luton would be a better away day/tie than Wigan.

Great result though, we're inevitably going to get a plum 5th round draw and then lose the replay though. Luton's away form us very good and our home form is patchy at best.

What an assist from Orsi for the equaliser by the way.
