I wanted them drawn against each other
The FA probably didn't!

Be likes 2011 I think it was where they played each other in the semi finals and winner played Stoke or 2019 when one of them will get through and hammer the finalists (well actually Brighton are much better than we were so if they got there wouldn't lose 6-0)

What the fuckkkkk like

Insane team. They just go to the death this lot. Absolute big game players. The temptation might be to give it to the Town fans but honestly this lot on the pitch are the ones that deserve it. An outrageous performance. They have fucking spanked it today our lot. I'm so so so proud of them.

They're perfectly entitled to. This is a cracking result for them, and reaching the Quarter Finals is a phenomenal achievement.

Not sure I like them getting such a result ahead of Saturday!
Erm, the result wasn’t Eden done when I made that post. I was referring to the tweets during the match.

But I’m sure they are glad you’ve given them your blessing.

Grimsby’s Twitter admin is going a bit over the top with it all

What a night. Long term it doesn’t mean as much as the playoff final last season did but that is probably the biggest win I’ve seen for us in my lifetime. Southampton are pretty crap but they’re still better than all teams in this division. We absolutely rode our luck (4 times) but we’ve had enough shit that it felt nice to finally get some decisions go our way (love VAR btw). Can’t wait for a bump down to Earth with a loss to Carlisle on Saturday!

VAR 4 Grimsby 2, Southampton 1. Great result all round. The ref was so much better than we are all used to, but still needed VAR to help decide the major decisions (which all went in our favour).

I really believe if division 4 had VAR we'd be in the play-offs or not far off, so crap have been our officials.

If it was a NL league side doing this the whole country would be spunking their crackers about what a brilliant league it is so i will just say that this result just shows how much depth and quality there is in L2 :animatedf:

Just got in after the drive home from hell after road closures everywhere, don’t give a fuck though, so worth it.
What those boys have achieved there this club will never do again so fantastic that I was there to witness it with my lad and a load of his mates.
When I was their age I was spoilt with Championship football but they have only known National League or League 2 but they go every week up and down the country following GTFC passionately and I’m so pleased for them that they got to witness that last night.
Nights like that make all the years and years of utter shite worth it.
Up the History making mariners.

I'm glad we don't have VAR, I barely watch top level football because of it. It's a load of fuckin shite.

Agreed,

Just look at stuff the last month, that man utd goal that wasn’t offside against city (when it really blatantly was)
Brentford’s equaliser against arsenal when they forgot to draw the line (like the main purpose of VAR)

Yet it seems to work well in europe.

Not saying this to take anything away from Grimsby who have done brilliant, I’ll always back a lower league side in these cases(exceptions chesterfield, Salford etc) but christ Southampton are a pathetic excuse of a premier league side.

Who do you lot want next then? Old Trafford surely? Get that £££. Edit just seen - Brighton away, could be worse I suppose!

that’s the problem, it’s easily the worst tie they could’ve got given they’re all on tv.

You’d be gutted if you got brighton away in the 3rd round let alone the qtr final!

Add in Stevenage winning at Villa and us beating Brentford on pens in the League Cup. Not sure if there are others from this season?

Shame about Grimsby resorting to dirty time wasting tactics though to slow the game down, feigning injuries etc for the pen. Worst side I’ve seen for that this season and didn’t paint league 2 in a good light. Cracking win though so fair play.

Brighton will be taking the game seriously as well. It is a bit of a shit draw, I still think of Brighton as a L1/L2 outfit but I'm sure they'll have a good day out anyways.

Does losing at home to Everton U23 6-0 count?

I said before the draw I didn’t care who we got, the fact we’re in the FA Cup Quarter Fucking Finals is more than enough for me.

Feel quite emotional about it, it’s probably the hangover but we’ll probably never see the like in our lifetimes. History made yet again from these players, they always, always turn up for big occasions.

Onto Brighton…

I do totally agree with this, but thankfully it worked massively in our favour last night, without it we don’t get the first pen and Walcott’s goal doesn’t get disallowed.
Up the VAR!! :woo:

Yep we were exactly the same last night, the draw had already been done before we got to our car and we didn’t care who we got we were all just so happy that we got to experience a night like that.
For me this was the best GTFC result ever, even tops Liverpool away because of what they have achieved with this result and the way that we could replay that game 10 times over and we would lose every one but last night just everything and every decision went for us.
When McAtee fucked up the one on one and then within a minute or two it was 2-2 and that sick feeling knowing we had blown it, only for VAR to save our arse it was like the stars all aligned for us and it was just meant to be.
A night none of us will ever forget and I was really emotional too and still am a bit this morning, hence this post waffling on. :)

Fantastic win and well done to the 4000+ who went. The result should ensure that noe of them are sacked.

Luke Waterfall has already beaten Brighton in the FA Cup before...!

Speaking of him, he's had some great seasons/days out for a player who's generally flitted between L2 and NL. He's played in two cup finals at Wembley (lost with Wrexham, won with us), won the NL, won L2, lost and won in the PO's and now got to the QF's of the FA Cup twice!
