1-0 Gills at half time, should be more but we’re shit. We’re making bloody hard work of it when we do make a chance.

How’s Dom Jeffries doing for you this season? We released him a couple of years ago.

He’s only started 4 times so I’ve yet to make my mind up on him, but obviously he’s still young so might make an impression if he gets a run in the team.

Anyway, won 1-0 in the end in one of the most turgid games ever known to man.

After the debacle at Weymouth a week last Saturday, we finally got through beating them 3-1. Judging from twitter, we weren't all that first half but another Assal goal - what a gem he is despite his frequent yellow cards - and two from Ethan Chislett within a couple of minutes of him coming off the bench. I was at work and had to make do with Radio Solent's commentary for the second half. You could hear their increasing despondency.

Last night's replay probably about sums up the L2 v NL thing. If a league side had as many chances as Solihull last night, they score 3 or 4.

Either way, we probably did well to get through. Their budget is almost certainly bigger than ours.

Disagree that it would sum up L2 VS NL but agree you did well to get through.

Not seen that Solihull team sheet from yesterday but I'd suggest Dallas, Sbarra, Barnett, Kelly who are generally their front players would get in a good number League Two teams.

From the highlights, the pool keeper should be playing in the premier league with the number of saves he made. Don’t tell me he was the same clown that played at Stevenage on Saturday.

Could would should but these are players that failed to punish us for errors in both games. These things get put away up here more. Admittedly at theirs we fluffed a few good openings as well but pretty much one way traffic last night.

As for Killip, he can be a very good shot stopper but is very weak at balls in the box, organising the defence etc. Fair play for bouncing back but moving forward we need a more commanding keeper.

I don’t think anyone has questioned Killip’s shot stopping, he’s excellent, it’s just everything else that you want from a keeper he doesn’t have, constantly twats the ball out for s throw in from goal kicks, won’t come for crosses and if he ever does venture off his line he flaps at them which generally lead to a easy goal for the oppo, for every supposed point he’s won us this season I’d bet a Killip individual howler has cost us more.

You say that, but Solihull scored 3 past you in 2 games which is about on par with what you've been leaking in the league this season. Not many sides have scored more than 1 at your place. Dallas missed a sitter in the playoff final vs us but I'd still have him here in a shot. As I would Sbarra, Barnett and Kelly. Like Stocky says they'd all get in a lot of sides and be good squad players for everyone at this level at the very least.

No one doubts that there are really good individuals at NL league level and a lot of them would walk into a lot of teams here, it's the overall squads that struggle with the climb up a league, you might've already seen it yourself at Grimsby, players who looked good to decent in the NL are average to poor in League 2, I know we've seen it in some of our players when they stepped up, that's the difference for me.

We were crap last night and they deserved to go through for my money, but them's the breaks.

I'd say on the whole more of the players we had last season that are still playing regularly have stepped up and are performing more than vice versa. Harry Clifton is playing the best football of his career by a long way, Waterfall and Smith look as comfortable at CB (Waterfall looks immeasurably better than the season before last when we went down from L2), same for Kieran Green from what I saw of him last season, Gav Holohan is a bit of a weird one as we've seen probably his best two or three performances in a Town shirt but also probably his worst few as well, Crocombe in net has hardly put a foot wrong, McAtee came back and scored within about 10 mins of being on the pitch last weekend...the only ones I'd say that what you said rings true of are perhaps Efete and Taylor. Efete is finding his feet though and is perhaps more solid defensively and Taylor is a 34 year targetman who gets battered every single match and played 40+ games last season. I reckon you'd probably have a point if we saw more of Amos and Cropper but they've been bench fodder.

I'm definitely not disagreeing though just running through our lot. I don't think there's a definitive answer to this really. Can see the argument from both sides. The players I've listed above could well end up dipping in form as the season goes on too, but right now they're holding their own (well...other than the last three matches haha).

You may well be right but apart from Sbarra, none of them have pedigree at higher levels than the NL, playing devil's advocate it's hard to tell if they'd all cut it.

Despite the fact that people bang on about how great the NL is compared to the standard in L2, Solihull failed to twice beat possibly the worst side in our history and they'll be disappointed with that.

Realistically this level, while the games are tighter and possibly less entertaining, it is better in terms of fitness/tactically, there's more quality at both ends of the park *generally*. Your solid non league clogger (Ryan Johnson classic example, great at the basics, can't read the game gets found out) would generally fall short here but the leading players down there would certainly compete in the league.

On the flipside, if we do go down and most of these players are still here then we could compete if these two games are owt to go on. Obviously I hope that doesn't happen.

Ben Killip had, in his words, "probably the best game of his career". That, and some indifferent finishing, separated us from a rout as they ran past our flat defence at will. If you replayed that game ten times, with those chances, I reckon we'd lose by 2-3 goals in almost all of them. We got very very lucky, and while I would rather get luck like that in a league game, I'll take anything offered.

Yeah, it's definitely a fair point regarding those players not being guaranteed to be decent at this level. Dallas in particular, I think would be most likely to struggle. Purely because strikers are probably more susceptible to dropping back down the divisions, Luke Charman probably being the most recent example. Have to say Sbarra has constantly impressed me every time I've seen him, one of the best players at that level that I'd be very surprised to see him fail up here. Barnett I've not seen as much of admittedly, but was arguably their best player in the playoff final. Kelly I'd be buzzing if we signed, the fact that he went to Solihull in the summer consolidates how much budget they do have as he should have been nailed on for a L2 move.

Not sure if isolated cup games are a decent gauge of whether or not you'd compete. What I would say though is that your results are picking up a bit it seems and Solihull are currently in a bit of a rut. If you went down and kept hold of Umerah that'd be a massive recruitment headache solved as he'd bag loads for a decent team back down there. As you know though, it's the constant grind of shithousing and parking the bus by all those Dog and Duck lot and how you deal with that as much as it anything else that determines how well you do. You've also got to get behind whoever doesn't go up out of Chesterfield, Wrexham and Notts in the queue. There's no denying there was a exceedingly big slice of fortune in us skipping that queue last season. I hope you don't drop though, not with the unrest you're dealing with off the pitch.

Could do with Salford getting dragged into extra time and penalties tonight. Clutching at straws but it might make it more of a leveller on Saturday if they are knackered.

I know there's only half of us in action this weekend but I didn't expect it to be this quiet

The Mighty VITA Hatters travel to Sarf Landan to take on Charlton at The Valley. Hosts in questionble form wiith only one win in the last seven, reckon we'll drag them to a replay

I went to pick mine up around lunch time today and bloke in front me was told none left but never any announcement they were all gone so not sure. I know it’s not far but considering the train strike aswell it’s a great effort.
