No doubt Salford on the tv again. Probably the Stand out game as in David v Goliath
Another Man U wankfest
Have to question how a step 3 club has a capacity of 1400 when the league stipulate 1950 minimum. Kidderminster got refused entry to the football league over ground rules. How come it's different for Salford? Fuck me. Most clubs have a minimum capacity of 2000 even at step 6.

I'd imagine the capacity is higher without segregation, as the 1,400 is a 'restricted to' figure. Hard to get any hard facts on their unsegregated capacity.

As for the second question, they're not (yet) trying to get into the League so using Kidderminster is an odd example. However, I would guess it comes down to the league. There have been several good clubs kicked down the divisions for not adhering to ground requirements to the letter, so it'll be interesting to see where they go next. It doesn't take much to reach these capacity figures with a dab of hard standing and the odd porta-terrace. I remember Histon being allegedly up to league standard and it had 4 rows of seats on one side, a few portable terraces and a supposed capacity of 5,000+. It can be a complete nonsense at times.

Just about the worst possible draw imaginable IMO. 230 miles away, and we are scoring at less than a goal per game, so the Colchester defensive record isn't really a comfort.

Honestly, anything is possible with our defence!

Is it as bad as the figures suggest? I mean, it's leaky in the context of league 1, but we haven't scored more than 2 goals in a game for (by my reckoning) 34 National League games. Do you 1-0 defeats?

Understand what you Are saying but, when Salford got promoted last year why did they not do anything to the ground? Surely it has to be signed off to step up?
Truro, Histon Stafford and countless other clubs erected temp seating to comply with rules. Salford have one stand and grassy banks behind the goal. I'm sure you are correct Unsegregated you could get more in by people standing on the banks but that's not the point. The capacity is 1400 and that's it. It's not 1950.
If they are serious about promotion and getting to the football league like Neville suggests, then rather than spending 400 quid a week on players wages trying building a decent infrastructure or you will end up like Histon.

Judging by the documentary that's been on, it has been improved from where they were before. I'm no expert on Salford City but I'd wager there's plans afoot to improve it further (as they will have to). I'd be more suprised if there wasn't announcement in the not-too-distant future that they've found a site for a full new build.

I do completely get where you're coming from, equally, it's the FA Cup so you can't beat them with the restricted capacity stick if they meet league requirements on non-exceptional occasions.

The last statement is the key one - Infrastructure will have to be addressed for them to progress. It's easy to be a big fish (monetarily speaking) in a small pond, but making it sustainable is something everyone from Rushden to Histon to Salford has struggled with.

It is pretty poor! One of the main reasons we survived last season was the signing of an experienced centre half (Bongani Khumalo) and it was the main priority in the summer. We failed a bit in that regard, and it has shown. We've also suffered quite a number of injuries at the back causing a very young, unsettled back four (five if you account for the loanee goalkeeper too), and play with attack-minded full backs which leaves us exposed. I generally have little confidence when the opposition enters our half.

We don't really do 0-1 defeats though as we are excellent going forward - I would expect us to score two or three against non-league opposition with all respect to you. We've scored two or more goals in something like 10 of the last 13 games, with a few threes, a four and a six in there. The only problem is usually we need to score two or three to give ourselves a chance of getting anything haha.

I said before the first round draw that I fancy us against anyone at home and I'm sticking by that. This is will be a tough match though, wouldn't be surprised to see it go to a replay or be won by a single goal. Based purely on starts to the season/current form, I would much prefer this season's Shrewsbury at home to last season's. Not basing that on anything other than form often being a factor in these types of matches. Perhaps it's not a fair assessment, Shrewsbury fans? How are you lot playing this season?

Stourbridge home or away for me. I work with 3 of their fans who are mouthy about their chances against us so that would be a nice one. In reality I guarantee we will draw a League 1 side away from home. :-(

Bang on sir.

I think it will be a tight game and certainly not a tie I fancied as a Shrewsbury fan. Our biggest problem this season is that we haven't had a settled side or formation, with what seems at least 2 changes every week. Our away form started off ok, but has severely tailed off, the last league away game at Vale being one of the worst performances I've seen in a while. There is some talent in the squad tho, just a case of bringing it out.

How has Disley been performing for Grimsby? Must have been with you a good few years now.

Stourbridge away would have been a great draw. Probably on TV as well. Then again if we had fluked a way past Eastleigh, we would only embarrassed ourselves on TV vs Stourbridge, its probably best were out on 2nd thoughts.

Yep, we never seem to get any luck with cup draws. All the League 2 and non-league clubs out there and we get League 1 opposition in both rounds! Just a hunch but dont really fancy our chances in this after such a bad draw. Never say never though.

It's our first home draw in the last eight I think in all competitions. Hopefully you keep winning in the league and aren't too bothered about it.

Sensible pricing to make it £12.

We have generally been shit at home this season up to now and you sit proudly at the top of the league, it might not be a very interesting tie but i wouldn't call it a bad draw for you lot by any means, you'll start as favourites.

Good to see that the club have priced it sensibly as well, might pull in an half-decent crowd now.

Since 97/98 - I'm pretty sure we've only got to the 3rd round once and we got thrown out for fielding a player that wasn't ours on a technicality.

Cup competitions suck.

Rochdale v Bury is a really shit pick for a TV game. Thought Welling v Carlisle would have been shown.

I know there wasn't too many stand-out ties to pick from but it would have been nice if the BBC had chose to go somewhere other than Salford again, they've had their 15 minutes of fame, move on.

Agree, welling v carlisle should be on without a doubt. Rochdale v bury is a horrendous pick.

Rochdale vs Bury, a local derby, is clearly not a "horrendous" pick when looking at the whole list of ties you stupid bastard

As i said welling v carlisle should be on. Non league vs a league team, thats what the fa cup is all about not 2 extremely small league one clubs who play each other all the time and absolutely no one could give a shit who wins so no one will have any interest in watching it, its a poor pick from bt.

You'd soon change your tune if you played Wednesday... Anyway there will be loads of viewers from the North West tuning in.

Bury v Rochdale has been on TV 3 out of the last 5 years, so the viewing figures must be decent for such a "horrendous" pick.

The £72000 for being on BT Sport will be very welcome but I find myself increasingly in agreement with the people from FCUM about how the FA Cup is being devalued.

The third round draw will already have been made by the time we kick off at Blundell Park and that should only happen when games have been postponed on their originally scheduled date.

Also, why not schedule Rochdale v Bury on the Monday night as that wouldn't really inconvenience either set of fans and schedule our game at Grimsby on the Sunday afternoon.

As usual the fans are the last people to be considered.
