I'm not sure I want an enticing draw ahead of our 2nd round replay defeat. That will make it all the more annoying.

Cant understand all this animosity towards your manager. Prior to your coming to VP, your letters were making you out to be champions elect.

At the start of the season we were superb, injuries to key players haven't helped (Andoh and Inniss being the two main ones) but he has gone uber negative away from home and seems a dead man walking, personally after the league form of late it would be harsh if he does go but what will happen is anyones guess at the moment.

Very poor from Town so far who are giving the ball away for fun, Grimsby having more of the ball but a poor game overall. Happy to go in 0-0 at half time.

Unfortunately the first half saw Town keeper Jayson Leutwiler stretchered off after bravely diving at the feet of the Grimsby player Townsend.

Rubbish performance by Town, but we're still in it and can (hopefully) only play an awful lot better in the replay.

Slept through first half, thought we should have had that in the second though. Just not sharp enough in front of goal. A couple of penalty calls, one for each side. Both fairly valid. Lack of appeal of a plum 3rd round tie might suit us in the replay, but would expect Shrewsbury to impose themselves on the tie much more.

Very quiet crowd tonight, too.

Grimsby should have won that tonight without a doubt. You might win at the Meadow in the replay but I think that's a big opportunity missed from your perspective and we could have had no complaints if we'd been comfortably beaten.

Abysmal coverage, by the way. Nobody actually at the ground, thus no post match interview?

Grimsby were by far the better team for the majority of the match. Both teams had their decent chances and like Son of Cod has said there was two valid penalty shouts too. Bogle looked very lively when he came on and I think we should have brought him on a lot earlier to give him chance to settle in to the game and bag a goal.

Yeah, that was there for the taking but we can only blame ourselves. Completely agree, we will probably regret those missed opportunities. We went for it with 3 strikers on at the end. Thought Conor Townsend did well and I'm hoping 'ull might end up giving up on him and letting us take him on full time. Don't know about you lot, but another game in the schedule isn't ideal for us. I thought Akpa Akpro was nailed onto score when he came off the bench!

Definitely. It's like I said about Bogle, if he had come on sooner, he would of relaxed into the flow of the game and probably bagged a goal.

Just me who really enjoyed it then lol?
Ilove those cup tie atmospheres, proper edge to it just what I like when we are playing a higher placed team.
I left BP really happy that despite the result, the performance was excellent and Shrews will know that they have been in one hell of a battle
If only we didn't try to walk the ball in the net once or twice.....

Might have sounded quiet on tv SOC but the Ponny was rocking tonight, great atmosphere in there, had we scored the roof would've come off!

Surprised by that, perhaps it was louder in the first half before I woke up? Could hear a pin drop at times in the second, which was disappointing as Blundell Park usually sounds good on TV. Pontoon was almost full though, so looking at the attendance and the Main Stand during the game, I can't imagine there was much noise coming from The Findus Stand, which is where the main mic pickups are located I think?

Yeah thinking about it it was definately louder first 30 mins first half, then again in the last 15 second half when we upped the pressure.
Just watched the highlights back and didn't realise how close Jones came at the end with that rocket, from the Ponny it looked well over, but it nearly skimmed the bar.

... or we could play even worse!

An unbelievably inept and embarrassing performance by Town tonight. :ffs:

Absolutely gutted. Completely against the run of play. Grimsby were the better team over the two games and we were robbed.

Last thing we wanted with fixtures clogging up - a replay and one with extra time! 3k there tonight, including 334 from Chesterfield - good gate for a midweek replay and a shit next round tie.

Sounds as though we have had the better of things, with Chesterfield only having 1 shot.

Can't score again though and penalties are not our thing.

So of course, Walsall win, scoring all 5. Keep up this pessimism, it seems to be working. :2thumb:

That's the point ;).
Check our penalty record our before tonight, in the last decade it's been beyond ghastly.
We didn't need the extra time though. Not looking forward to Brentford.

Our fans will give him shit, it will look bitter and they will probably beat us allowing Smith to get his 'that's why I'm here and not at Walsall' moment with 2 fingers up. Seems totally pointless that people are actually interested in the game.

Well we put those pesky non-leaguers in their place tonight with a comprehensive victory! Never any doubt.

In all seriousness that was absolute daylight robbery. I'd be gutted as a Grimsby fan, better team for 180 minutes. I don't remember a meaningful save that their keeper made over the 2 games, and took a good finish totally out of the blue from an unlikely scorer in Ogogo to steal it.

Good noise from the Grimsby fans for most of the night too. All the best for the ready of the season and hopefully they are back in the league soon. You didn't want a trip to Cardiff anyway!

That was probably one of the worst matches I have ever been to... it's definitely up there. The most entertainment before penalties was how bad James Baxendale was in his 15 minute cameo. Not only was he laughably poor, but he actually changed the game in that he actually moved around and broke into a jog - he fucked it up when he got the ball mind you.

Deserved that though as Chesterfield did nothing but defend, didn't look interesting in scoring whatsoever.

You didn't play well, but you scored when you was on top and killed us off quickly, which was what we didn't do in the first half when we had most of the game - story of our season. Third goal I can take as we pushed everyone forward.
