We're in the unusual situation it seems, of being the only club in League Two who will be favourites going into the 3rd round... so no upsets here thank you very much.

The money is much needed mate, maybe now we can bring in a decent striker in January, the majority of it though will go towards paying off the debt our previous owner left us with though we are close now to breaking even at last and will be able to tell Steve Hayes to piss off and ban him from the ground the fucking shark!

....... All we have are Hunter Davies (who also supports Tottenham), Melvyn Bragg (who also supports Arsenal) and Helen Skelton (who has worn a United top for a photoshoot, but not sure if she actually cares about football). Think the most famous Carlisle fan at the moment is probably the lad off the Royal Navy advert.
You may be stretching it to claim wor la'l Skelts (farmer's daughter from Kirkby Thore, so actually a Westmorland lass) but she's definitely got some knowledge of and interest in football. I've still got the recording of our play-off, with her interviewing Richard Money - TV Gold.

Her brother Gavin started with you and has 8 appearances, but he's probably now got more affinity with Workington (42 and 36 appearances before managing them for a year) or Barrow (82 appearances). He played for Gretna 200 times in the money days. I think he's now Assistant Manager at QoS.

Her fella, Richie Myler, has just moved from Warrington Wolves to Catalan Dragons, so that's another pull away from Brunton Park.

I don't think she's a United fan either... but Westmorland is definitely within our catchment area, so that alone doesn't exclude her.

you serious?
Yeah...
For adults & concessions in our main stand it's £38. £32 for under 18s.
For adults & concessions in our family stand it's £28. £23 for under 18s.
For adults & concessions in the Big Bank it's £23. £18 for under 18s.

Christ... what are the normal prices?
For our average league game it's:

Main Stand:
Adults: £24
Senior: £20
U18/Student: £10

Family Stand:
Adults: £20
Senior: £16
U18/Student: £6

Big Bank:
Adults: £16
Senior: £13
U18/Student: £5

So as you can see, a pretty massive increase.

Why, just why piss off your own fans*? You'll get £144k from TV, plus extra from sponsors/advertisers (maybe), food, bars, programmes, etc. Struggling to understand this decision.

* not to mention away fans. You could argue Liverpool fans are used to being ripped off but your away end is almost as bad as ours!

Surprisingly, not as many as you would think.

A lot of people (myself included) did want an increase in price. These games don't come around very often and as you only receive 45% of gate receipts in the FA Cup it's really about maximising your income. We know how profitable cup games can be. However, in saying this, I wasn't expecting nor was I wanting such a massive increase. An additional £5-10 on top of the regular league game price would have been fine but for me it is obvious the club have gone overboard with the pricing, especially with the main stand & for students/u18s across the ground. For a father and son in the main stand it would cost £70 for the pair to attend and on our forum, one who falls into this category has said that he will not be going. He won't be the only one who decides this.

And yes, as stated above, we are also on telly and by pocketing £144k, it makes the huge increases even more baffling.

It's definetly a balancing act but as you say the increase is baffling. I find it quite obnoxious from your board tbh. Obviously you will sell out but it seems a shame that supporters who pay the bills year round are being priced out.

Absolutely. It doesn't seem right that those with the season tickets who turn up to every match, every year will not be going. It is their choice to attend but as mentioned above, who really would want to spend £70 on an adult + u18 ticket to the football, especially when it's being shown on tv.

Before the prices were announced, our chairman released a statement on the matter.

"We are doing everything we can to ensure that loyal Exeter City fans are the first priority when it comes to tickets for the Emirates FA Cup match against Liverpool at St James Park.

“At the same time, we must also ensure that the club takes the opportunity to maximise the benefits from the match, in turn further securing the club's future as numerous ongoing challenges may then be addressed. The list is long, but advancement of the Academy, as well as all aspects of infrastructure work but particularly improvements to the Cliff Hill Training Ground and the proposed development of St James Park, to mention just a few, are hugely important steps if we are to keep the supporters-owned club dream alive.

“Fans might note that the club will only receive forty-five per cent of the income generated by the fixture, and for a big event like this there will be a significant policing bill. When all of these things are taken into consideration, it can then be seen that it is sensible to reflect these factors into the pricing plans.

"Cognisant that our fans face a price increase for this match, the club is currently considering a variety of measures over future months and games that will provide our regular supporters with opportunities to recoup some of the extra charges necessarily made as outlined above."

I can appreciate we have a lot we may need to improve but it makes me wonder what exactly we're doing and how much we're spending. We sold a player for £1.75mill less than a year ago so the excuse that we need to squeeze as much money out of the fans as possible doesn't really wash with me.

Not the best for you by a long way, but surely still better than away to some League One or Championship club who still aren't very glamorous but will almost certainly beat you.

The worst draw in the cup is another team in the same division as you. If they're flipping miles away as well that just tops it off.

Don't Liverpool give clubs in a lower league all the gate receipts? Not sure if true but I'm sure that was said when we played them.

Even still hiking the prices up like that is scandalous behaviour IMO. Not only is it ripping off your own fans but the Liverpool fans who probably travel away every game as they'll have to to even have a chance of getting a ticket, In the away end anyway.

We got 240,000 in gate receipts from them this season, but it wasn't mentioned whether or not this was the entire gate receipt. Fantastic gesture if true, but then you'd think the media would have reported that.

I'm actually all for the price hikes. It's much needed revenue.

We wont see half these plastic supporters again so best to take the money while you can. The club needs the cash, we'd be naive not to make the most of the opportunity.
I don't care about Liverpool, I do care about the gate receipt and finances of our club however.

Could offer a discount then to people with season tickets (which I imagine they already do) or who have been to more than 5 or so home games this season (which I imagine they don't)... would be a way to make money off the plastics without pissing off the regulars.

Agreed mate. We've put our ticket prices up for Aston Villa but only by £3 which no right minded supporter of a fan owned club like yourselves can moan about that surely especially as we have one of the cheapest match day tickets in League 2.

bare in mind that it's still cheaper to go see us play Liverpool than it is to go to see Orient away.... (excluding the travel costs!)

Are you seriously comparing a home game in Exeter to some team from the north of England; to a day out at Brisbane Road to see the blocks of flats in the corners, or watch the magic of Ollie Palmer playing live right in front of you? That's like comparing an evening in Blackpool to a week in the Seychelles.

Last season we bumped our prices up for Man U, something along the lines of:

Standing - £16 up to £20
Seating - £19-£20 up to £25-£30

The best but about it was that we gave Man U the seated end and therefore they got charged £30 each. :)

It's a difficult position for a club like us or Exeter - you need to milk it but you don't want to be seen to rip people off either.

We raised other funds by giving priority to season ticket holders, then half season ticket holders (£153 each, sold 1,000 or so of them), we sold 22 mascot places at £500 each, walk out tops, corporate packages, sponsorship for the rest of the season etc. Then the replay was the icing as it blew all of that out the water.

With Swansea sacking their manager it is clear that they are very worried about a potential cupset. Will predict a 3-0 victory to the Yellows and also for the highlights show to be scrapped so we can see another doc about Salford City.
