Oh, your number 3 was very good, in the first half all your threatening ball came through him. And Dembele is very pleasing to the eye.
Seriously? From the sounds of our commentary and fans, it sounded like Carey was killing him in the first half. Been consistently our worst player all season.

Good unexpected win over Oldham for us.

We were excellent for most of the first hour.

Then after that was the most fucktarded negative approach to seeing out a 3-0 lead I think I’ve ever seen. Everything we were doing well, pressing high, closing players down... we stopped and sat back, then made a negative substitution that left our striker completely isolated. Could easily be looking at a replay here after that from Curle, the fucking clown.

Relieved and happy to have won 3-2. Really pleased for Richie Bennett, he’s been shit for us but last week and today he now looks like a footballer and has 3 in 2.

Hopefully a kinder draw in the next round, one of the part timers please.

Are we talking about the same player, your right back? Carey spent most of his time terrorising your left back.

Pelly has had 2 games to reinstall himself back into contention for an automatic recall ......
Apart from a potential goal saving tackle today I don’t think he’s done anything to change my opinion of him.....

Happy that this week has left us around £100k richer than we were last week, £67k for the tv money, £18k for qualification to the 2nd round and the gate money.

Pleased to have avoided the upset, a good number of teams in this league would have come unstuck at shaw lane

Our game felt like a reserve game throughout. Apart from 100 away fans in the opposite stand, we only opened one stand so there was no atmosphere at all - literally a deathly silence for the whole first half with everyone mingled together. Horrible experience.

On the pitch we completely controlled the game in the first half but missed a number of glorious chances. The play was so pedestrian though, we had no real tempo or urgency to it and it was mostly passing it back and forth, sideways between ourselves and finding no way to break them down.

They scored 37 seconds after half-time which made it ten times harder to then break them down in the second half. We were totally listless, nobody was making any runs, no movement, no clear chances created. Oxford improved in that second half but it was definitely the sort of game where, had we broken the deadlock earlier on in the first half, we'd have scored four or five.

The fact that we named a completely unchanged side makes it all the more embarrassing though!

I thought we were in for a hiding in the first 15/20 minutes, looked completely inferior. A goal against the run of play and we grew into the game, even if 3-0 was flattering.

If we'd failed to win that with half an hour left, I'd have wanted Curle out right away. Shocking tactics when we were cruising, handed them a way back into it and made it a nervy finish.

Good match and progress into Round Two, can't complain.

We were an embarrassment today. In 4 of the last 5 seasons we've now lost to teams from the league below, that was by some distance the worst of the lot:

13/14 - Tamworth (a) - 0-1 - we were poor first half and went a goal down - 2nd half did everything but score but just one of those days
14/15 - Dover (h) - 0-1 - we were the better team for large chunks, but the Buckle regime had taken over and the writing was on the wall - still disappointing
16/17 - Sutton (a) - 1-2 - we took the lead and were cruising, conceded early in the 2nd half and ended up losing to a last minute goal
17/18 - Maidstone (h) - 2-4 - shambles from minute 1, even then at 4-1 down they went down to 10 men and it became like the Alamo. We get another back and have 20 mins or so to get another 2, cue Kevin Dawson stupidly leaving his foot in on the Stones' keeper and getting sent off basically killing any faint (and undeserved) hope we might have had.

Funnily enough, in 14/15 in the first round we beat Swindon (who were League 1 at the time) 5-0 and in 16/17 battered Crewe 4-1 away in a replay. So it must be the fact that we thought we simply only had to turn up and roll over the team from the lower division.

Absolute disgrace from the lot of them today. Well done Maidstone - you were by far the better team and I hope you go on a good cup run to really rub salt in the wound.

Our turn to fuck up tomorrow maybe. Surely we can’t fail to get past the first round yet again.

We're away at Guiseley who have 4 ex Stanley players in their squad. Since being in the league we haven't yet lost to a non-league side so hopefully won't start tomorrow.
Apparently we've sold nearly 500 tickets. Has FA Cup fever hit Accrington??

Comfortable win, think Macclesfield had 1 decent shot all game. Dominated possession and looked very solid defensively. Pretty easy in the end, never felt like they were going to get back in it.

Fans can't complain about the magic of the cup being lost and not turn up to support it.
Something has to be done this once great competition is nearly on a par with the league cup in terms of attracting fans. Looked at some 3rd round attendances last year ; Hull v Swansea 6608, Crystal Palace V Bolton 7149, Norwich v Southampton 12479, Yesterday Blackburn attracted 3710, Wigan 3288.
When I started following Luton the FA cup was huge and gates were often more than the average you got for a league game. In the cases above they are way below half of the average league gate for these clubs. Had we'd played Portsmouth in the league yesterday (if we were in the same division of course) it would have been a sell out.
The only clubs who seem to take it seriously are non league. Lower league clubs get interested in round 3 and the championship and PL 5th round onwards if at all.
The magic of the FA cup is just a memory.

I think Stags fans are being generally harsh about our performance yesterday, for me it was never in doubt and really should have been one or two more.

Those sort of games are always difficult and I thought we generally dealt with it well.

Set pieces defending is a genuine big concern though.

Seems we have 2 central defenders back from injury for todays game at Solihull which is a relief,it means we'll only let in 2 but all our forwards besides Tyson are fit so we should be okay but after yesterdays results i'm not taking anything for granted. Ainsworth says he wants another good cup run so he'll be picking the strongest starting XI that's fully fit with only 6 players missing

Interesting quotes coming out of Kenny Jackett’s post match press conference following defeat at Luton.

“We knew we were up against it coming to Kenilworth Road. We felt that if we could get out of here with a 0-0 and get them back to Fratton Park, with a good week to 10 days to grow our grass, we could pull off a win in the replay”

“We can’t talk about luck – we have to make our own luck. We had a game plan to defend well and then grow the Fratton Park grass, but once we conceded a goal the whole plan was out of the window. Now we are out of the FA Cup, which is disappointing.”

This Sunday football is confusing but it's a bright sunny day with a nip in the air - perfect for a couple of pints before an afternoon kick-around with a few goals. Pity the result matters quite a bit really. Apparently a 400+ Amber Army will be travelling to watch the U's strut their stuff against the U's at the Abbey.

I couldn't bring myself to support Gorleston FC (The Greens) down the road at Histon yesterday, so I popped over to St Ives to watch City eventually put 4 past Fleet Town. It looks like they might just manage to get back in the Southern Premier in time for their move to Sawston - although they'll need to strengthen up front if they're going to manage to finish ahead of the Moneys (Moneyfields FC - formerly Portsmouth Civil Service Reserves) this season.

I asume (hope) today's team picks itself. I'm not aware of any injury issues, so it has to be the diamond to start with

Forde
Halliday, Legge, Taylor, Carroll
Deegan
Mingoia, Maris
Brown
Ibhere, Ikpeazu

I'm expecting Sutton to be well organised, well prepared and well up for it. Indifferent recent form is irrelevant. They'll be aware that our weakness tends to be down the left, whether Dunk or Carroll are playing, but are likely to struggle with our front two - their saving grace being our need for at least 10 chances per scoring shot.

I fear we may need a replay on their plastic pitch so 2 - 2 in front another disappointing FA Cup crowd of only 3,650. Then it's on to Accrington at home on Saturday, with a mid-week reserve match against Posh to give Mitov, Lewis, Amoo, Osadebe and our loanees Taft and Howkins a run out. Apparently Posh have almost sold out the South Stand for that one.

Well of course you do, that’s hardy a surprise if you live or have lived in or around Stoke on Trent for any length of time.

As for time all depends on how much time you want to admire our play off trophies and what level of fascination you have with the famous Anglo Italian Trophy when compared to Football League Trophy lol

I’d say a good 30 mins to take in all the history of the Worlds Oldest Professional League Club. Then nip across to the other football stadium across the water to see if they have won anything

It should be quite the day for you.

The fa cup is definitely not the same,
I reckon too much footy on tv is to blame.
The fa cup has simply lost its gloss and its prestige,
Mainly more attractive to teams from a lower league.
We've become much more of a couch potato nation,
With the bbc,sky and bt sports footage getting to oversaturation.
The times long gone when you wanted to keep local,
To support your team with your presence and by being vocal.
Crowd attendances certainly are dwindling on the whole,
Let's be honest football and especially the fa cup has lost its soul.
Fans will prefer to stay in if there's a chance to watch the top six,
Teams who are full of overpaid cheats and prima donna pricks.
Luton would historically have good crowds wearing their boaters,
Because the fa cup enabled those without season tickets to go..the floaters.
Where has the magic of the fa cup gone and why have attendances shrank?
In my opinion..you've got television football to thank!!
