I do think we will lose, but and its a big but, if we can perform like we did at MK Don's for the first 60 minutes, maybe nick a goal we could get a result.

I don't think Ardley will look to counter, he will not want to concede so I expect a similar formation to Sunderland away 4-5-1. With Mansfield having a strong midfield we will need to close down quickly. We will be probably be direct looking for set pieces in the final third.

I also think Stead will start with Ardley looking for him to get in at least 70 minutes. I wouldn't be surprised if he played Dennis up front with Stead joining the midfield, going forward for flick ons when we attack.

It will either be a comfortable home win or a battle with either side nicking it.

Like you say it’s 6th v 23rd, We should be winning this at home and I expect 3 points aswell but stranger things have happened in a game of football than 23rd beating 6th place away from home. Form and all the rest of it means sod all once the game starts so predicting a hard afternoon or even a loss for us doesn’t seem ‘pathetic’ to me.

Hoping we start this game like we did the Oldham/Mk games at home and get an early goal to settle us, Sounds like playing a strong 11 last night was the right thing to do as it was awful by all accounts so hopefully we’ve got that one out the way.

I’m not going to write Notts off, They’ve got some good players in the squad and if Ardley gets the best out of them then they’ll soon pull away from the bottom, You just know Nathan Thomas is going to turn up Saturday

Ahhhhh that’s better. They do say that recent/current form goes out of the window in a derby game, that is unless it’s this derby where the past form/results are somehow even more one sided.

We are 23rd for very strong reasons, a new manager (in time) can change things massively but he’s had nowhere near long enough nor a competitive match or two.

As for Thomas would be lovely if he did on any Saturday.

I’m happy with my money on at 1/2 home win , sadly

We are favourites no doubt, but more concerned about this match now than I would have been a month ago. Notts fans saying its ridiculous to point this out obviously haven't been paying much attention to results throughout the season. It may sound cliche but anyone really can beat anyone (Macc winning at Exeter springs to mind). Ardley will be happy with a point, and we are very poor at breaking teams down, so going to go for a damp squib of a 0-0.

Not a chance the 41 goals conceded already in the league says otherwise.

If Mansfield don’t score a minimum of 2 I would be in complete shock

It would be a surprise, Thomas has been absolutely awful. If he doesn’t contribute something soon, I think we’ll look at sending him back to Sheffield United in January.

Our only positives going into the game is a potential new manager response from the players with extra effort from the team and the return on one maybe two at a push of our injured stars .Although Stead is playing well this season , he’s never done too much against Mansfield . Having last weekend off gives Ardley the chance to put in a few extra training sessions in to help the shape and defence .

The negatives however far outweigh these, it’s Mansfield, it’s away , its where we usually lose comfortably . It’s an in form team on a long undefeated streak in the league versus horribly out of form , its 6th vs 23rd , plus we have more key injuries currently ! It’s game we never perform in whereas almost always Mansfield are really up for it regardless of league positions !

Apart from all that it should be a close niggerly competitive derby haha
Sorry enzio but ,NIGGERLY oh my god

Once our fans start getting on his case after about 22 seconds Saturday that will be all the motivation he needs

How’s Kane Hemmings been doing?

Picked up tickets today, going expectations zero, polar opposite of last season's fixture so hoping maybe reverse psychology might just work. Enzio, Hemmings, Alexandro, all big misses for us.

I think people are forgetting that a week isn't long enough for us to magically become a team capable of not conceding bucket loads of goals. Derby or no derby we are trash.

I expect it will be a routine home win by a good 3 goal margin at least. We might score one to make it interesting but our team regularly capitulates, usually in the last ten minutes.

Enzio for obvious reasons , can pull a rabbit out the hat and score something out of nothing. Alessandra is the really (positive) surprise this season, far more effective than all of last season bar about 3 games again a big loss. And Hemmings who although has continued his average at best / poor goal scoring form , has impressed in the other parts of the game for a forward and just what is needed away from home against his former teammates

I haven’t forgotten , no Notts fan should forget . Artificial positivity is restricted to our friends from up the A60

As previously stated I’ve bet a big sum on a home win at poor but accurate odds

Is Hemmings still incapable of finishing sitters? I have a mate that’s unfortunate to support Notts and apperantly I was spot on about him (obviously) good at leading the line but Christ he does not know where the onion bag is.

Hope he doesn’t play Saturday mind ;) nor any other ex players quite frankly.

He’s 26 there should be few surprises now as a player. His good and bad attributes should be well known by all that have seen him play.

I’d be surprised he played sadly. How old’s your Pie supporting mate?

Hemmings has been one of the better summer signings, missed the odd sitter for sure as most L2 strikers will but certainly not ‘1in 6’ like some Stags fans said. He’s got 5 in the league including a couple of smart finishes, missed a pen and rattled the woodwork from range on two(?) occasions I think. Would probably be pushing double figures if he hadn’t got injured at Vale on Nov 3, so not doing too bad when you take into account his other play in leading the line, as you say, and linking midfield and attack.

We’ve missed him since he got injured and I wish he was playing Saturday. May well be Stead and Dennis up front together, not sure that’s a combination we’ve played yet tbh.

Who said he was a 1 in 6? Think he got 15 in around 40 games for Mansfield. He’s a good player, not worth what you paid/paying him like but incredibly frustrating in front goal.

We are probably even more frustrating in front of goal this season to be honest, because we create that many chances. We have got that good at creating but also that shite at finishing you would not even believe it without witnessing it.

That is strange your loan signing who was more guilty than most of missing good chances goes back to his parent club and this season’s team are even more guilty of wasteful finishing ! Luckily you are clearly creating shed loads of chances (n missing) which is much more preferable than creating next to sod all each game.

Who’s chief culprit this term Conks?

His initial touch was pretty decent, just he was abysmal at everything else. Walker is better, but not by much - and doesn't hold the ball up as well.

I’ve tried to forget last season but did we create that much? To say Hemmings didn’t have a pre season behind him and he came to us 5/6 games in so was always going to start slow. I don’t think 15 goals was a bad return, He’d have had a few this season IMO but nevermind. Walker and Rose have both been equally as wasteful for me but like someone else said, At least we are creating the chances, They’ll both get one Saturday...

I hope

I’ve been really impressed by Hemmings, but he does miss some fairly easy chances for sure. All a trade off though as the rest of his game is of a higher level, so his finishing is the reason that he’s down here.

He’s never really had a run alongside Dennis yet, which is frustrating. Played mostly with Stead who is a similar sort of forward.
