you’ve just saw the best out of a bang average squad just with a midfield who can do something.

Coughlan came in took the width and confidence out of the squad and left us with some extraordinarily poor players, especially in defence.

Clough came in when we were knocking around the relegation zone and he’s managed to get us a respectable position.

Yeah, given some more stability in defence and some decent forwards we’ve a chance, but it’s like what cambridge and nearly morecambe have proved this season, literally anyone can do it.

I like what clarke said and he’ll always get a good reception from the mansfield fans (those who remember him as a decent midfielder in the late 90s when i was a teenager) had i think he’ll do well.

I dare say mansfield and vale might have similar trajectories next season.

Both have massively under achieved but seem to have sorted the management out during this season at least... and meh who wants to get promoted when you can’t be there to celebrate it anyway...

If you can find someone better than Bowery up front I think there are definite reasons to be confident for Mansfield. Obviously it’s way too early for any judgements etc but as hard working as he is Bowery never looks like a prolific finisher. Did like the look of Frank Sinclairs lad though, he’s definitely got some potential.

that’s the issue, he tries hard and he’s a team player but a side going for promotion wouldn’t have him starting as he’s not good enough, nor is jamie reid who we’ve also had upfront. They’ll be mansfield fans who disagree but ultimately you’ve got to be to the point and they’ve not produced - the manger has already confirmed he’s well aware of this.

Congratulations to the promoted teams, thoroughly deserved to all 3.

Tranmere were very poor again and totally devoid of ideas against a Colchester team who can count themselves unlucky not to of taken all 3 points.

Not holding out much hope for us progressing in the play offs.

Congratulations to the promoted sides and best of luck in league one, and good luck to all the play off teams. Will be nervously looking to see if we lose Jay, Randall, Williams others in the summer. Always the way that the ones you want to keep go and vice versa when supporting Exeter. I suspect I am in a minority but will miss Masi’s attempts at injecting a bit of colour and naughtiness on here

Just crawled out from behind the sofa, christ!! too many games like that would put me in an early grave!
we started poorly and deservedly went behind to a well taken goal by the southend lad, that seemed to wake us up and we gradually played our way back into the game, scored a deserved equaliser from micky demetriou and then decided a point was enough and started to let southend dominate, at this point i retired to the back of the sofa, but we held on thanks to a fine penalty save by tom king and a lot of luck.
Congratulations to cheltenham you are worthy champions, also congrats to cambridge and bolton the league table does'nt lie you were the best 3 teams this season! now for us the lottery of the play off's good luck to the 4 of us.

I’m really looking forward to watching the playoffs now that we aren’t in them. I always think it’s harsh that someone who finishes 7th can go up at the expense of the team that finishes 4th but it’s a great spectacle. There have been some great playoff games over the years.

Funny when absolute wankers try and pretend it was just ‘banter’ but thankfully around 98-99% of posters can see right through idiots like that.

That will not happen with Keith Hill in charge of the 7th place club.

Finished the season with 18 wins, five behind anyone who had a chance of automatic promotion on the final day and only one more than Port Vale whose fans genuinely thought they were going to get relegated untill just the final month.

Only 6 of those have come in the second half of the season. When we got our 12th win, we had more wins than anyone else in the division, and almost everyone had played everyone else once.

Just glad this season's over and we can look forward to the next, though reading twitter not everyone is looking forward to it, the usual suspects are moaning that we need a new manager or squad overhaul or else we're getting relegated.

Good luck against Morecambe in the final if you get there. We will not be in it if Hill is in charge. If we do go through Adams needs sacking.
28 shots on target in the last 13 league games and 8 of them were in 2 games against Colchester away and Barrow home.
Score twice and we are screwed. Hill literally blamed everybody but himself for the garbage we have produced recently but his title is Manager so he is supposed to manage the team.
He couldn't manage to shit in his pants if he ate curried beans for 24 hours straight.

Will be interesting to see how the promoted clubs approach recruitment for next season. Given the start we had I don't particularly want a large turnover. But, was league 2 worse than normal this year? It was certainly a more even division.

Feel like we have players who know the system now and should probably look to build on that.

We're also out of embargo for the first window coming up. I'm sure we could get by without spending much though as the football world is still likely to be a bit of a mess at the lower levels.

For most of the table I'd argue it's been no worse than normal, it's just worse around the areas that matter, normally two or three teams would look uncatchable at the top by February or even earlier. The fact that we were at the top of the table at a time in the season where normally the title race is tightening up says it all. I'm sure Tranmere fans would point to the fact they were well in the race for automatic promotion until just a few weeks ago as a damning indictment, though the teams that got promoted did so deservedly, none of them had an easy time of it.

The overall strength of the league in terms of mid table clubs and bottom ones I’d say is better than say the previous season (Grimsby and Southend were actually rather competitive since turn of the new year for example). I would say the teams going up whilst they were the best three were not as dominant in so doing as say Swindon, Plymouth and Crewe were the last year but would say because of the strength in depth of the league it was probably harder this season too without even factoring in covid.

I don’t think any of the promoted clubs have anything really to fear in L1. No reason all of you couldn’t do what say Crewe have done this season.

6 wins in the second half of the season... even we managed more than that in the first half of the season (7) when we were awful. 6 wins in 23 after the start you had (even with Covid issues) is bizarre. At one point it looked like you were the only certainty for promotion.

I agree. It would be really really harsh. Incredibly tough on the 4th placed side for the team that ends up 7th to go up.

*cough*

OK, I know we don't count.

Orient are 57 miles away, Stevenage 84, Colchester 91 and Northampton 112 from Crawley. We will actually travel further this season if Sutton don't make it.

I'm actually hoping Sutton make it up just so we can have another local game.

I think the absence of fans and particularly away fans for those sides with decent travelling support has levelled up the League to an extent. Don't believe Rovers would have delivered such indifferent performances in the run-in for example had Prenton Park been packed. Though we did lose both home games in front of a crowd.

Walsall were probably the best side we played in the home game and they were flirting with relegation at one point. Cheltenham looked decent when beating us comprehensively, but find them hard to gauge as in both games Rovers being so bad contributed to the ease of their wins.

When we went up to L1, poor recruiting in the summer contributed to our downfall. However, the sides who went up with Lincoln and Franchise were both in the bottom half when the season was curtailed. There was and I suspect still is quite a gulf between L2 and L1
