Had we held on and won against Exeter the end of this game could’ve been nuts, you needing a point to go up and us needing a win to stay up, couple of minutes to go, it’s all square and we have all 11 players in your half to try and get the win.
Then you break on us with a 4 v 2 break but it gets messed up, then our 11 are all back in your half again for the next attack.
Rinse.
Repeat.
Ahh it could’ve been so exciting.
:(
I think I’d have had a coronary, let alone some of the Grimsby fans. Just far too much at stake!

Apparently none of the players who got injured against Bolton have trained all week so that's them out of Saturday, including CMG, which is a massive blow. We coped without them against Walsall, playing on the counter and notching up 26% of the possession. It will probably be a similar story this weekend but let's face it, a win is all that matters. A winning goal off Letheren's arse will do.

It’s a scenario i’d envisaged quite a few times in my head at work when I’d be having a slow night, one where we get an injury time pen to win it with Hurst and Doig running down the touchline to celebrate and then one where we went ahead around 85th minute, then we concede in the 89th and be gutted only for us to then get the winner in injury time again and go loopy whilst your players all dropped to their knees. (My job can really drag sometimes ;))
With half an hour to go at Exeter I really thought it was gonna come down to something similar to that. :gr:

Sounds horrific. Cambridge can have the points for me, not arsed in the slightest and I like them so I hope they go up along with Morecambe in the other auto spot.

Thank you SOC. It would be very much appreciated if you do let us have that 1 point we've been after for what seems like an eternity. Should you do that, I promise to have a word with this club employee I know and ask him if we could perhaps loan you a couple of players to help with this 'Let's piss this tinpot National League' campaign that you'll soon be embarking on

PS - Bradford and Crawley are also eligible to apply for this limited time offer (expires on 2.55pm Satdee). Give us a call if interested.

I know it’s not league 2, but the Derby v Sheff Wed game might be a bit like that on Saturday.

At least one of those will definitely be going down, could both go if Rotherham win. If it’s level with 10 mins to go could get pretty mental with both sides having to go balls to the wall and leave gaps all over the place.

Had a tenner on Bolton for the top 3 in mid February so fingers and toes crossed at my end

Yeah will be very interesting that one, I remember years ago Man City were playing Liverpool last day and it was 2-2 and City were keeping the ball and time wasting, not realising that they needed the win to stay up so the stupid tools ended up relegated.

Wouldn't worry too much about your injuries. You only need one goal of any sort on Saturday to win the game and a lot of Bradford supporters are rooting for you.

Serious question.....Have you aspirations on going up next season
I am not going to set the hms piss the league free just yet.......This team is a country mile better than the Bolton team that started last year. Santos,Sarcevic,Doyle, mj Williams and Kieran lee all signed up for next season.

If its just to support the underdog fair enough

Masi, Bradford and Morecambe have a strong historical connection and a lot of Bradfordians have a soft spot for Morecambe. Nothing against Cambridge or Bolton but I feel chuffed for their supporters who must be pinching themselves at what their club has achieved. Whether they go up or not, they have had a great season.

League 2 final day permutations, taken from local news site.

Champions

Cheltenham will be crowned champions if they win against Harrogate Town.

Cambridge will win the title thanks to their superior goal difference if they beat Grimsby Town and Cheltenham fail to beat Harrogate or lose.

Bolton will win the title if they beat Crawley Town, Cambridge fail to win and Cheltenham lose, though there would have to be a large goal swing involving the Robins and Wanderers for it to happen.

Automatic promotion

Cambridge and Bolton can both confirm their places in League One with victories.

Morecambe can take the place of either of these sides if one of them lose and the Shrimps were to beat Bradford City.

Bolton and Morecambe will both go up automatically with wins if Cambridge also lose.

Wanderers will maintain their place in the top three as long as they match whatever result Morecambe get. If the Shrimps win and Ian Evatt's side fail to beat Crawley or If the Shrimps draw and Wanderers lose, Derek Adams' men will leapfrog Bolton in the table.

If Cambridge draw and Bolton win, Morecambe would need to win by at least 12 goals to get into the top three on goal difference. in place of Mark Bonner's side

If Cambridge and Bolton both draw and Morecambe win, then Wanderers would be the side in the play-offs.

Play-offs

If Newport, Tranmere and Forest Green all win, they will be in the play-offs.

Newport and Tranmere can also both guarantee being in the play-offs with draws against Southend United and Colchester United respectively.

Salford City need to beat Leyton Orient and hope Forest Green fail to beat Oldham Athletic and Exeter City fail to beat Barrow to make the play-offs.

The Grecians can make the play-offs with a win if Forest Green fail to beat Oldham.

Exeter could also take the place of Tranmere if they and Forest Green both win and the Prenton Park side lose.

Newport could drop out of the play-offs with a loss, providing Tranmere pick up at least a point and both Forest Green and Exeter win.

Yes, i kind of agree. If the roles were reversed i would most likely be cheering Morecambe on myself.
Thats how you should do it.

Don't expect any favours from ourselves FGR & Exeter, virtually all of the team we pick tomorrow barring one or two won't be with us next season and have been on the beach for weeks.

Nerdford will beat us. I may make the afternoon more interesting for myself by doing my weekly ironing whilst streaming the game.

Can't remember anyone on here saying that. In fact 3 months ago, we were still near the relegation zone. Think you are confusing us with your own plentiful posts.

My head has been all over the place this week, some of the time I think we're going to collapse and lose something like 2-0, other times I think "what was I worrying about, we're going to stuff them".

Our position is full of contradictions - we're 2nd in the table for a reason, at home to bottom of the league (also there for a reason) but we've lost our last two while Grimsby are on a better run they've been most of the season (3 wins from 5).

We've come off a really good run against good sides (beat Newport, Forest Green, Morecambe and Orient over the last couple of months) but then we've just lost to Harrogate and Stevenage who both had nothing to play for.

26 out of 27 possible combinations of results for us, Bolton and Morecambe see us promoted - the only one where we don't go up is LWW - but I can't help feeling that it's the 1 in 27 which seems the most likely outcome.....

Honestly, I'm not bipolar and I wouldn't want to make light of anyone who does suffer from it but my emotions are all over the place. I just hope the team are getting their heads in gear better than I am.
Sums up my feelings, go from thinking we should win comfortably to that we have no chance. I'm not doubting Morecambe winning at all.

On your last line, Evatt sounds in a much better mindset and I assume your players will be too. I think the confidence/ arrogance is what can get you to professional level.

Missing out on promotion feels like it is so much worse than even losing a cup final. I don't think I can manage the playoffs if we blow this.

All the best for those teams with something to play for tomorrow! I’m beyond nervous and it really could go any way.

Those with nothing to play for: I’m strangely jealous of what must be a stress-free Friday evening. Maybe take it easy tomorrow? Looking squarely at you there, Crawley!

I’m the same. Not sure I’ll sleep that well tonight. With the start we had we should have been no where near. But if we don’t get it done when we were 4 clear with 2 to play then we will be kicking ourselves. I don’t fancy the playoffs if we miss out... but in January we would have bitten everyone’s hands off for a playoff place

I keep thinking about that. I’d be disappointed for sure, but if you’d told me in January we’d be in the playoffs I’d be over the moon. I think Salford, if they get there, will be the favourites though. It’s almost always the team that finishes the season with the greatest momentum that comes out on top.

So let’s just get the job done. And no flares/fireworks/fighting outside the stadium this time.

In all honesty if we are relying on Salford not winning we are done for. We just need to win and hope that FGR dont.
