Ha, nah I'm glad it helps. Glad that they actually seem to make a difference too as I was wondering if I was wasting my time...

I'm convinced it's turning draws into narrow wins. I tend to go behind a lot, especially in away games, and since I started doing the pitchside team talks we've started fighting back a lot more. It's brilliant.

5 points off the play-offs now, with seven games left. After we play Plymouth (2nd), the last six games are all against teams in the current bottom seven. Considering we were second bottom at Christmas, getting into the play-offs would be ridiculous.

7 games into my Bristol Rovers career and I've won 5, drawn 2. Really solid start, although to be fair my team should be higher up the league than it is anyway.

This is interesting. I've been using these on my latest save. Like I say, only 7 games in but I've managed to sneak a couple of tight 1-0 away wins which was rare on my previous games.

Smat, have you found any particular commands that seem to work well?

Just wot yellow said really. I tell them to 'concentrate' if I score in tight games, particularly away from home, and we've definitely cut back on conceding instant responses. 'Demand more' if we need a goal and 'Push forward' if we're desperate. Seems to do the trick.

(Recap: I'm Bolton in 2025/26 in League One). Finished 8th. Outstanding second half of the season but not enough to make the playoffs. Things are looking up tho! I noticed in about March time that I had what I *believe* is known as a "transfer budget" (of some 2.5 million pounds). No idea where that came from but hopefully it carries over to next season and I can finally spend a transfer fee.

There is a cloud on the horizon though. A consortium are in the process of a takeover and ex Leeds manager Chris Solly (sacked after taking them to League 2) attended a recent game. There are whispers that I will be ousted in favour of the former Elland Road buffoon. But I'm supremely confident. We were predicted a 17th placed finish and I led us to a glorious 8th, on the third lowest wage budget in the division. I am magnificent.

I am manager.

I am Smat.

Chris Solly as in the current Charlton player?! He must only be about 35 in your game

This new update has ruined the game for me. I'm considering about going back to FM 14.

Lost 5 of the first 6 league games of the new season, so that's good.

Portsmouth sacked me after 6 games because I played Chris Dagnell (see earlier update). I played Dagnell because I had injuries and it was either that, or play a DM up front...

Anyway, mid-December and I'm about to sign for Coventry. No money in the bank, bottom of L1 and £10k/week over the wage budget. Just my type of game!

Sounds similar to my situation at Bolton. Will be annoyed if you go up quicker than me.

Not seen that one before.

PS I've now gone 7 unbeaten and am up to midtable (for a couple of despairing minutes I thought I might be about to be sacked, after investing a whole 2-hour train journey on pre-season, so that's a relief). The two strikers I signed - a £200k 25-year-old from Stoke, with a distinguished Premier League record of 1 goal in 1 game, and a speedy 18-year-old from Boro - have mustered four goals between them in 13 games. My inside forward has also had 19 shots in the last two games without scoring, so at least I know what our problem is (we shit our pants in the oppo's box).

Finished 12th with PNE in my first Premier League season, had a pretty big clear out this summer so lots of business to be done.

Sold; Bashkim Kadrii to QPR for £6m, Junior Tallo to Boro for £2.5m, Mark O'Brien to Bolton for £1m & Luke Williams to Wigan for £500k

Chris Humphrey, Paul Gallagher, Scott Laird, Ross Wallace, Scott Wiseman, Daniel Johnson, Devante Cole, Will Hayhurst & Ben Davies all left on frees

Andy Robertson, Libor Kozak & Vasileios Pliatsikas all returning to their parent clubs.

My first eleven currently stands as:

Remy Riou
Loris Nery, Marian Sarr, Bailey Wright, Luke Garbutt
Alan Browne, Ouassim Bouy
Callum McManaman, Josh Brownhill, ???
???

Jonathan Bond, Shane O'Neill, Tom Clarke, Adnan Gurdiel, Lucas Deaux, Joe Garner, ???

Need to find a good, goal scoring target man for around £5m and a left winger for similar money.

I don't think I've ever had a keeper on the bench since the early stages of me playing FM due to never having a keeper get injured during the match.

That's happened to me at least once in this career. Don't know if I've had a player sent off in two and a bit seasons at Bolton yet tho. Very rare.

Yup, I've had a keeper injured before. Ended up losing 6-1.

I think what swung it for me was the willingness to work with a smaller transfer budget than the, er, £1k they offered me...

EDIT - And Portsmouth are 4th in L1 with my side. All the backroom staff stayed there, too.

So yeah. Laptop died. Needs a new hard drive. Half a season with Bristol Rovers down the shitter.

Well I'm not going to let it stop me. Getting straight back on the horse and all that.

Managed to get FM up and running on an old laptop. Seems to be running OK so far. Started unemployed again, but put a little extra experience on this time. I'd rather start managing in the football league, where the standard isn't too shit. Hoping to get some offers rolling in soon. Already turned down Newport - didn't feel like we had 'the spark'.

Just been offered two jobs, one with Cheltenham and one with Hamilton in the Scottish Prem. Both in relegation scraps mid-October. Which should I go for?

What rep did you choose?

And I agree Hamilton, potential to win trophies there.

I went for National coaching badge A and ex-professional with a regional reputation. Seemed reasonable for the level I wanted to manage at.

Taken the advice and gone with Hamilton, although haven't played any since accepting the job.

Managed to get through January last night.

Got the wage bill down from £46k/week to £33k/week, which gave me £4k to bring in players. Main area of concern was up front where I only had Jackson and Tudgay so brought a couple of strikers in as well as 3 CM's because I got rid of a couple of high earners and it was thin on the ground there anyway.

Beat top of the table away in my first game. Tending to win, lose, win lose, but it's got me up from 24th to 18th.

Also re-negotiated deals where I could (only two, mind) so a young lad on £1k/week(!) is down at £500 and Reda Johnson from £2.8k to £1.6k and getting rid of most of the stupid clauses and things like £600 appearance bonuses! Others aren't being quite to good and others will be released so I'm just going to have to sit tight on them.

Turns out my goalkeeper has been my fifth-choice free-kick taker all season. It's January.

(It got blocked by the wall and the rebound hit the bar).

DOUBLE WINNERS

We won the JPT with a 2-1 comeback win at Wembley over Colchester, and then secured promotion with a 4-1 win over relegated Nuneaton with three games left. The title was secured on the final day with a nervy 1-0 win over Wycombe, meaning Bristol Rovers had to settle for second place. We finished the season with 91 points, after losing 5 of our first 6 games.

Woooooooooooooo! I can look for jobs in Europe now... although I may be tempted to give the Championship a crack.
