Derby County have today announced their financial results for the 2014/15 season, reporting a record turnover with the club maintaining its position as one of the best supported teams in the country.



Underpinning the best-ever Championship turnover (in non-parachute payment years) of £21.5m was another record year of ticketing and commercial revenues, up by 29% and 20% respectively.



The financial year July 1 2014 to June 30 2015 saw Derby County have the highest season ticket holders of any club in the Football League and the highest average attendance for any team across the competition.



The Rams reported a loss of £10.1m for the year, compared to £7m in the previous year. This is attributed to a number of factors including a £2m reduction in TV revenue (prior year figures included broadcast fees for the playoffs and playoff final), a £5.4m increase in wages to £21.8m, a net player trading expenditure of £3.8m in the year and substantial investment in the Academy.



Academy and training facility expenditure rose to £7.5m during the year. £4.1m was spent on training facility development which included a new gym, swimming pool/hydrotherapy area, full size and five-a-side floodlit all-weather artificial pitches and a floodlit grass pitch with under soil heating which is a replica of iPro Stadium.



During the year, the company settled the £15m secured mortgage element of the loan from Co-operative Bank Plc, who released its security of a fixed and floating charge over the company’s undertaking and assets. The settlement of the secured mortgage loan was funded by investment from shareholders. The non-interest bearing unsecured loan of £3m from the bank remains in place.



This financial year was the third in which the Football League Financial Fair Play regulations were in force. The loss for FFP purposes was £5.6m and the financial results were approved by the league in December.

This figure is up £30m from the previous year, with the majority of that figure relating to financing our new stadium. I read somewhere that there was an initial agreement with the club when he first got involved that he wasn't allowed to commit above 20% of his net worth to the club. Seeing as he owns FCM in Denmark and was recently on the lookout for another European club to buy, he's made some serious dough from a business he founded a little over a decade ago! He set the company up in 2004 and I understand he got involved in Brentford in 2007, so it seems he hit the ground running!

In fairness I don't think their signings (which is where the stats come into play) have been too bad, Vibe's got 12 goals, Gray was brilliant, Judge was doing superb, and there's probably loads more. They've just been really unlucky with injuries, and stupidly sold their best players.

What's done for us this season is a really poor managerial appointment in the summer and awful luck with injuries. any team would struggle with the amount of injuries and just bad luck we've had this season.

We've been making the most of the stats model for four or five seasons, not just this last year or so - last year was play-offs, year before was promotion and year before that was play-offs. This is the first season in four that we've not been pushing for promotion, and our performance over the last two years has been off the back of the smallest turnover in the league by a long shot. Rumours were that we weren't going to pass FFP despite selling Gray, so I'd say the ol' stats system has been supporting us well. This year we botched the blend of experience in the side - our outrageous injury list forcing us to play a lot of players with no Championship experience - and barely any of them settled well. Hopefully nest year will be a little different.

Aside from Gray, Odubajo had his release clause met, whereas Tarkwoski refused to play, so not much we could have done there. The frustrating departures were Dallas and Toumani, but both knew they could earn double, if not triple, at Leeds. It's unfortunate being a small fish in a big pond, and being hamstrung by FFP, but we're still plugging away.
