And now we know why Tommy Wright turned us down, didn't offer him any backhanders :animatedf:

I'm so glad we didn't fuck Pemberton off for Wright, by all accounts we tried...
I heard we were looking to have 2 coaches under Johnson, one more alongside Pemberton, and that we're still looking for someone

Not sure what's wrong with that exactly, in isolation
Supposedly was willing to sign players from the firm. However then said 'give me a fucking player, a good player'.... so tbh does just sound like he's willing to sign players from them as long as they're good.... so like any manager.

I have a feeling we're looking at bigger names too, Pearson's suspension looking dodgy now and really.... who thought Vydra for £8m was a good idea  wonder how much of that went to Nige

This investigation will incriminate a number of people who were involved in our club over the past few years and us Rovers fans will be due an apology from the many who believe that we're only protesting because we're not in the Prem anymore.

Hopefully no-one else at our place obviously. Will be a bit of a blow to team morale but I reckon Bobby Hassell will step up to assistant manager. He and Heckingbottom were teammates here when players so might not be terrible in the long run.

Taken from the Telegraph.

Mr Price told him: “Listen Tommy, we need you to give us players from the clubs that you think we can get yeah? That don’t bring you into the firing line. As Pino says, the third party ownership.” Mr Pagliara asked about the Aberdeen striker Joe Nuttall, in whom he was interested.

He also suggested that the Far East firm should consider representing Alfie Mawson, a Barnsley defender (who later signed for Swansea City). “I’m telling you the biggest certainty is Mawson,” he said. “But you understand I cannot have anything to do with it.”

Mr Price suggested giving Mawson £100,000 to ditch his current agent and sign up with the Far East firm, saying: “I know that if I move Alfie Mawson to Newcastle I can go and get three or four hundred out of that, so if it costs a hundred grand to get another 300 grand on top, it’s worth doing.”

Mr Wright: “And then you’ve got them.”

Mr Price: “Correct, yeah. We’ll have hold over him, because we’ve given him a hundred grand and he will feel that he won’t ever be able to leave us because we’ve given him a hundred grand.”

Mr Wright: “Yeah yeah.”

Mr Price: “You might get two million out of him, three million out of him in his career, do you understand what I mean?”

Mr Price asked: “Is there any players in that team you think we should get, any other players apart from Mawson?”

Mr Wright replied: “[Conor] Hourihane… top champ. He guarantees you double figures in goals”. “Do you know who his agent is?” asked Mr Price, later adding: “We wanna start things rolling as quickly as we can. And obviously I’ll try that Conor kid, what’s his last name?”

Mr Wright replied: “I’ll text you the names. I’ll text you all the names.”

..............................................................................

Not looking good for Tommy Wright.

This sort of thing's probably happened in transfer deals up and down the country, I bet there's few people who won't be implicated in this in some way or another

No, we didn't.
We looked to bring in Wright to work alongside Pemberton.

Bet Steve Evans gets involved in all this when the names get littered about. Being a fraudulent fat c*** is his speciality.

The article says that he would essentially be getting paid to sign players exclusively from the "company" concerned, all unbeknownst to QPR whose money he would be spending. If that is the case then surely QPR can't stand by him despite what they said in the statement last night.

Well our club statement says nothing's been done wrong and that they won't be commenting further on the "non-story".

Which might be true but then again they don't tend to comment on all the court cases we lose either.

It actually doesn't go anywhere near that far though. When you look at the video, they're negotiating what kind of fee it might take for him to go out and do some talks in the far east for a few days in the international break, which there's absolutely nothing wrong with on it's own, managers do that kind of motivational, managerial speaking all the time.

If he was to then go and purchase players registered to this company that was also paying him in another capacity then yeah, that would be a conflict of interest and that would be a problem. But that bit's not even seriously discussed. Agent briefly throws out the idea of giving him a player, Hasselbaink, somewhat jokingly I thought, says: "Well I need a fucking player! As long as it's a good one!" And that's it. 2 seconds. There's nothing there to link it in any way to the talk about him doing some speeches (remember this is edited you don't know the context of the conversation, they could've been hours apart). There's no specifics, there's nothing set in motion, there's nothing at all about the idea of any exclusivity and there's absolutely no indication that if any eventual transfer did take place that Hasselbaink wouldn't keep QPR fully informed and above board with what's going on. And this meeting took place on Sep 7th, it doesn't affect any transfers that have already been made.

As far as I can see there's nothing to it at all, far less than even the Allardyce thing which in itself was debatable how much he really did wrong.

Tommy Wright's been a bad boy, and Cellino was filmed directly offering people a way around third party ownership rules (but everyone knew he was crooked anyway). Apart from that beyond all the florid headlines there's not actually been a great deal of substance to these reveals as of yet, though I'm sure there's more to come.

It is hard to know exactly what JFH has done. The video is heavily edited and you do not get the context of how it is said when you read it in the paper. Players have time off during internationals, as do coaches etc.

I do not think he has done much wrong, but at this stage it is only really guess work.

Villa supposedly have identified Bruce and Johnson as their top targets to replace RDM. Good luck with that

 Can't see Johnson leaving for Villa, all honesty I could see him leaving if the 'right' job came up, he left Barnsley for us just as they were back on the up and faith had been shown in him so not adverse to leaving. But Villa are a mess at the moment, something big needs to happen there to turn them around, Bruce would be an interesting one though.

While I could see Johnson going for the right job, it would have to be a far bigger difference than between us and Barnsley.

LJ got huge help from SL when he started his coaching course and genuinely loves the club, even if he isn't "one of our own".

I get the impression LJ is here for the long run.

Rowett and Wagner being "considered" as well reportedly, any of them would be stupid to leave.

Yeah, I don't get the impression LJ would apply for other jobs, but should the right team approach him it would be hard to say no.

Bar Benitez, I think Villa could take any club's manager in this league.

Don't think a manager currently in the top 6 would leave, you're swapping one end of the table for another, we're about a quarter of the way through managers have to start thinking their position is more than just hitting the ground running. Villa having not won in 9 means a big pressure to hit the ground running.

Pay cheque is the most important thing, first and foremost.

11 games is nothing, any manager worth their salt must be confident of getting that Villa squad in the top six, plus a guaranteed war chest in January.

Just taking Johnson as an example then, while a player he also had a side business of doing up properties and selling them, he's not short of money himself, plus given how we've started if some team tried luring him with a pay cheque I wouldn't be surprised for Lansdown to match what someone offered to keep him here.

I think you're a bit rose-tinted here, Villa are a huge, cash-rich club with massive appeal for any manager in this league.

Lee Johnson doesn't really strike me as the most loyal of managers either based on his previous moves.

That said, this is Villa and they will probably go for a 'name' rather than something sensible.
